Surfing internet is really time consuming. Every time i open my computer and open IE, hours pass by even before i notice it. So it's necessary for me to take some steps to control this. I found that setting an alarm clock is helpful. and what do you do? i want to hear your advice.

I don't need to watch my internet time if nothings happening on the day. I wouldn't worry about your internet time but if you are getting highly obese and seriously need to actually get off the computer I would simply unplug the cord, give it to someone you trust and whom will support you and forget about your computer. In other cases I find a great way of controlling your internet use is to increase your download limits (Thats if your worried about your download usage). All-on-all I wouldn't get too stressed about your usage, I personally spend most of my day on the net and my lifes turning out great! :D

Your suggestion is good for me. Actually I don't like to do something feeling like something is forcing me to do. I wouldn't worry about this if i didn't have so much things to do every day. and i think it more important to enjoy the real life we have been missing because of the computer. thanks for your responding.

You have the very quality i lack now. People always tell me to finish my job for the day and never leave it till tomorrow. I'm learning to better organise my staff and I'm confident I will make progress. thank u for your sharing:)

Great question and I too have thought of setting the alarm or simply, an egg timer. Besides the computer clock, on the lower right corner, I keep a clock within view. I have a set schedule and a busy life so not as much tme for being online as I used to. If I want to spend time on line, I have to get up how ever many hours or minutes earlier than usual to get in that time. How many times have you fallen asleep in front of the computer? With a lap top laying on the couch, I have have done this more times than I can count on one hand. Have I ever been late for an appointment because of being online? Almost but I am fairly well disciplined. I think ahead. I keep notes of things I have yet to do online and log off so to get going. If I have to get up early the next morning, I again, think ahead. I dislike being way too sleepy that I must force myself out of bed. Past lessons have taught me to look at the clock and log off before I get sleepy and get ready for bed. Some times, I just eliminate going online all together, sometimes for days and then one day I will make it a computer day, where I don't have to watch the clock. This way, I can get more done, take time to research or respond to emails. Rushing online is not always a good thing to do. Mistakes get made that later one may regret. So my advice is to think ahead, have a clock that is easily viewed from where you are sitting while on the computer. If there are things that need to be done, off line, make them the priority and the computer time, just for a second, that in reality is minutes or even an hour, if time allows. Know how much time you will need to get going, to get to where you need to go or do what you need to do to prepare for what needs to be done off line. Figure out what is the maximum time that can be allowed on line in the meantime. Know what the latest time is that you must log off and watch the clock, or set an alarm. When time is due just get off line and move on. After doing this a few times, you will enjoy the feeling of being ahead of your game and will be able to do it more easier. You will be able to guess when the time is near that you have set for yourself, before th alarm goes off. If you are done, just log off. A few extra minutes to do something else can always be used to your advantage. Once we get into this discipline we all will soon realize just how many minutes turn into hours. Easily done while online. If there is very limited time, think about the tasks that you want to accomplish online and make notes. Perhaps waiting until you get back from work, a function or whatever would be more beneficial as would those few minutes be to do something else than to go online when time is limited. It is all about discipline. Know your limit and stick to it. Make concessions when in actuality, it would better suit you and your schedule. The internet can be addicting for some. We must all realize this and take it for what it is worth. Practice discipline. If you have a computer day, log off half way in between and go for a brisk walk for ten minutes or so or go make and eat a nice lunch. This will keep the discipline in check and you will be happier that you did. I have sometimes spent so much time online and missed out on other things I wanted to do, only to feel somewhat disappointed in myself. So learn to be good to yourself. Take a time out. The internet isn't going anywhere and will be still there when you get back.

I don't do anything to control my online time.If i feel tired i will switch the computer off.To control the internet addiction i will go to another operating system which has no internet. There i will play games or listen to music.Mostly at the end of the month i am not online because i finish my download limit quickly.

well, i don't think i'm internet addicted anyway. sometimes i need to use internet and find me so easily distracted. Maybe i need to be clearer about what i want to do before i open IE and do directly what should be done.

There was a time when I thought that I had become addicted to surfing the internet, and I started getting worried about it, because I spent so much time online. The hours just passed by and I didn't even notice it. I had been used to sharing the internet with other people and when I suddenly had my own internet, I couldn't control it. I didn't use an alarmclock, but made a kind of timetable for myself, and I only allowed myaelf to use the internet when I had finished my other duties. Now I don't feel addicted to the internet any longer, I still spend a lot of time online, but I think that is okay as long as I don't neglect the other things that I have to do.

Currently, the internet has become the need of life. It is inherent to the activities each day. So the same as the other needs of life. I do not need to install an alarm for eating, bathing, travel, shopping, and more.. If the target is reached, the activity is completed. So I must have the TARGET and GOAL every activity.
