What will you do after retirement ?

This idea came to my mind just after I saw several oldies (retired people I suppose) in the church just this afternoon. I just wondered what will I do if I reach the age of sixty and above? Perhaps I will have so many things which I would like to do but my physical self won't be capable of doing due to old age. LOL. But definitely, I will still continue to make life more enjoyable. I will travel a lot, take care of my grandchildren, do some crafts, and surf the net (if it's still "in"). Anyway, I would like to know from my fellow mylotters this question: What will you do when you reach sixty? I am throwing this question to all, whether employed or not. For those who are already retired, what did you do during the first few days after collecting your retirement benefits?

I am past 60 and continue to work part time. I think it's important to stay active both physically and mentally. My day consists of getting on the internet, participating in myLot discussions, working on crafts and trying to keep up with the laundry. Four of our grandkids don't live near us so I don't get to see them on a regular basis. One little grandbaby is about 12 miles away so I do get to see her a few times a week. It's great. My husband is a little younger and he's talked about cutting back his work hours. He is so bright and has a great career but no hobbies. When he's here, he lays in bed and watches television. I've encouraged him to do something other that lay around. I'm not doing very well..lol I don't believe it's healthy to do nothing but watch television. He's not interested in using the computer at home since he does his share at work. I would definitely encourage anyone who is about to retire or is retired to keep using the mind and do as much physical activity as the body can handle.

That is if you've earned and save enough to reach that age. I guess that thing you should do now is start saving for your retirement and do not depend on the retirement pay that you will receive when you are retiring. That is just not enough to do those thing you wished.

well, Dorisday, I am less than 20 years away and I hope that I am not so old at 60 that I an't still be living a normal and active life. I used to think that 40 was old...until I got that age. Now it seems very young! When we retire, I would love for my husband to get a job as a minister or chaplain on a cruise ship. Perhaps I will work in the gift shop or something. We can travel around the world and see all the ports of call that I want to see now and we can't afford!

We work harder after retirement then we ever did before. We have also noticed that few people who retired with us that just wanted to play are still alive. My bet advice is to have a plan with goals which will challenge both your mind and your body. Enjoy

I suppose I have already retired as I shall not be doing work anymore.I keep busy by doing normal things like house work ,visiting friends and relaxing. It was strange at first I was like a fish out of water.I gradually got used to my new life after about eighteen months.I look after my grandchildren ,garden, diy ect my youngest son is fifteen and he looks after himself most of the time.We have quite a few holidays, each half term we go away in our caravan, then in the summer we go out for about three weeks ,life is slower but I do exercise three or four times a week, have lovely long bubble baths and it is lovely,It is the first time for thirty five years that I have time to myself ,to do what I want to do,it was at fifty the right age for me to retire before that it would have driven me around the bend.My husband is happy with the way we live so everything is great.I sometimes get fed up and bored, but I got fed up with work sometimes, everybody feels like that sometimes no matter whatever they do.It does not last long and get on with something or listen to music ,it is lovely.
