You absolutely must go and look at this car.
It's is awesome. It's called the Aptera. It looks like something the Jetsons would drive and it's really going to be available. It's going to cost between $25,000 to $45,000. Even though that's a lot of money to most of us here, it's an average price for a new vehicle in the States.
Here is a link to the article, complete with pictures.

Would you buy it if you could afford it? I would. It's cute and will save on gas.
Here is a link to more pictures. Nice eye candy.

No, I would not buy that car. Not only will it not haul a load of groceries or more than two people, recharging every hundred miles is definitely not a fun prospect. It will increase my electricity bills cause I have to keep plugged in all the time. What happens if a natural disaster comes and I am forced to evacuate? A 100 miles won't get me very far. I would have to ditch it on the side of the road. A complete waste of money. The top speed isn't even that great 80 mph won't appeal to those who like high performance vehicles. There really isn't a market for this. Families can't use it. Those who want to go more than a hundred miles without stopping for 4 hours at a time won't want it. Those who can afford it will go for faster cars. Electric is very very far away from becoming practical for the everyday.

It also costs more than the Toyota Prius. That's awfully expensive for a second car just for small errands. Not to mention that it will raise your electricity bills. You have to plug it in somewhere. Those batteries get expensive too. They only last about 3 years before being replaced. That's about a $5000 maintenance expense. Those batteries then get disposed of as hazardous waste which does have an environmental impact. That is a lot of batteries to replace.
All I am saying is while it might sound good to have an electric car, if you do the research you will realize that the electric car falls well short of the many expectations we currently expect from our regular vehicles, including safety standards. At this point, the only ones who can afford an electric car are those one who can already afford to pay for gas.

It's not meant for haling a lot of things. Nor is it meant for families. It's meant for getting fro point A to point B without burning a ton of fuel. I guess as a second car or for going out for a few quick errands it would be OK. 100 miles would get me everywhere. Nothing is far were I live. It's a small town and I rarely go out of town.

Those are adorable! Looks like a perfect car for city and in-town driving. I really liked the last picture, showing it in relation to a minivan. It gives a good idea of the size. What I really like is that there appears to be no back seat. That means the kids (my step daughter is a teenager) stay home...lol.

But no backseat also means only one dog can fit in the car with you. Your dog is small, but what about people with big dogs?

When my dog travels with me, she's usually on my lap, looking out the driver's side window. Bigger dogs would have to ride in the passenger seat. The end make special harnesses for dogs, don't they? Hubby (if there is one) will be disappointed though....he'll be having to find his own ride...lol.
Perhaps a slightly elongated version of the car will be made with cargo/pet room in behind the front seats. As long as the vehicle is still aerodynamic, it shouldn't cut down too much on the mileage.

Very different. Have you seen the car that has no steering wheel? It will be driven with a joystick. I would never be able to drive it. But I guess I won't have to worry because I would probably never be able to afford such a car.

It's not meant for families or people who live far from things. Were I live, I would be hard pressed to drive 100 in a week even if I drove downtown several times a day. I'm 2.5K from downtown. Nothing is more than 5K from one end of town to the other.

I'm a middle aged woman. I admit it. I can't afford that car or any car, but I would love it. It's so different looking.

hello thecatlady
oh my gosh! lol what an awesome looking different kind of a car. i would love to ride around in something like that in town. wouldn't you get the looks from everybody? lol
a vehicle like that would be a nice conversation piece. wonder if Aptera is going to make other colors of that new vehicle other than white? i would like to have either a really pretty red color one, or a beautiful blue color one. thanks so much for letting us all know around here at Mylot about the new electric vehicle that is coming out soon.
take care and have a beautiful day today!

I'd like fire engine red, or candy apple red. Anything other than white just to be different. I'd be really popular if I had such a car. LOL Silly, but hay I'm already well known as the cat and dog lady, and the lady with the weird car to it and everyone in town would know who I am.

I don't have time right now to read the article, but just from looking at the pics, I think it's rather goofy looking, and can't imagine anyone with any kind of mobility issues getting into it in a respectable manner.

It's unusual, but so cool. I don't know about people with slight mobility issues, but a wheel chair user couldn't use it.

That's something that I would definitely be interested in, if it's made legal in the United States. The German VW company has had a vehicle that gets 75 miles to the gallon of gasoline for almost five years now, but America won't allow them to import it because it would be too much competition for American companies.

I don't care where something is made as long as it saves me money.
