Near a fire station, Near a police station, Near a airport, bus station. etc?
We live near the airport, and a lot of times when a plane is taking off. It feels as if the plane is right in the next room sometimes. And a lot of them are flying so low, sometimes they can cause the building to shake.
What about where you live, is it noisy, quiet or indifferent?

I know what it's like to be in your situation. Once in my life from 1998 to late 2003, I worked and slept in an EMS station where call volume is high with an average of 13 to 15 emergency calls each day. The station don't have just ambulance ready to roll when needed but there's also fire trucks and search and rescue truck ready to augment when situation arise. Life in this situation sometimes left you with sleepless nights and empty stomach most of the times but despite of it, it is a deserving and very fulfilling job I've ever done. Because of it, I remained loyal and continue to be a star of life.

I live near a hospital, maybe a mile away. And I probably hear ambulances on average 3 times a night. With that we often get police sirens because of the nature of the calls that come in that require the ambulance. But it is better than where I lived as a child growing up. We lived near a small airport, and during the day we'd have to pause a good minute in conversation because of the noise overhead.

I know what you mean there, the pausing between conversations. Sometimes that still happens today.

I live in a city, near a bus stand and vegetable market. Also there are two huge main roads near our apartment. We have lots of traffic it takes some minute to cross the road in peak hours.Lots of air pollution irritates me very much.I like quiet places so i go to park near by sometimes and sit there for few hours.

We were just talking about this today as a family. Before our second child was born (she is now going on 11), we lived next to a train track in an apartment building. It was a fairly small town and the real estate agent said that he didn't think that two many trains went through there. Well..........he was wrong! About 50 trains a day wrong! We calculated that 2 trains went by at least every hour, making that approximately 50 trains a day. The entire building shook as they went through. The trains were also going quite fast. Fortunately, the whistle spots were on either side of our building so we were not treated to the full-blast noise of the whistle too. Just a bit off in the distance instead. When the baby was born, she learned to sleep through the whole thing!! We did too! In fact, there were tornadoes in the area one night (they did not hit our neighborhood) and we slept right through that. Tornadoes are supposed to sound like trains! Why would THAT wake us! LOL

LOL indeed. Haven't seen you around that much rocketj1, where have you been hiding, or all you working other sites that keep you away like some many others I keep reading or hearing about. I understand fully, as I have been away for the past week myself. I've been working on cashing out at Gather. It's so cool to be able to earn $25 in less than 2 weeks flat. When my wife and I first got married, we lived in an apartment complex with all of the freight trains passing through as well. We didn't live close enough to where it would shake the buildings, but those horns, were something fierce. The only problem was I could sleep through anything and my wife was a light sleeper. So the horns would wake her up, and she would sometimes wake me up, by shaking me. LoL. ~ Thanks for your response!

Where is noise may mean you are closer to social living facilities. That would be convenient for living, but noise is bad for peace. I live in downtown, but on 21 floor, so still remote from noise.
Noise is especially annoying during travel. After a long tiring day, you want to have a sound sleep, but the noise from KTV does not stop until past midnight, it is the worst thing I have had during travel.

Wow on the 21st floor, I would think that living up so high in the air the only thing that could potentially affect you would be airplanes or perhaps helicopters? But you mentioned KTV, I'm not sure what that is?

I live near a railroad track. You do not notice during the day. In the middle of the night I used to wake up and I could feel the house shaking from it. It is more of a feeling than a noise. I am more disturbed by cars with overly loud bass speakers.

I live quite near to the ambulance base. They all set off from there when there is a call for them. If they go south I don't hear them at all but if they come north then I do.
The busiest time for them is Saturday after midnight and there are always more calls then. I have got used to the sound now after living here for three years and if I am already asleep it doesn't wake me. If I am still awake though I can't help thinking that someone's relation is worse off than me

I have always lived near the airport, even though I lived in different cities. I live about 8 minutes from the airport, and planes are overhead all day long. Before I moved from where I used to live, it was a short quite street, if a truck or bus happened down the street, you knew they must be lost.
Now I live on a street that is a bus route, and trucks are up and down all day long, very noisy. I live right next door to a convenience store, so at night, their big lit up sign and spot lights are shining into my bedroom, not the best environment for sleeping.
After the world trade disaster, and planes were forbidden to fly for a couple of days, it was really strange, not hearing the noise of the planes.
