I having hp laptop and desk top computer. I found very difficult to shut down both of the system and they are taking too much of time to get shut down. Most of the time I used get one window as like " End Program ". This window shows different processes each and every time I try to shut down and without clicking on "End Now" button am not able to success. In both the systems, my OS is not genuine one and I have turned on the automatic update OFF and I used to update manually once in a week.( otherwise I will be getting software counterfeit warning message). What may be the reason. Please suggest some solution for the above

If you encountered the shut off delay since you install your OS, then it could be a faulty installation. Try getting a genuine one :-) Another factor is your RAM memory, it could be low or faulty. Try replacing it with new ones that are compatible with each other if they are more than one. Maybe you could specify what program is being turned off when you receive the 'End Program' prompt. It could be an executable file that is part of a software you have installed.

You can try removing the main application in which the exe file is a part of it. Be sure to have the original installer for that application in case you need to restore it. When you have uninstall the application, try restarting your PC and then observe the shut off process.

I suspect that you may also be infected by a malware or a virus too. I would suggest that you also check that because if your system files is infected then you might just as well reinstall or reformat your system to be sure that you can have a clean system to work with. Having updates is neccessary since Microsoft files are frequently being hacked and vulnerabilities are always present so update your system as often as you can. In my experience , you can auto update it but you have to choose only updates to the system and not install the WGA update as that will find your software as counterfeit.

Yes.I will not update when WGA update is available and for that I had set the option to "ask me when to install the updates" in the update settings. It seems only the windows is facing such kind of issues very often than the other OS like linux and also the chances of getting affected by the virus is very much less when compared to the windows. Thanks for your response and sorry for my delayed response.

If your computer system just hangs after the message "saving settings" this is a bug found in initial released copies of windows , The fix to this was released with service pack 2 from microsoft. Please give it a try and do let me know if it works well. take care.

I had installed the service pack 2 only. After many attempts to rectify that, I finally formatted the systems and I was able to shut down properly. But now, i am facing some more problem with one of my system. It is shutting down itself or restarting itself continuously, in contrast to the above issue.Computers are meant for creating the problems always, I think. Thanks for your response.

You probably need to get rid of those programs that start up automatically at startup. When they start up they also have to shut down. Also get rid of a lot of junk with CCleaner. It is free and will get rid of all those temporary files and stuff you do not need.

I used to clean the temporary files and cookies very often at least twice in a day as I used to surf the traffic exchange sites. After surfing them for about one hours, we are able to see the temporary files of size about 40 MB -50 MB and they are slowing down our system too much.Hence I will be removing them very often. Now I have limited the programs that were set to start while at the system start up.Sorry for my delayed reply and thanks for your response.

Hi, kumarpslv, regarding your situation, have you ever think of reinstall the os? I've the similar situation as you before, I back up the files, format the hard disk and reinstall the os. every problem gone. It may use up a whole day, but it makes my pc work faster. Happy myLotting !!

Taking the back up of our data while our system is affected with virus is always creating additional tasks as the virus programs are again affecting the system when the data is moved back after the installation of OS. It seems that it is better to store the important data in the external hard discs to prevent such problem. Thanks for your response and sorry for my delayed response.

What is your computer speed. What is the ram capacity of your computer. Sometimes when you run firefox heavily with many tabs and later close firefox, you will still see firefox running under processes even after closing firefox, this happens if you have less ram in your computer. So, at times when you shutdown computer as soon as you close firefox, this problem of delaying shutdown will occur. I had this problem before.

I think your computer may be infected by virus It might also happen if some of your files may be missing or corrupted. Clear all temporary files, cache memory, browser history, cookies, etc. It might also happen if some of your Softwares are not properly installed. Check if you are using 2 anti virus, this is also one of the reasons which makes your computer work slower. As far as security updates are concerned, if you have Windows XP then you just turn it off for some time.

The easiest thing to do sometimes is to just reformat using a windows installation disk. It's good to reformat every 6 months or so, to keep everything running smoothly. Plus, if it's going to take 20+ hours to install software and run fixes for this and that, it's generally not worth the time and will still not run as nicely afterwards as it would if you reinstall Windows. Just make sure to back up the important stuff that you want to keep.

I have reinstalled OS more than 20 times in a year. That's why I am hesitating to do again. I think this is the possible solution. Thanks a lot for your suggestion.
