MyLot users who rant and rave about a discussion topic they do not like. No-one is forced to read any discussion they do not like. They have a hysterical outburst about something they (thank goodness)have no control over. Who are they to try and control freedom of speech on an open forum. All I can say is they need to get a life. Your opinion?

Seems to me your doing the same thing...lol... just kidding...
But really, yes, It can get annoying. If ya dont like the topic, dont read it and dont respond simple as that, ya know?
Or maybe these people have nothing better to start a discussion about, in which case I suggest to them, to read up on things a bit, sit back and think about things...
It isnt hard to ignore a discussion, scroll past it! lol...not that hard...

I don't really let peoples rants bug me too much, because as you just stated, it is my right to ignore any discussion that I care to. I often answer these little tyrades, anyway, because if someone wants to rant about someting, I feel I can give it right back, and they most likely won't read my response anyway. That's what I don't understand about the ranting, though. If you start a discussion as a rant, it really just goes nowhere usually because there is not a discussion happening to begin with! I am not making a lot of sense, but then again, I'm just ranting. Have a great day!

I don't know what's wrong with those people either. When I see discussion topics I don't like, I simply close the window and move on. Even my friends (and I have almost a thousand of them on here) sometimes post things that I don't agree with. LOL I'm sure I do the same, otherwise, my discussions would have thousands of responses. That's just LIFE! People need to get over it. Thanks for posting this discussion.

You are so right. People need to get over it as there are many things that one can do than having a hissy fit over someone else's point of view.

Hi Whiteheather:
I have to agree with you on this. I myself have fallen victim to some who either don't like the discussion and pick me to pieces, or who come in on a discussion that follows another and chimes in in a negative way.
I myself attempt to respond to discussions that I have input for, and just delete the ones I have nothing to say about.
I do try to take it a little further by trying to comment in a positive manner. I don't see any reason for beating anyone up over a discussion.
Take care....

I agree with you 100%! Just yesterday I came a cross a political discussion in the Politics section of mylot where a person posted (along with a bunch of insults and bad names) that "political talk has no place on the internet"! Nobody was forcing that idiot to participate in that discussion and that idiot had no right to tell people what they can and cannot post here. Morons.

up to now i haven't give a bad rate to anyone here, only encourage people. while we are not living in vacuum, so we have to accept the reality as it is, and allow people to do what they like here. after all not all people are that critical or irrational.

My son says, "Being offended is a choice" and he is right. Another way to deal with it is to say "Build a bridge and get over it!" We do still have choice.

I just had to address this issue whiteheather. I don't often rant and rave about discussion topics...if I read something I don't care to respond to I DON'T, I move on. And no, everyone DOES have the right to freedom of speech and of their opinions. HOWEVER, it gets a bit tiring when posters here do nothing but basically the same kind of discussions about the same topic, such as the political discussions.
Before Obama was elected President, political discussions ran rampart here as well. One dear friend of mine, an obvious true blue Democrat bashed McCain....I ignored those discussions to respond to as well...it was B-O-R-I-N-G. So yes, members can voice their opinions and if they want to bash every single move our elected President is making, fine, no problem...I move on and don't respond...but it too gets boring as hell when EVERY single discussion deals with coming up with some dirt about Obama and bashing him...boring, boring, boring,....so you ask the question...and to quote you
"All I can say is they need to get a life".
Sorry, but maybe the people who have nothing better to do than do the same worn out bashing political discussions, whether Pro Obama or Against Obama need to get a life

Agreed! I don't answer what I don't want to, but then I'm only here for the friends and a bit of the money. I think those who want deeper discussions should write some. I think those who don't like fluff (me) should read something else (I do)
If you don't like what's on, turn the station. Don't like the song? Turn off the radio. Story not your style? Close the cover. Food too spicy? Pick a different restaurant next time.
Maybe they complain because there is nothing better to do... like start good discussion?

Heather-
Whenever I read them I have to wonder, and I do often comment to them "And isn't this post ironic because here you are doing the exact same thing as the people you are complaining about". Perhaps it costs me a negative hit by those who abuse the rating systems, but I feel that it is something that needs to be addressed. However, perhaps they need a lesson in what irony is.
I think the best thing you can do is simply avoid those types of discussions, continue posting what you do like, and enjoy the company you keep. As you pointed out, no one is here forcing people to read all of the posts, or even pay them any real attention.

I do get tired of rants. But there is probably one exception to my usual annoyance. Sometimes people I've known here for years go on a rant, but it's like the only time they've ever ranted. And it makes me take notice because it isn't something they normally do. The rants that annoy me the most are the ones where people are complaining about others, and they, themselves do the same thing they complained about!

In the main I agree whiteheather honey although I draw the line at people who are obviously trying to provoke or hurt the feelings or reputations of fellow mylotters in discussions! I do think that is above and beyond the freedom of speech and something has to be done about that type of situation! I have seen quite a few of these type of discussions since I returned!
In the main though I think it is very easy to just move on if you do not like a discussion and not answer it- as you say no-one is forcing us to answer something we don't like! xxx

whiteheather39,
MyLot members also complain when they do not have a response to their posted discussions. So, all of us rant when there is no response on what we have started, yet rant again when there are responses.
I think like it or not a hysterical outburst about something is also counted as a response and a freedom of speech exercised too. I think as long as it is not some unpleasant expletives, insults or name calling or bashing, I can accept and live with it. Besides, if it is really way wayward, I am sure the administrators will be on the offender in no time. I would not want to care who are they or even want to know as it is just a discussion and they are entitled to their prerogatives and I will get a life on my own and live to see who is right at the end of the day. We just do not need to point out that they are a big "I" at the end of the day because everyone else with eyes can see it and through it.
So, live and let live. It is definitely not the end of the world especially yours. Not for now.
Cheers. @TheCatLady (4691)

There are many discussions, such as soap operas that I think are as exiting as watching the grass grow. I leave them alone. Those who care to discuss such nonsense are free to do so. I choose to stay away.

o yeah..thats part of unsportive behaviour. had lots of experiences dealing with that kinda members, but in another networking sites. they do need to get a life.
for me, why do we have to interfere with others topics ? if u like it give a good response, and if u dont like it just leave it. its simple as that. we can argue if the reason is to discuss something so we can learn a new things, but not to control what can and cant say here.

You know? I'm just saying....
But here we are reading and responding because we get it, we understand.
