Are Electronic Cigarettes Bad for You???

Are e-cigs good for you??? - The FDA has now almost decided that the e-cigs are NOT good for smokers to use. Is the FDA confused or is there a real threat here???

http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/03/13/ecigarettes.smoking/index.html The e-cig sounded way too good to be true. I've been waiting for this as somebody always finds something wrong with EVERYTHING!!! It seems we had a discussion here on why smokers should switch over to the e-cig. Have you switched &, if yes, will you go back to regular cigarettes or do you find the FDA to be a useless waste of the taxpayer's money??? What are your feelings about the e-cig??? The FDA has been teetering on a ruling since last summer. Wonder what is taking them so long???

Hi LadyM this is a first I have never heard of them, but even though I smoke I wouldn't try them as I have epilepsy and it could easily trigger a seizure off..epilepsy is likened to an electrical brainstorm...so will stay with the normal cigs..hugs littleowl

They are made by Gamucci Ltd....based in London. The FDA allows melamine laced powdered milk into the country that kills us randomly. Then they want to ban something that an individual chooses for their own pleasure. I don't blame you, I wouldn't use em either if I was in your place!!!

I am unsure about the ecig Lady M and not sure whether it is harmful or not but if the only ingredient is nicotine then depending on the amount of nicotine they should be safe enough! I have been stopped for 10 weeks now and only have a few weeks at the lowest level of patches. I also have what we call an inhalator, which is a small white tube with a nicotine cylinder inside which you puff on. I didn't ever use it a lot and haven't used it at all for several weeks but I always have it with me and it was helpful at the most stressful times such as after meals! xxxx

I think the ecig is supposed to be similar to what you've been doing. From what little I've read, it is filled with pure Nicotine (which sounds dangerous) but you should just keep it with you to use in those stressful moments....NOT to smoke ALL the time!!! I don't know about where you live, but my little town has gone smokeless. Smokers are only allowed to smoke in their own home & not within 100 feet of the main door to any building/store. Most offices & government buildings are smoke free, so I can see these things taking off like wildfire & not being used as designed to be used!!! Sometimes, we humans are our own worse enemy!!!

It's the first time I'm reading about this.. I've been looking for solutions and ways to quit smoking. Thought going cold turkey might be a good idea but apparently, many says it's not. If anything, this e-ciggie ain't providing any of those, I don't think there should be any transition at all, unless it can help to reduce the urge of smoking. So far, this hasn't been sold in my region. I might purchase if there are already just for curiosity's sake..

I quit cold turkey & didn't have a problem with it at all!!! I had tried quitting before, but my heart wasn't in it so cold turkey did not work. However, once I really made up my mind that I had to quit for my own good, I threw them away & never looked back. It was a little difficult the first 2 days. After that I had NO problems!!! The e-cig is sold online so you may want to check into them & maybe even see if you can start your own line in your region.

Well they might or might not be bad for you but they might be better for you than real ones. If you have someone who has tried everything and still cannot give up. Patches do not work, prescription medicine does not work etc maybe these would actually help get the person off them. I know someone who has tried every product on the market and failed to quit, the best result was to reduce smoking. I have not heard of these so they are probably not available in Australia but maybe they will provide help to those people who cannot quit.

I just did some research and it appears that these are illegal in Australia which is probably why I have never heard of them before. A pity and it seems that it might help people who really struggle to break the habit. As an ex smoker I know that the habit is harder to break than the addiction to nicotine.

Hi LadyM, I've never had them and I don't think I will either as I am a smoker, I always say nothing like the real thing and I'm sure someone will find something wrong with them like radition or some sort. If I want to stop smoking then I will try so whats the use artifcial ones anyway. Tamara

Wow we don't have them here and this would be the first that I have heard of it. I can not believe that one, I wonder how the whole thing would work. I don't anything should be put into place to replace the old thing. I think if they are going to introduce new habits, why not introduce something that will be of benefit to the whole health system.
