Who's Up For a Road Trip? Huh? Huh?.....

Well it's official. The hubs has decided we are Manitoba bound. Don't get too excited, it's just a road trip. A ROAD TRIP! Well I'M excited, because it's been eons since I have the road under my butt flying out behind me at 110kms an hour! And believe me, in our little Toyota that road is only about 8 inches from the bottom of my a*s! So prepare to lose me for about 3 days starting mid-week. The appointments are made with the real estate agent for the properties we are going to see, and as we have to visit two separate areas of the province, it will be an overnighter in Manitoba and a night in the RV at the farm, on the way home. Last time we moved, we totally renovated our house with a fifties modern look. It's a fifties bungalow, so that was a no brainer.lol But THIS time, my heart is set on a turn of the century Victorian two story brick already outfitted with 2.5 baths, main floor laundry and refurbished original oak floors. So it will only require my particular period touches to fully restore it to it's former glory. My kind of house! AND it has an ENGLISH garden.............doing the happy dance! The town it's in is larger than where I am now, and I have already been offered a job as a real estate home stager (my forte) down there, so actually this move would be really good for my atrophying brain, and the hubs can keep working where he is. The house I want is only about 30 minutes from the U.S. border, so don't be surprised to see me sneaking into your yard some day, if we make this move. I'll be the one waving the Canadian flag! LOL The best part is, the hubs will have to do his own laundry when he goes back to work, as I won't have time! How about you? When was your last road trip? Where did you go? Who did you see? Would you go back? Why did you go? Was it fun or a twilight zone experience?.............yeah, you know it! MINE is going to be a twilight zone experience for sure!ROFL

Where is Manitoba located? I am in Wisconsin near Lake Michigan. Only a few hours from the boarder. Sounds like a nice Victorian Home. It will be a tad bit colder in Canada. Where are you now? That is great that you already have been offered a job. Good luck to you both, hope you find what you like in a home and in your possible new town you will be looking at. Look forward to hearing more when you get back. Hugs MaryLynn

Actually MaryLynn it would only be about 8 hours, which really isn't so bad. We can do that in a day if we don't get held up at the border! LOL

So very true. It takes 7 hours from Manitowoc, WI to Minneapolis, Minn.

It probably would be a good 10 or 12 hours maybe more, not sure. That is a cold spot, as Minnesota gets really cold in winter. Will be looking forward to your updating us on your findings, and trip. Hugs MaryLynn

You're moving again? But why? You've only been there 5 minutes. And aren't you the mayor? I thought you were building some old people's homes. Am I going mad? Have I missed whole chapters of events somehow? What does a real estate home stager do? I travel for 3 hours every time I go to see Dad- does that count?. My work as a volunteer driver also sees me in the same town delivering clients to the hospital for appointments then home again. It's 8 hours driving and I have a job tomorrow so I'm just about heading off to bed.

It sounds a perfect job for you...right up your (homemaker) alley. Can you resign as mayor? What happens there? I was only thinking on the way home today...one of the other members was saying it's a year since she began her weight loss program and I thought...wow, I've known some of these people for nearly 3 years already and we have shared some monumental life changes, we've shared in each others lives on this site.

We certainly have shared some big moments in each other's lives here, haven't we? Seems like just yesterday................ As for the mayor thing...they'll either go without one (!) or one of the old men will have to take up the gavel. I only got the job because no one else wanted it! LOL But I've been a good one, and put in place some great policies and annual 'events' for them to build on and carry on with, so I'm not disappointed... Oh and Tickle......I'm taking your roses! Those poor things must come from sturdy stock to survive so much, and I know they'll survive another move. They must have Australian genes. LOL

It does seem like just 5 minutes doesn't it? But it's actually been 2 and a half years.....and yes, you've missed whole chapters and you aren't going mad. The seniors homes are on hold because my son's coming home ill ate up our cash reserves and we're having a bit of a hard time recovering from that. But we still own the lots and will hold onto them, and eventually get those duplexes built as we gave our word, and will keep it. Actually this move will give us the cash we need to get the projects started and I've lined up other investment capital for further on in the project.... A home stager gets a house ready for sale. They arrange furniture and accessories and do some redecorating (painting, fabrics and such) so that the home looks fresh, clean, new and appeals to a wider base of buyers so that the sellers get top dollar for their property. It's an art and quite popular here and very lucrative......

I would love a road trip about now. If I could take off right now and have an entire week, I would head straight to the beach --Gulf Shores Alabama. I would pack lightly --maybe three outfits for 60 - 70 degree weather and a jacket. My laptop would go with me and a few books. I would reserve a one bedroom beachfront condo at Island Winds (it wouldn't matter if it was the east or west building). The units have a washer/dryer in them...the reason for my packing so light. I would wake around 5 AM every morning and watch the sunrise from my balcony and then write in my journal. I would go back to sleep until 8:30 or 9...get up and shower, go eat breakfast at Hazels and then head back to the condo and rent a beach chair and umbrella --with umbrella service. My books, a towel, sunglasses, and a bottle of water would be in my beach bag --sitting next to me in my rented chair. I would head in around 4:30 each day, shower to wash away the sand and head to the Shrimp Basket for dinner --sitting outside. Bed at 8:00 and start the whole thing over!

This is wonderful news, as I know you have been wanting to move to a more vibrant place where you have more people your age and new things to see, closer to town or in town. I wish you all the best in your hunt for a home. It sounds as though you have what you want down pat. It sounds wonderful as this is my favorite era of home deco and style. I'd be so glad to see your Canadian flag flying in my direction. The last road trip I made was with the hubby and most of the grandchildren. We went to my mothers about 250 miles away. I love going to her home. She has a beautiful home and she knows how to decorate beautifully. She now lives alone so I try to go as much as I can to see her. Of course my grandchildren love going to see her as well. My trip before that was two of my granddaughters flew with me to New Orleans to spend a week with the hubby. He was working there and the girls and I had a wonderful time visiting new restuarants and doing a lot of shopping. I was able to have the girls try new dishes as the cajuns have a unique way of cooking foods and the taste is oh so good.

yes, I do know. You are right there is so much devastation from the hurricane. All of the little boats and shanty houses on the waters are just gone or not livable anymore. It does look bad and I wonder where all of those people live now that lost their homes. I worry for them that they had nothing else to go to.

Erm Excuse me missy but I think you forgot to ask permission to be absent from the Lot for 3 whole days! Not sure how I feel about you moving but as you sound really happy about it I will stay positive and hope you get the house of your dreams. The job thing though - surely that will take you away from those of us who look forward to seeing you every day? xxxxxxx

My last road trip was to Savannah, GA, and I wanna go again!!! But, the little bird turd keeps finding some reason to not go - keeps talking about going to Singapore (SINGAPORE!!??!?!?!!) or anywhere but the USA. I have no desire to fly anywhere right now. I just want to drive somewhere. Somewhere with personality, somewhere with atmosphere, and somewhere with FABULOUS cuisine!! (Comfort food!) If you happen to go to Winnipeg, see if you can find the Wimbush twins for me. They were my neighbors back in 1965 in Venezuela and I haven't seen them since. Would love to know what they're up to, since "no good" seemed to be so easy for Jimmy. (Yeah - I know it'll be easy - just you see.) he he he

LOL, sorry jerz, won't be getting east of Brandon! But hey, if your little blue bird turd won't take you to Savannah, I will! I love that city and would give my eye teeth to go again.

HELLO! Do I feel a sense of future budding romance in the air? All that time together..... Overnight Hotel stay..... You just be sure to use protection young lady! And so close to the US border too! Just be sure to buy a big broom to keep those Americans under control. My last road trip was yesterday actually. I walked out to get a taxi to go to work across town and tripped over the kerb!

What?! You're moving again?? You just finished remodeling this house!! Wow!! You've got some serious guts sparks!! I hate moving because of all the work that's to be done. I know we will be moving ONE more time but not anytime soon though. Not with the economy the way it is right now but when things do get better and when we find our "perfect" place, we'll move no matter what the economy is!! lol But it has to be "PERFECT" because it'll be our last move for good! To answer your questions, the last move was from Arkansas to North Carolina when hubby retired from the Army FINALLY! NO absolutely NOT I will not go back! Didn't like the city experience at all or the subdivision living. We're country folks and even where we are now isn't country enough but we'll find that one place that we're looking for.... some day.

Oh we learn as we live, don't we? lol If only we could have the knowledge that we have now but when we were young, we wouldn't make these stupid mistakes that we make as we get older. Oh bla! Life goes on! But I've gotta tell you, I do envy you with that Victorian home!! Man! That's really nice!! I love Victorian styled things!! Especially homes and the clothing of that era.... I just might pay you a nice visit and then move in!! lol

Well well, so you're moving! Hmmm, it's an awfully hard thing to do, darlin, and you'd better watch out for your back when you start packing and DON'T carry anything! Let the hubs or the movers take care of everything, ok? But the house sounds wonderful...to have already found it even before you're ready to move is amazing! You know my heart is with you and that I'm wishing you all the happiness in the world. But as to my own road trip, the last one I took was about a month ago when I went to Rolla, about 2 hours away, to visit my mom and 2 sisters. It was a wonderful visit! I ended up being there an entire week! And that's terribly long for me to be gone, as I hate being away from home and my cats and hubs. Aside from going to Rolla, I don't make any road trips, to be honest with you. As I said, I'm such a homebody!!! I'd rather be home than anywhere. When I was young, my family traveled all over the place, with my father who was in the Air Force, and I had to constantly leave friends and schools and I think that's why I'm now such a complete homebody. I don't wanna travel. I really have no desire to do so. Except maybe to come and dance under your pines......OH!! I just realized I'll be dancing under different trees, Spark! But that's ok. Doesn't matter, as long as we're together, yes? Definitely yes. I love ya, darlin. Let us know when you get back! xxx

Darn it Sparks. I have saved all my pennies to get to Sak...Sakat....Sask...Sassy...Sexy Gwen, that's it. Sexy Gwen. Now your off to the frozen south. To sell houses! Humphh! Well it's been nice knowing you. I suppose that I'll have to eat all this Oxford marmalade that I've been hoarding for you myself. Still there will be a house for sale in Sexy Gwen now. Miss Marple will be spinning in her grave - I daren't tell Agatha. She was so looking forward to hours spent chatting the finer points of English shire murders. Anyone any idea what I can do with all these pennies? Oh, to answer your question. Just yesterday we went to see p1kelet at her loonieversity.

My hubs is big on road trips and some were short and some were long. The journey is the important thing. When we lived in Alberta (the province west of where we live now, which is right next to Manitoba), we used to take day trips into the mountains all the time. I miss the mountains..........that would be the Canadian Rockies.

It does not surprise me that you are going on yet another road trip. I know you like to travel. It does surprise me that you are looking at buying another house. You have not been in the current house very long. I remember how much looking it took for you to find it. Wow!! As for me, I will be moving soon also. I am going home to Arizona. I am looking forward to the sun and the warmth. No more snow for me. Yeah!!

This house has served us well for the time we've been in it. But I just can't go through another winter here like this one. The first winter wasn't so bad with Devon home (in spite of the reasons why), as he was company and my mind of course was not on the isolation of the place. But this past winter has been a cabin fever nightmare with the hubs away so much. I NEED to get back 'out there' and working at something that won't tax my back. Royal, I'm glad that you've made up your mind to go home to Arizona. Weather aside, the change will do you good after what you've been through and would continue to go through if you stay where you are. Please keep me updated on your move and all by email. You are always in my prayers...........

i've always been a fan of roadtrip but unfortunately, i don't have a car yet so i usually i depend on riding buses. instead, i'll just share the road trip i had with my dad when i was in dubai. he lives in al-ain. the states of dubai are al-ain, abu dhabi and dubai city and according to him, the three states are in a triangular form and if you have your own car, it's only an hour from one state to another. we had a day for those three. spent only 3-4 hours each. it was really fun. i hope to do it again someday, but with my own car soon i hope. you should see dubai, Miss Sparks. it's really great in there. =) but not through a road trip - jk! lol cheers!

Well to begn with I will miss you. I would think tat you will not be online near as much with the move and then the job. So I will miss you alot. I have come to love your spark of insanity as I relate pretty well. I spent the last 6 years or more traveling on the road alot going from one craft show to another and then home to build up stor=ck and do a couple of local shows only to get back out on the road to do it again. I alwys pr almost always booked 2 shows back to back on weekends and them=camped inbetween in my Beloved Redwoods. I miss it very much as traveling gets in your veigns and I wa no where near through with it just my body gave out. It became a very dangerous wy for me to make my living but I loved it. Gypse in me I would think. We all said there was a little n every one of us or why else would we do it. The house sounds absolutely wonderful.
