my best friend's son is in afghastan. has been there 3 weeks. yesterday she forwarded me a message he had put on facebook. we aren't on facebook but her daughter is & her son has gotten on there since he's been overseas. what i want to say how great is it that u can hear from your children & them in the service & overseas, it is wonderful to be able to keep in such close contact with them & them so far away. my son was in the navy years ago before the computer boom hit. he was in a sub & the only time i could hear from him was by phone & not at all when he was out ubder the water. it wasn't war time thak god but i did worry about him. i am so thankful that my friend can hear from her son on a regulat basis. of course it's wonderful for him to be able to hear from his wife & family to. if any of u have family over there it would be beneficial for y'akll to get on this site so u could here regularly. god bless our military that is so far from home.

My daughter's fiance is in Afghanistan at the moment, and he took a webcam with him so he could speak to my daughter on the computer every night. She says the reception isn't terribly brilliant, but it's sure better than in the good old days when men went to war and had to wait for letters, etc. He's lucky he's on a base in an Air Force compound, and not out fighting in the field - but it's a very frightening time, and we have lost two Australian soldiers within the past week. Godspeed all our boys and girls coming home soon!

The Military is any nation suffer so much from being away from home so this is a great way to keep in touch with family members. I don't hasve anyone in the Military but came from a Military family. So many relatives lost on the last two World Wars. when I see any military peole of tv - news - whatever -I say a prayer for them. They are all worthy of respect for what they are doing for their country.

hi antiquelady,
Sending off your children far away is something which is heart breaking and if you send to distant land that too where one day instead of your child his coffin can come. But no one sends their children away happily and it is something which has to be done in life so children are sent. I had to go away from parents because of my study and i know how much i miss them and i also know my mom miss me terribly. Mothers heart is as delicate as a rose and would always bleed for her kids. i really feel for them whose child has to go away.

agrim, until you are a parent u have no idea how it feels to know that your child is off in some godforsaken place risking his life for people that don't appreciate them being their to start with. i didn't like ur reference to the coffin, thought that was cold. i know your mom did miss u while u were off in school but there is a big difference in being off in school & being in afghanastan risking your life.

i am sorry if i offended you and yes but it is one of big fear of parents that the son who had gone fighting might not come back. correct me if it is not truth. So i said that i understand how much stress the mother must be in. And yes it is true that people dont like them there and unfortunately this has to happen in this part of world that some western power has to destroy the country then expect people to like the presence of their soldiers be it Korea, Nam, Afghanistan or Iraq where they destroyed it and found nothing of mass destruction. Please dont get me wrong but thats is what people think on this part of world.
