Missing Cell Phone

I have been very vocal in the past about how much I dislike cell phones, but I recently changed my outlook because I decided that I probably do need one since I live alone - in case of emergency. I followed up with an order for one from my phone company and was told to expect it to be delivered in five to seven days. Three weeks have gone by and I still do not have my phone, so I gave them a call today and learned that it had actually been delivered and signed for(company name) about a week ago. I really didn't need to hear this since I live alone and have not received anything from them. After discussing all of the ramifications of someone else being in possession of my cell phone I was assured that they would send another out and I should receive it in a couple of days. Now, this is not the first time something like this has happened to me, so I was wondering if any of you have had a similar experience.

Aww what a shame pal , I am glad to say no that has never happened to me , I have good neighbours and they are really good at taking in parcels for me , Even today I came home to a message through my letter box that a parcel had been left with my next door neighbour
Wee xx

Unfortunately, weemam, all of my neighbors are not so honest and helpful. The one that was very good about this sort of thing just moved away a few weeks ago. It's great that mummymo is the type of neighbor who looks out for you.

I havent tried ordering a cellphone but there seem to be several sites that are offering free cellphones if you subscibe to their service. I havent done so, so I dont know what their phones are like. They might be OK. I dont know if you would get them.

I thought this would be an excellent opportunity for me, snowy, because I don't want to get locked into a contract, and I do trust my phone company.

We have had things brought to us from our neighbors that were supposed to come directly to us. But, I can't say that we never received something aside from a Sunday newspaper that we agreed to subscribe to. We never received a single copy but did receive a bill for the paper. I called them to let them know that we would not be paying for a paper we didn't receive.

I used to look forward to getting my Sunday paper, Elusive, until they suddenly started disappearing before I could get to them. This led to my having to cancel my subscription, because even though they were willing to redeliver them I finally had enough. I think in this case the delivery person must have just dropped off the package leaving it available fro anyone who happened to pass by.

gee I hope you get it soon but for me, I still don't want a cellphone, as long as I have my house phone then I am happy. My boyfriend needs his cellphone for the office and if he falls somewhere in the middle of the street.

My experience when we had a huge and prolonged power outage last year has led me to change my way of thinking, winterose. I do have medical issues and might not be able to make it to a neighbor in an emergency, so that is why I decided to get the cell phone.

It has always been my experience, Aurone, that whenever I call my phone company for any reason they usually end up trying to sell me something, so I just decided to give it a try. I hope I won't live to regret it.

HMmm all sounds a bit fishy to me worldwise! I would say that they haven't actually gotten around to sending out your phone and were trying to cover their track by saying it had already been delivered. I doubt they would so readily agree to send you another if they had already sent one and did indeed have a signature for it! Hope this one arrives soon and you feel better having it! xxx

Keep a note of all that has happened including dates though worldwise and do not accept any liability they may choose to try and hand over to you for bills due to the handset that is missing. Also inform them if the handset doesn't arrive! I do so hope it does though as it is a very handy thing to have! xxx

I had also considered that, mummymo, and if I don't receive it within the next few days I plan to forget the whole matter.

For several months all kinds of deliveries to our house went astray. That was whether they were FEDEX or UPS. They would swear it was delivered, but we would never see it. I got to where I would, if I was expecting anything, give descriptions of the neighboring houses as well as an address, to help insure delivery.

I hope that solved your problem, GG. I'm reminded of something that happened quite a few years ago involving a theft ring right in the building I was then living in. The criminals were receiving parcels through the mail and getting someone else to sign for them.

No, I don't recall anything like that happening to me before. However, there was one time I had ordered a case for my husband's cell phone. As they stopped making this particular model of phone I had no choice but to order it online. The day it was supposed to arrive I saw a Fed Ex van in the vicinity on my way home from an errand. I figured it had to be the van that had our order with being out in the country and all, but when I got home it wasn't there and the van was no where in sight. So I got online right away and found the number for Fed Ex. I called up their facility and told them that my order was due that day, but it hadn't arrived. I think I even told them how the van passed up my house. Sure enough that was the van in question and the guy on the phone got him to turn around and head back my way. I went outside and waited. After a few minutes the van was back and the man apologized for not being able to find my house the first time around. Had I not bothered to call who knows if they would have delivered the order at all.
PS It's good that you finally decided to get a cell phone. It's handy to have in case of an emergency.
