Are you optimistic about the future of our economy?

I am usually not a pessimistic person. However the future of our economy is one area that I tend to see getting much worse before it ever gets better. I look around where I live and see business after business closing down. On the main street near our house atleast 4 businesses are gone now. Nobody is hiring. Companies are laying people off. One transport (trucking) business that a client of mine works for (I am a tax preparer) had a mandatory retirement for those with the company for 20+ years implemented in February and laid off 1500 workers in addition to those retiring and another 3000 in March. My client was nervous about his job being in jeopardy. I have seen so many people on unemplyment this year that is way more than I have ever seen before. Times are scary.

Times are scary but I think things will be fine but it will take a while. I feel the people who are responsible for this mess needs to be punished.

I think we passed scary about six months ago and are rapidly approaching terrifying. What angers me the most is that ALL of this was 100% predictable ten years ago. I have been pointing out the writing on the wall for over a decade. We sealed our own fate when we began outsourcing everything in the late 1990's in the name of "globalization". All that means is that we send our jobs and our cash out overseas globally. What does anyone do when there is nothing left? Ask the Japanese or the Germans after WWII. It took over 25 years for each country to dig iitself out of total destruction and poverty. It's surviveable, but not pleasant.

Times are scary, but where I am, although we do have things closing, they just open up new businesses. I think I live in an area will be okay.

It is really scary. I'm trying my best to stay optimistic and hopeful. Some days though it's hard to do.

Hey sweet! Yes, you are right! Times are very scary for everybody! It doesn't matter who you are and how long you have had your job anymore! It seems like no one is safe and no job is safe Seniority used to matter alot, but these days it doesn't mean anything. In fact, in some cases it means you have a better chance of losing your job quicker! I have seen the economy in bad shape before, but never this bad! I have seen the unemployment rate be high, but never like this! And it doesn't seem to be getting any better, only worse and there doesn't seem to be a bright spot at the end of the tunnel! So I wonder what is going to happen next?

It's not as bad here as it is elsewhere. Some places are hiring, sometimes quite a few people. But it is scary, cause you don't know how long these new jobs are going to last. And you're at the bottom of the list if you get one.

It sure is a mess out there and it will get worse before it gets better. But in the 70's-80's and 90's they have dealt with this and they were all bad in there own ways. It will not stay bad forever though.
