Playing games with Kids

I attended my great-nephew's first birthday party last weekend. There were a lot of bored 2-5 year old kids running around the tables trying to entertain themselves. It was then that I decided to start a game of Hokey Pokey with them. These kids loved it. When we were joined by a few of the parents, the kids especially enjoyed it. Want to see your kids faces light up, play a game with them.

Ask anyone what they remember about their childhood and they will remember things that their parents did with them and not what was bought them. I always played games with my kids and now play games with my grandkids. It was one of the reasons I wanted to have my kids early(20's), so I would still be young enough to do stuff with them and now I'm still young enough to do stuff with my grandchildren. When I worked as a latchkey supervisor it amazed me that most of the kids didn't know some very basice games like hopscotch, high water-low water (jumprope game), teddy bear, teddy bear, another jumproper game and even four square. I didn't just watch the kids but played games with them and thaught them some from my childhood.

The kids really get so much more out of playing a game when there is an adult interacting with them.

I love the Hokey Pokey game myself..lol! That's so true, kids really enjoy it if you involve all of them in a good game, they not only interact with each other better and they feel good about participating. It also helps breaks the ice between kids who are meeting for the first time and are shy. I love kids and anything they do simply fascinates me.

It's a hoot to play games with kids especially when we are big kids ourselves. I like to act goofy with my grandkids and we have a blast. I always had fun with my kids too. It's a great life!

I do not know how to play the game of hokey pokey but I love to play games with kids. Kids are so cute and whatever they do is cute. I never have lots of cousin brother and cousin nephews who are really young and I just love playing with them. I act like a kid when I am with them. They are so adorable but sometimes they can really annoy us but it's ok with me.

I love playing with the kids. It can be such fun. I play with my grandkids all the time. I have such a bond with them, the teenagers still come over and hang out with gramma. They all like to come over and spend the night. They are my old age insurance, they all tell me "don't worry gramma I will take care of you when you are old".

yes, playing games with kids is always a great idea, & with 4 & 5 year olds you can turn everyday things into games they really enjoy, like the toy clean up game lol.

You are so right. What they really crave, is companionship with their loved ones.

Yep that is the way to go. Kids that age need to be entertained. You can't really expect them to entertain themselves until they are around 6 or 7. I remember doing the Hokey Pokey on Rollar Skates :) That was always fun!

Absolutely, I think it is Milton-Bradley that had the commercial for family game night and people should try it. My son was a teenager when we started it and he loved it, it was not like we never saw each other, I was a single Mom and I was home with him every night, if I went out, he went with me. One time, I actually played hockey in a father-son hockey game, he was embarassed when I fell ( I had never worn hockey skates before) but he was glad that I did it, being the only Mom who did this made him feel special. I could not keep up with the kids (they were 8 or 9) but I did have fun and I actually scored. It is the little things that make a difference and make a kid happy.

My daughter absolutely loves to play games. Imean any kind of game at all. I think she really likes to do that because it's usually something the whole family does together and she likes to spend the quality time.
