late night tv for us night owls

i wonder instead of nothing ever being on to watch why dont they put some kinda shows on that wasnt doing so well during primetime (and most of them because they run them all up against each other so much) why not try them in a late night slot where people can enjoy them like ...people like me who are up until the next morning? instead of all that paid advertising all night long or repeats of repeats and most of it over 10 yrs old?
