Posting smilies ......... is there any harm?

Dear Mylotters,Just before this discussion started I was commenting on another discussion and at the end of it wanted to post a smiley. But the site didn't allow me to do so. It says I need to reach a rank of 200. First of all what is a rank of 200? Not allowing new mylotters to copy and paste is a good thing because that will only keep time-tested good mylotters on the forum who knows their responsibility and would not spam the entire area. But I wonder what is the rationale behind not allowing new comers to post smileys? I thought smileys make the post more interesting and easily convey the feeling behind the writer ........... what would you say? Any specific reason why newcomers are not allowed to post smileys or would it be better if this rule is taken away?

welcome to mylot its the same rationale for the smilies as it is with copy/paste your rank is the number next to your username in the ()s If we let newbies use smilies then they might be tempted to respond with ONLY smilies which would not be a "quality" response They need to learn how to post quality before they can be given special priveledges

Right there has to be a rationale .......... this may be one of them. Just wanted to know did you ever use all smileys for the whole post?

Hi and welcome to myLot abhichat! Think of it as some sort of 'reward'. The longer you are here and the more you are active you will have certain privileges not avalable for new users. - when you see 100 by your name you will get a star. - when you see 200 you will be able to use the smilies. - when you see 500 you will be able to copy/paste. This should spur you on rather than hindering you don't you think? Be sure to read the Guidelines and avoid discussions which violate the rules so as not to lose posts and earnings. Have fun Lotting!

Oh that's quite an info. Thanks. I will work towards the reward and will eventually get it. And ya maybe I need to take a closer look at the guidelines. Anyway I just wanted to know what experienced people think about it ......... no intention of violating rules and getting a wack ......... this is an interesting and enjoyable site so want to keep happily mylotting.

I really don't see any reason that new members can't post smilies. I know that before I reached the 200 mark, I couldn't wait until I did so that I could use smilies. I literally use them in everything that I do (emails, instant messaging, text messaging, and of course myLot). I guess it just gives members something to aim for and keep them active if they wish to use the smilies. If you are active each day, you'll reach the 200 level in no time...Have Fun!!!

Hello abhichat1980! There's no harm in using those smilies. In fact, using them will help our earnings. In every posts we are only aloud to use 3 smilies at a time. Maybe you use more than three that's why you receive a red letter warning. It happened to me too.

Like the others have said there is no harm for a newbie to post a smiley, especially since the limit is 3 anyway. However, it then becomes a reward to look forward to. I just recently got mine and felt very proud. The same way I felt when I got my first best response and my Star rating of 9. I am now looking forward to my first payment and my copy/paste reward. Welcome to Mylot, keep posting to get your smiley privilege!

I never heard about limited to 3 smilies... Well I never tried to use more then 3 anyway.. I'll try now just to see if I can... Yeah it doesn't work...hmmm, I didn't want to use the anyway... [Response contains more than the maximum allowed MyLotCode Emotes.Max is 3] Oh and by the way you can copy and paste if you do it little by little lol like 3 words at a time, lots of work...

Just like most mylotters here said, your rank should be 200 or meaning you must have posted 200 on discussions before you are entitled to use a smiley. About Mylots reasons why not newbie should be entitled, well i don't really know, some say that some abused using smileys as the comment, meaning no other words to say but smileys, so they limit us to use only three smileys. If you reach the post 200, then check mylot code and select which smiley you want to use from your discussion. This may not raise your earnings, but only will add spice to your statement when participating in a discussion.

I think there is nothing wrong with smilies in posts. However, there are people on mySpace and Facebook that over-use them, and it annoys everyone!
