Network Neutrality or "Net Neutrality" in short is the guiding principle that preserves the free and open Internet. Put simply, Net Neutrality means no discrimination. Net Neutrality prevents Internet providers from blocking, speeding up or slowing down Web content based on its source, ownership or destination. Net Neutrality is the reason why the Internet has driven economic innovation, democratic participation, and free speech online. It protects the consumer's right to use any equipment, content, application or service on a non-discriminatory basis without interference from the network provider. With Net Neutrality, the network's only job is to move data -- not choose which data to privilege with higher quality service. Who wants to get rid of Net Neutrality? The nation's largest telephone and cable companies -- including AT&T, Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner -- want to be Internet gatekeepers, deciding which Web sites go fast or slow and which won't load at all. They want to tax content providers to guarantee speedy delivery of their data. They want to discriminate in favor of their own search engines, Internet phone services, and streaming video -- while slowing down or blocking their competitors. These companies have a new vision for the Internet. Instead of an even playing field, they want to reserve express lanes for their own content and services -- or those from big corporations that can afford the steep tolls -- and leave the rest of us on a winding dirt road. The big phone and cable companies are spending hundreds of millions of dollars lobbying Congress and the Federal Communications Commission to gut Net Neutrality, putting the future of the Internet at risk. They say they will implement this in 2012? what will happen to us if this will happen? Hope you share your opinions here, hope we can still save the Internet.

Hopfuly these things won't happen but it could. The net should stay free of any kind of censhorship. Net Neutarlity is simply too valuable to be thow away or be subect to a charge of any kind. The freedon of the net has given people in other coutires a voice that they would not otherwise have. Such as disscusion on human rights or other pollitical issues. I am sure that if the telecomucations indusry starts to inpose charges or other condishions it will make this type of activity much more harder becase persons in many counties that are in the develping world can't afford that type of tax. It would be left up to those persons who could afford it. As for for the rest of what the indtrsty want to do, I would so NO. keep the net working the way it is.

I think with increase in bandwidth every day, companies can afford to have an express lane in it. I think this way it iwll okay that if anyone wants to go for those websites, they have to pay otherwise you can use internet free paths at the a fair price.

Yes, very well said. They have to give it for freedom as like for speech. But one Mylotter said that it has been there already in US. I wonder if Asian countries are now having this kind of deal with other telecommunication companies. Because what i know, this is still part of business and they wanted to earn more so they will utilize everything to make this possible, but i am sure your President is supporting Net Neutrality.

Yes I think thePresident Obama does suport net neutrality. but for us here the added cost to consmmer will make the internet more expnsive to use. I getting the internet here cost enough allready and we should not have to pay more.

i thought i was already having that problem as it seems our internet providers at times do not make the speed as fast as they told us, plus, there are sites we have trouble accessing. i may be missing the point here though.

No you're not, but i think you need to be aware of the sites you cannot logged in and ask your internet provider about this. But i am not sure when this dooms day will come to us if Government will allow.

A loss of network neutrality will totally destroy the Internet. Already in the United States, the Federal Communications Commission (which thinks it has authority over ISPs) is preparing to allow Comcast and Verizon to charge for bandwidth and control the speed of access, and content that wis available by anyone that uses their network, depending on how much you pay. As you mention, they also want to charge website owners to allow their content to be accessed. The Internet will become a thing only for the wealthy and the corporations. The coming Internet-II will also destroy any neutrality and availability of sites that you can access today.

Oh my, it is really a bad news, i think if it's there now, it will crawl to Asian countries too. I think there is no more solution, big companies will earn a lot from this scheme.

Actually this is a nightmare if it happens, imagine that internet will be like a cable channel, you can only open a site, if you subscribe into it.
