Obama wants to get rid of pickup trucks, and SUVs. Once again, he thinks the United States is a Banana Republic-Of course, it doesn't ever snow here, or the roads don't get icy!! I'd like to see him try to drive one of those golf carts on one of the highways where I live, in January, on black ice. He's lived in Chicago, he should know better! Yeesh! I guess the freedom of buying whatever vehicle you want is going away, too.

Nothing like going after the profitable vehicles made in the US. Once again, force of government is more important to The Big BO and his BObots than freedom of choice.

Those golf carts can't haul horse trailers so they're not going to be too popular down here in cattle country. Can't go into the fields when you're hunting hog either...unless they're going to come in 4 wheel drive.

Where I live we rely on four wheel drive suv's and trucks. Our roads get really bad, so we need those vehicles to get around in. I really don't think that he should be forcing them to stop making trucks and suv's. Maybe he should tell them to find a way to make them more fuel efficient instead. If they were more fuel efficient more people would buy them. I prefer having a large vehicle. I don't like little mini- cars. They are good to get around in the summer, but the winter no way. And honestly I don't feel safe in smaller cars. I feel that a larger truck or suv has a better survival chance then being in a little car.

We will buy foreign trucks and SUVs. There is not way that people in cold and rugged climates or people that work outdoors and need to haul things are going to use little can-opener type cars! I can't wait till April 15th, there will be tea parties all over the place and I wonder if the media will cover them? I'm going to try to attend one near me.

Forcing GM to produce a certain line of vehicles and adding more regulation is a sure fire way to destroy the company. Bam needs to let GM run GM and he needs to do what he does best......community organize.

I hadn't heard this but that makes no sense! Farmers need trucks, America needs farmers! And people who prefer trucks should be able to buy them , same for SUVS. I am afraid we are really getting into a govt controlled everything at the way it has already started off!! Trucks also hold value longer than a car does, so why do away with them?? Just don't understand alot of his reasoning.

I live in Canada in the prairies and I am sure that down in the States, farmers who live in Minnesota, North Dakota, and Montana where it does get cold and snows and where there are a lot of cattle ranches, etc. not to mention those down in Texas and New Mexico and all those states where there is a lot of farming activity feel the same way. So we do need pickup trucks. Also with the SUVS, there are a lot who have large families and SUVS and minivans are good for taking along the family as well as for those who have their own businesses and those who want to take the large items home instead of paying for delivery. Now I suppose he wants you all to buy those granny shopping carts and carry that new stove or computer in that now.

From what I have read I have seen that he is basically saying to GM do not put all your apples in one basket. To have a variety of vehicles. Since most of their vehicles are trucks and suv's sitting around everywhere causing alot in debt. I read this in the New York Times. You can bet that many americans have become very frugal and many will not go back to the spending frenzy those who will get trucks and suvs will be the ones that need them verses wanting one for show. It just makes the consumer think twice once we get through this recession/depression

NO ONE on Long Island needs one unless they go to the beach to do off road. All of our roads are paved, they are cleared as soon as they getsnow or ice. All they do is waste gas and hog the roads. I can drive as well if ot better in my minivan, never had an accident.

The problem is MOST OF US do not live on Long Island! Much of America is still rugged and much of America still gets REAL winter, with snowfall measurable in feet, not inches. There are other reasons why people need trucks too, just read the other posts. Some folks need to haul things, you can't do that in a little golf cart. And I would like to see you get onto the LIE and live to tell about it in one of those things! They are not going to want you to keep your minivan either, those are JUST AS BIG as many SUVs and it's actually BIGGER than my Jeep, and they aren't any more fuel efficient that other trucks and vans! Just becasue YOU live on Long Island which is pretty flat, doesn't get a lot of bad weather, and has an excellent infrastructure to maintain the roads even in bad weather, doesn't mean that everyone else does.

Hi Fortunata...This is interesting because I heard that those are the lines which were actually profitable for GM. They were probably profitable because that's what many people want - something to handle in the snow and ice. And the thing is it doesn't matter to him since I'm sure the government fleet which services the White House already has SUVs. After all it never snows in D.C.?

Do you have a link for this, so I can properly address my outrage to the clowns that supposedly represent me in Congress and the Senate? What a stupid SOB if he really thinks Americans don't need trucks and four wheel drive, I guess if you ride around chauffeur driven you forget that NORMAL people have to freaking drive in the snow and ice and mud. Damn it all to freaking hell, I get more angry by the minute at what this fascist commie agent of jihad is doing to us! FUUUUUnCK!

I think every dicision he made, he has his own reasons, and also must have people there to support him. Sometimes, he did not make the dicision, but his people do. If the decision will do good to us, we are welcome of that, but if not, why we have to suffer from it?
