How many times do you get up at night to pee, if ever you do? What do you think is causing it?

I agree that, for some, it really depends. If I may I ask, though, where did you read that stress can cause peeing at night? Thanks a lot and Happy myLotting!

AOL.com had an article about stress some time ago. In the article it said that for some people frequent urination can be cause by stress or a sign that you are stressed.

Okay, I'll explain this as clearly as I can, for your sake. One, we go to bed to sleep. Two, some of us get up at night to pee. Three, if you're one of the "some of us," how many times do you get up at night to pee? Four, what do you think causes it? Clear enough?

None:) I will go to the toilet before I go to sleep. And after that, I don't have to get up at night to pee. Perhaps you have drunk so much water so that you will go to the toilet at night. Try to avoid it as it will have an effect on your sleeping. I love China

youless, that's really a very good suggestion, especially to those who may have to grapple with this problem on a nightly basis. Stay active and Happy myLotting!

I don't usually have to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. Every once in a while I have to go. Although, I do wish that when it did happen it wasn't when I just to be getting up in less than 10 minutes. That's a pain in the butt.

Just once if at all. I got in to the habbit with having 3 kids in the past 3 yrs you get used to peeing in the middle of the night. They say it's no big deal unless you exceed 8x in a 24hr period of time.

3SnuggleBunnies, I guess it just goes with the territory. Peeing 8 or more times a night sure seems a big deal and perhaps would already require immediate medical attention. Thanks for your sharing and Happy myLotting!

Not 8 times night, exceeding 8 times in 24 hours (a full day including night)

Hahahah ... it's the first time I hear a question like this (and I find it interesting) cause i never thought of it. For me it depends because sometimes i drink a lot of water before going to bed ... so this day i may get up 2 o 3 times ...the good thing is that i fall asleep easily :)

I'm really glad that you find the topic interesting, lustig. I feel that what you're experiencing seems to be normal, as you "you drink a lot of water before going to bed." It's also nice that you can catch sleep easily, since any interruption (i.e. going up to pee) wouldn't really matter much. Celebrate today and Happy myLotting!

I usually get up 1 rarely 2 times. And many times it's cause I did drink alot of water in the evening. I too, can get up, and come back to bed and fall back to sleep very easily so it's not that big a deal for me. I get an annual doctor's check up so I know I'm healthy. I guess if it's bothering you or if you can't get back to sleep then you might want to ask your doctor about it. Also I do know that Caffeine makes one have to pee more so maybe too much is causing it and it can also make it hard to go to sleep as it's a stimulant. There are medical conditions called overactive bladder but that is usually in older people and again a doctor would be able to help with that as there are medications for it. My nephew wet the bed til he was about 10 and they gave him a medicine for it and it made a huge difference. Luckily he outgrew it.

I don't get up in the night at all. But I know that with men, it can be a sign of an enlarged prostate and they should talk to their doctor about it.

I get up once in the middle of the night to take a pee. There are also times that I don't get up if I pee before going to sleep. I think its because we drink a lot of liquids during the day and we don't really urinate all of the liquids that we drink so we need to get up at night to pee.

I usually get up at least once a night to urinate. I have had this problem since I first became pregnant 19 years ago. Ever since having children it seems like my bladder has shrunk! I really never seemed to have to get up in the middle of the night before I got pregnant with that first child. And now that I have had 4 there is usually not a night that passes by that I don't have to get up at least once. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

I usually get up and pee at night only once. I tend to sleep straight unless my baby is awake then I wake up also. I think the reason why we pee at night is that our body still works and removes the excess water in our body together with all the elements our body does not need and should be rid off. We do not sweat too much at night and so peeing is one way to get rid of our body wastes.

Wow, lucky you. At least, you get to "sleep straight" at night, unless, as you've said, your baby wakes up. Do you get to easily catch sleep again, though, after your baby wakes you up? Yeah, I guess that may really be one of the possible explanations why we pee at night. Thanks for your contributing to this discussion and Happy myLotting, Yori!

Are you sure, though, that the only reason why you frequently get up at night to pee is that you consume water all day long? If you are, that's well and good. If not, on the other hand, I feel it will be best if you consult your family doctor about it, just to make sure. :) Stay positive and Happy myLotting, kimandjoe!

I seldom get up to pee at night.I really dont want to get out of my warm bed.So I seldom drink anything before I go to bed.You seem to drink a lot before sleep. Are you bothered by having to pee again and again?

Well if I'm pregnant I have to get up so much to use the bathroom. Oh it's so annoying but when I'm not pregnant I can get up once or not at all. Actually sometimes if I need all the help I can getting up in the morning I will intentionally not go to the bathroom before I go to sleep so I will have a built in alarm to help me get up in the morning.

there are different medical reasons that can cause urination at night, or it can be something as simple as having and not emptying a full bladder before you go to bed. i don't usually get up at night to go to the bathroom, but every once in a while i do. if i do, it's usually just one time that night.

Since I had radiation for prostate cancer a few years ago, I have to pee every hour and a half on the average at night. sometimes this mess up my sleep so that I just lay there in bad for a while. Oh well, such is life.

That happen really rarely on me that I have to get up in the middle of the night to pee. What I usually do is I pee before going to bed and the next time i pee is in the morning around 6 am. The only time that I would pee in the middle of the night that is if I drink water before going to bed most likely it would wake me up at night that is why i refrain from doing it.

i make it appoint that i wont go to pee at night because i really want to disturb my sleep so what i did is i never drink water before going to sleep to avoid urinating at night, because when you make full of you bladder you have to void so in order not to void dont drink

The doctors say if get up thrice or more , you have nocturia. It may be because of overactive bladder, incontinence or infection.First thing, voiding diary must be done.Avoid caffeinated drinks because it can be diuretic.Check also the medications you are taking because it may be the cause of the frequent voiding.See your urologist or urogynecologist
