At 18,do whites really have to look for a job?

What I know is that, when time comes that we are mature enough to make decisions, and have the skills, we then find a job. But cases like that of whites are different. At the age 18 years old, they will vacate from home, took care for themselves away from their family. Is this really true? And if this happens, I presumed, its a responsibility for them to look for a job for them to survive. Can anybody give some ideas? Did my point and my understanding regarding this matter true? or I misunderstood something.

I think I understand where you are coming from, for generations Whites have had a different opportunity, no all. I would say majority of the white young adults who have turned 18 will progress to college and not go looking for a job,but focus on their education. I feel most minority children are pushed to get jobs at 16 or so because money is needed in the house hold. but this is a general obersvation. not all whites do thing nor do minorities resort their children to working at a young age. in this day and time education is the force field and most students white or any other race are subjected to jobs because school is so expensive. I hope I understood your question and was able to give feedback Thanks

You shouldn't feel upset, I didn't say all white young adults progress to college versus the minority, because you are one who had to struggle doesn't deny that the majority of college students are white, and majority of white college students have help from their parents when going into college versus other races its jut the truth. thats why they have scholarship programs for the minority, and funding, and different programs because its the norm for the minority to need help, its not to say whites dont struggle because people are people and in this society their are many levels of income and status so I understand where you are coming from but in statisics i would have to say whites have had the advantage. now I am just as fustrated as you and far from being a racist if it was up to me race wouldn't be an issue but its something that will always be around, and has to be accepted. as a young black female, I was not able to go straight into college I had to get a job at 16 and help my mom I was poor, and I am thankful in my years of wisdom I have found ways to rise above and go to graduate school...

Acousticsoul the problem with stereotypes is they go both ways....if people say a majority of whites have a hand up on jobs and education and claim it to be so....then people who generalize black people as welfare people and claim it to be so....see. I have to say I didn't work when I was in hs at my father's request...we were definitely struggling and I didn't have my first job until college and near the end I had to work two part time jobs just to pay my housing costs while in school and that was with financial aide, grants and scholarsips. No help from the parents. The point is like you said it's not a racist thing. But generalized observations are dangerous. They rarely are true.

You make a very good point. and statistics are not always accurate. The thing I hate is when people try to play the race card, for what ever reason black or white its sad that we are not seen as a human race but the fact still remains the world evolves off of putting people in category placement. like you said its all stereotype and no one really know's what each and everyone is going through, yet it is important to read your history, im not saying this as an argument, but it has been documented I am not going off of the top of my head but it is a known fact whites have been the elite race for some time, and education has been a natural field, be it resources or etc... and its a known fact most minorities have to work before they get out of high school...not to say whites don't struggle... I try to look at it from both sides... :o)

I think kids should be working and making money from the time they can. If they want something they should make atleast part of the money for that item. Kids today ,here in the US atleast, do not seem to know the value of a dollar. They need to be taught from an early age so it is ingrained in them. Spoiled and dependant. This is why they live at home til they are in their 30's or 40's, sometimes later. Responsibility is not being taught and it needs to be.

well. as the ression comes by and seems it won't go for a long time. here also lots young people can't find a suitable job even the gradulator from colledge schools can't find a job. perhaps it's not most young people's own decision not to find a job. they can't find one. anyway i agree with you opinion that's its a responsibility to find one.

i learned from the responses that we should not categorize people into white or black or Asian or whatever. i was also curious about Americans becoming independent at the age of 18 from reading Archie's hehe and then i also learned it depends on the family. but i admire people who voluntarily get jobs either to help their family or to finance their own studies. there are also Filipinos like that who get a job at such a young age to help their family. there is a great need for more individuals, regardless of race, who learn to be responsible and independent at a young age.

It appears that you are focusing on what transpires in someone else life. If it is true that you are now eighteen years old,and residing with your parents then the question you should ask yourself is can I survive, live independently away from my parents home? Do I believe I will I be treated unfairly in life because of my minority status? Just as I has to read through the lines, and identify with your plight, please consider identifying with the truth in life. There is a saying "You are what you eat",which my be interpreted "As a man thinks so is he". Reach for the sky.

Basically, in most countries, like the USA, 18 is the legal age to be on your own, irregardless of race or color. In other countries it may not be the case. So it depends on where you are located.

I don't think this is something that only white people do, or even that all white people do. In my family it was expected that you get a job when you are legally old enough (16 here) and then by 18 you should be able to feed and clothe yourself, but not necessarily move out. But some of my friends of various races also had to get jobs and others were told to only go to school. I don't think it is a racial issue, but more of a cultural/family thing.

It depends. I don't think that it is a color issue, but an economic issue. If the family has money, it is easier for the person to get a start. I know someone who is getting ready to be 23, and he has NEVER had a job, pay check, or even Identification. He has been taken care of all his life by someone and has the nerve to call someone else spoiled. His parent was not rich, in fact, she was poor. His mom was just a very bad parent, and a con artist. So, it just depends

Every family dynamic is different...and by dynamic it's the innerworkings of a family...how they live, how people are raised, etc. Usually after any child turns 18 whether they go to college, get a job or both...most I think due to the economy issues are opting for the communinty college while living with the parents for two years....it just depends on the person. Definitely not the race.

First of all why are you stereo typing . It does not matter what race a person is , once they graduate from high school they either go to college or get a job. Some states allow children as young as 15 (with a workers permit) to get a job regardless of their race . And just because a person has a job and is 18 doesn't mean they have to leave home . My children I hope will stay at home until they are finacially stable enough to move on their own .. I do not want my children to start their lives on their own being in debt and having rediculously high interest rates on a mortgage that is already over inflated .

it doesnt matter what race you are, when you get a job usually depends on how much money your family has, my family was poor so I started making and selling bookmarks and pencils when I was in 2nd grade and got my first real job at 15, but i have a friend whos family is rich and hes 19 now and still hasnt gotten a job, I know whites and blacks who have jobs and some dont at young age

I think it would have been better if you have elaborated what the word "whites" pertains to. It's quite discriminating and vague. If you are from the Philippines then I may be able to guess who you are referring to, but if not, it can mean anything (white) to me.

I'm not completely sure I understand the question. However, there are families--regardless of race--who will have their children--either once they're old enough to get a job which is 16 in my state or once they're legal--get jobs as they believe it will teach them values or to help them pay for schooling and the like. Not all young adults immediately take up jobs once turning eighteen, but normally, it depends upon the family and its financial situation.

It's not only for whites, it's for all the race; majority, it's the economic situation that dictates a person that he has to work in such a young age, even younger that 18; it's also the reason why a person will strive harder to better life.
