Okay first of all I am a follower of the wiccan/pagan path, but heck I still like celebrating Palm Sunday and Easter if anything it gives me a great excuse to fix a special meal. This time last year at Easter I really didn't fix anything special as to be honest since it was the end of the month then (Easter last year was March 24th) and my funds were a bit low, so nuts can't even remember what I wound up fixing...LOL. This year since both holidays come fairly early in the month I have a bit of money to burn so can fix something special. In years past at Easter I used to fix a crown roast of lamb with a cranberry stuffing and asparagus with homemade Hollandaise sauce. I haven't had that in years, and really don't plan to have something so elaborate now, as one, lamb is too darn expensive especially a whole rack of lamb, and two, it would be way to much food leftover, but I might opt for something else, like instead of the crown roast of lamb, just get a few lamb chops and split them in the middle and stuff them with that cranberry stuffing recipe I have. And would still LOVE to have the asparagus....Love it As for Palm Sunday, which OMG is THIS coming Sunday...might go for a simple Ham Steak Dinner with Pineapple Slices with an Orange Sauce and maybe green bean almondine (just hope almonds don't have salmonella like the peanuts and pistachios have had....LOL) So folks, what are your plans for either Palm Sunday and/or Easter? Any special dinner plans? Visiting family? Friends? The picture for this interest is one of mine...some of those easter eggs I actually painted myself...the Ukrainian type

I guess you're sure glad you're not "celebrating" Easter the same way this year as you were last year

I celebrate Easter too because the kids aren't pagan and they honour the Christian holidays. It's lovely here in the village on Palm Sunday. It takes me back to the ancients and I'm at my window at ten o'clock, eagerly awaiting the procession. This procession is led by the vicar in his full robes, carrying a cross and wearing a laurel circlet. He's followed by an owner leading their donkey, and several parishioners carrying palm fronds. They all sing their Easter hymns as they parade down the street and up the steps to the church for the morning service. As I said... it so reminds me of ancient times. On Good Friday, I like to have lamb of some description, usually with rosemary, and on Easter Sunday, I feel that it's relevant to have some type of bird.. a chicken or turkey perhaps, because they are indicative of new beginnings in that they lay the eggs. Other than that, I join in with the chocolate egg giving, the Easter egg hunts and whatever else my family wants to do... it's all much the same as Ostara to me, but I get two bites at the cherry! lol. Easter puts me in mind of Ostara all over again! Brightest Blessings, and a Happy Easter to you.

That sounds like a great way they celebrate Palm Sunday in your area. They never really did anything special like that in my area, but maybe since I live in a more urban/city type environment...never even had Easter egg hunts here

My daughter and grandson will be coming in on Friday for the Easter weekend. My grandson also has Monday after Easter out of school so they will not be leaving for home until then. They live 300 miles away from us. As for dinner, we will either have a ham or if the weather continues to be as it is now we will more than likely bbq on the grill.

Yes, we have had a few days in the low 90's, it was 92 today. We should be in the 80's on Easter Sunday. The coolest it will get now in the daytime for us would be in the mid to upper 70's. Winter is not here in south Texas for sure.

Hi pye, A friend of ours brought us a turkey so I will have to cook that and of course my furbies will have a field day. If we are invited to my sisters's and I will have to cook it another time, I have also got a pheasant to cook so its a toss, thukey or pheasant? don'gt know yet. Bright Blessings. Tamara

We don't do anything special here. Nobody in the family eats lamb, so I might get a ham. Asparagus sounds terrific, my husband is finicky and won't eat it...but that's ok. More for me...lol. Hubby has a full weekend planned for himself. The NCAA playoffs and of course the Nascar races. That's ok with me too, I'll go hit some garage sales...

LOL--my mother couldn't cook to save her life. If she could have burned water she would have. When she was alive I had to "tone" down the spices too. I had one recipe for Louisiana Meat Pies (a Justin Wilson recipe)--that called for a special cajun style blend of spices...in other words HOT. Now that she's gone I've gone back to having as much hot spices as I want....LOL

When my mother was alive she neither cared for lamb OR asparagus....sheesh, but served it anyway as I figured gee, it's only once a year I do that.

Maybe she liked it better with some one else cooking it? If not, you at least got to enjoy it at least once a year. When my mother was living, she was a very bland cook...mostly because my dad insisted on it. Her spice rack consisted of salt and pepper. When she came to live with me, she had to adjust to a LOT more spices. She was at least willing to try stuff...and she liked it. The few things she didn't like I told her were payback for the things I didn't like, but she made me eat, when I was little.

For Easter Sunday, nothing. I am going to buy my kids easter baskets but that is all. I am not making a fancy meal. It will just be me, my 10 year old and my 5 year old. Before my Divorce my ex mother in law would make this bread with ham and cheese and I think salami and give my and my ex husband a few. My ex husband used to make the spaghetti pie. Now that it is just the three of us there is no more tradition. It was lost when my ex husband left.

Nothing for me here, I am Wiccan as well--so I don't celebrate it. And my family (who are baptists) were never big on Easter anyways. Once we got past the hunting and coloring eggs and getting baskets it sort of faded off the radar. We never had a special meal for it. It will be like any other Sunday for me.

Easter was never a big thing with my family either, I was the one who actually started that tradition of the crown roast of lamb dinner about thirty years ago. And for some weird reason, one movie I made a tradition to watch was the old Alan Ladd/Elsa Lanchester movie Androcles and the Lion...LOL...no idea why...certainly a lot better than the Ten Commandments --boring...(know I'll get wet noodles flung at me by someone here for saying that...LOL) Anyway, plan to dig out my old tape of that and watch it this year

Well naturally I have to work on Easter Sunday. I will be cooking ham for my residents, and scalloped potatoes, a veggie and homemade onion cheese bread. I'm not sure if my daughter is planning an Easter dinner, but if she is she will invite me to her house, after I get done work at 6pm.

I guess Easter is coming up soon huh? Well first of all I'll go to church that morning, I might go visit my mom's church, don't know yet, then my family and I will get together and do something. We don't really cook a big dinner or anything, usually we take the kids to the zoo and we'll have a picnic afterwards and hide eggs for them to hunt. Last year it was cold, we went to the zoo then after that we had a picnic in the park and we were sitting there freezing trying to eat, it was kinda funny tho..haha, but the kids enjoyed it they didn't seem to mind the cold like us adults did..lol.

Those eggs are beautiful! My father drove 300 miles last week and picked up my son to stay with him and my mother until Easter, so my daughter and I will be traveling to pick him up over the holiday weekend. My daughter is getting excited to get to go to PaPa and MaMa's house and I'm sure my parents are getting excited to have me show up to get my spoiled son. I know they love having him around, but I also know that they are not used to having a 2 year old around ALL the time and that it is hard on them. But I'm going to enjoy the rest of my weekend and this next week, just being free of a 2 year old.

Wow, those eggs are beautiful! You have a gift! I wouldn't have the patience for something so elaborate; they are truly lovely, good on you! I'm not much of a cook so Easter Sunday is my mum's domain; she is a brilliant cook and whips up Italian culinary masterpieces with ease. I think she is planning ravioli with Bolognese sauce, roast lamb and vegies and apple pie; she may change her mind but we know it will be delicious. My mother and I hardly ever see eye to eye but her cooking is one of the few things we agree on, it is exquisite! You sound as though you know your way around a kitchen even your simplest idea sounds yummy, hope you have a lovely Easter although I know we'll talk before then!

Well, we already celebrated Ostara and this year we opted to go out for it. I was tired from just completing a graduate class, and my husband having completed his class so we enjoyed Red Lobster. I had a wonderful steak medium rare, loaded baked potatoe, and broccoli. I adore their cheese biscuits! My husband enjoyed his usual platter of shrimp, lobster, and crab legs, and our son enjoyed shrimp. I also enjoyed a Mudslide, which are devine. We ended the night enjoy the "treats" left for the children. Lots of yummy marshmellow bunnies, peanut butter eggs, jelly beans, malted eggs, and m&m's. Namaste-Anora

Okay well tomorrow I will be going to church at about 11 am. I will then go back home and prepare some food for the family. Probably pasta with tomato sauce and then a nice steak. I will then serve a cake I bought yesterday afternoon at the pastery down my street. At night, we will go out probably for a drive or go somewhere special with the guests. How are you guys celebrating ?

We are Catholics, and I appreciate your celebrating Palm and Easter Sunday, just like us. However, in keeping with the solemnity of the celebration, we just go to Church and do the via Crucis (Way of the Cross). In preparation for it, I went to confess my sins yesterday. We are also encouraged to do fasting (just one full meal a day) especially during Good Friday. Corporal works of mercy could also help us remember the Paschal suffering of Christ. We don't really prepare foods as grand as yours, but instead we just stay at home and do the usual routine, save for the Via Crucis which is held every Good Friday. All the shops will be closed this time in most cities in the Philippines, and we refrain from eating meat; only veggies, fish and bread. However, on Easter Sunday, we could have a feast, which my family seldom does because of strict diets we are in right now. Thanks for your informative sharing. It widened my horizon and ways of seeing things.

It's funny how times have changed here. It used to be on any special holiday, all stores would be closed up, but not anymore. We even have stores open on Christmas, they do close earlier but nonetheless, are open those days.

I am ukrainian so I love to make the eggs with my children at this time of the year. Though I am no longer a christian and have an earth based spirituality, I still like to do the bunny thing with my children and have a nice meal together. Though my daughter and I are vegetarian I will be making a turkey for the boys and a mock chicken pot pie for the girls. We will still have all the fixings there too with gravy and stuffing. Mashed potatoes and carrots. I don't usually make a dessert cause we have all the chocolates that the bunny left us.

One day I'll have to paint more eggs. Those eggs I did were years and years ago. Sadly they all broke over the years. I did that trick of making a very small hole and getting the inside of the egg out..so that made them very fragile

I heard about wiccan already but I really dunno what is all about. I am a christian and I would love to go with the lenten season but I can do the things we used to do for this tradition. I am working in a company that is serving americans, it is business as usual and no absences allowed except if you are in a vacation. For the palm sunday, I love waiting for the palm to be blessed with holy water. For easter sunday, as always it is the best day to go the beach and have swimming. Have a good day!

Our special plan on Palm Sunday is ofcourse going to the church and have our palm be blessed. While on Easter Sunday, our family usually go to the beach and spend our time together. But this year, we have decided that before going to the beach, we will first join the Easter Egg hunt being conducted and spearheaded yearly by our local FM station, Love Radio 91.1 MHz. We think that it is really a big fun, since we will find easter eggs scattered all over the City of Tacloban! And we will get the chance to visit our historic and famous landmarks since it is where the easter eggs are hidden!

That sounds like a lot of fun to have an Easter egg hunt. I don't know why, but they never had them when I was a kid near where I live
