Ban on HIV Positive Immigration

United States

I was speaking to a friend about HIV/AIDS supporters and events and she was telling me people who have HIV/AIDS are banned from entering the USA. I thought she was misinformed. Sounds like a strange rule. So, I googled it and it's true! What do you think of this ban? Are you an American? If not, does your country have a similar ban? If you're not American, would you support or dissuport a ban like this?

I agree with the ban. For a few reasons. we do not allow contagious diseases because of the chance of infecting our citizens. Also, health care is another factor. It may sound cruel but we can not have all of the world's sick people come here. Think about it with your head not your heart.

It is a shame but something has to be done.Aids sufferers cost a lot in medical bills which are met by the government of the country they are in.Maybe these people have no money or have paid nothing in to the economy of the country they wish to live in.We get that in England as well as much as we feel for other people we just cannot afford to treat the world. We have enough trouble getting treatment in this country and we have paid into the system for years.Don't misunderstand me it breaks my heart.xx

I emigrated to the USA from England in 1960. I had to go to the US Emassy in Liverpool and have a complete physical - including blood tests and wait for the results of that before I could get my immigrants visa. I think anyone with an infectious disease such as HIV should not be allowed into our country and vice versa. Why should our citizens be put at risk from people who want to bring disease into our country.
