I've been pondering on this the past few days, I've always wanted to write a book, or at least a collection of short stories, I dont really feel like going through the work of printing it and trying to publish it, but I also dont want it to be for my eyes only so what do you mylotters think? if I was to start writing a book, and post it on my site 1 chapter a week or a new short story every week would you be interested in reading it?

Do you have any writing experience? You may like to post a few short stories up in Associated Content and see what the comments are. There are some writers who write mainly short stories and posted them there. I'm following a writer who likes to write ghost stories. Those countryside kind of stories but always with a ghost in it. You can choose to give Exclusive Rights, Non-Exclusive Rights or Display Only to Associated Content. Exclusive Rights will earn you upfront payment and page views payment ($1.50 per 1000 page views). If you want to retain rights to publish the short stories in book format, then you should not give Exclusive Rights to any writing sites.

well actually I was thinking about a collection of short stories but in diary form of 4-8 people during a zombie apocolypse...something about zombies fascinates me, and since I've never seen that approach done with that kind of story I figured it would be an interesting story for horror fans thanks for the advice on the associated content, I might check that out.

I thought if you submitted something to associated content they owned it and you could not do anything else with whatever you submitted to them?

You can choose the Display Only option. You can have the right to delete or edit your article anytime. I have not voluntarily deleted any article. Some of my articles were taken down due to grammar errors. I re-submitted those articles and AC restored those page views and refund the page views bonus.

I prefer short stories first. You should start with short stories and then let your friends read it and ask them for opinions. You can also post it in your website then see if you have visitors that follows your weekly stories. ^_^ If you have already written a story please tell me and I'm interested to read it. I'll wait ^_-

i actually have already written a short story my senior year of highschool, it went through peer review and everyone loved it, the only complaint was that it got cut too short, there was so much more that could have been added but I was on a deadline and it was either a decent story on time for a B or a masterpiece late for an F I'm currently looking to try to find my story, if I happen to find it I'll send it to you. its about the end of the world, and I think it was well written, it possibly could have a movie made after it, lol

That seems to be the new way to write a book, online. I love this idea of self publishing and getting your name in print before you even finish the book. I have two books in the making too online. Just been so busy to finish. Good luck!

well I figured putting it on the web would be able to reach more people than to just publish it, some people are iffy about buying books written by an unknown author so I dont think I'd sell too much and then not many people would read it, however putting it online where people can read it for free, and be able to come back to it and read it whenever they want without it taking up room in their house I think it would appeal to more people

I'm approaching the horror theme, I can get detailed with that, I'm not much into writing the sappy kind of book, I figured since zombies have been the craze lately when it comes to movies and video games I should follow the fad and make a zombie book or two

Well if you're thinking about writing a book then the first person you have to write it for is yourself. You'll lose interest easily if you're not writing the book because you want to but instead to make money. I think that you would be better off going through printing and publishing because personally I really don't like reading stories off of the internet I think it hurts most people's eyes. I can only wish you good luck in your writings.

well thanks for the support, I'm not really trying to make money, just looking for recognition and possibly make a couple cents from adsnese, but at the same time I dont feel like spending the money to print and publish it if I'm not even sure if I'll break even on profits and expenses

Well if you don't like to go through the painful process of printing and stuff. What you can do is write the book first, copyright it. Then create a e-book version. Give a four or 5 chapter view on your webpage and sell the book for a affordable price say 2 - 3 $. If you are really good writer and people love reading your work your popularity will increase and you will also get some encouragement. Hope this works and it helps you. All the best. And please send me your book or sites link!
