Hi everyone! I am having an ordeal today. My face is swollen, my eyes are puffed and it's kinda itchy. I don't know how it started but I just woke up Saturday morning feeling itchy on my face. Scratched it several times and after sometime the face started to swell forming like patches of insect bites. I searched the internet for it cause I've figured it could be an allergy and from what I have learned they are called "hives". They say it's really nothing serious and that it just goes away just like when it suddenly appears but for how long? I can't eat a lot of food such as soy, milk and eggs but as far as I can remember I don't have any food allergies. I'd really like to visit a doctor cause I don't look like the same anymore. It's like I'm a different person because the face has started to swell really bad. But it's Sunday today and the doctor we knew isn't available. Though I have some infos about these hives allergies but I'd like to know from those who have experienced having it. How dangerous is it and what other foods should I not eat? How long will the bumps subside cause I can't go out. It's embarrassing to look like this. What does really causes these allergies? Anything you know about this allergy please do share it.

Hi riyasam,I tried the cold compression and yes it does help decrease the itching. If I'm right I know you're a doctor, would it be ok if I take some antihistamines without any prescriptions?

Oh gosh you poor thing! I have been through food allergies many years ago and it's all completely cleared up now. I had to keep a note of absolutely everything that I ate in order to try and pinpoint it to what could have been the cause. I then had allergy tests. The first thing I was asked was 'what is the one thing you would want to give up?' and of course it was the one thing I was allergic too - milk! I had to give up everything containing milk and that meant everything including ham and some tinned foods which had milk in the ingredients. Over a period of about 18 months and sticking to a diet of maninly fruit and vegetables and grilled meat I managed to get my system back to normal and now I can eat everything again with no problesm at all. I suggets you think about what you ate in last few days even going back to 5 or 6 days ago because things remain in our sytem for that amount of time. Then you must see a doctor just to be sure it is nothing too serious. Today just eat fruit and vegetables and drink only water and I hope you will soon, very soon, be feeling better. Please keep us informed too!

18 months? It took that long until everything is normal again?! Oh geez I hope mine wouldn't take that long to cure. Over the last 5-6 days I had chicken, pastries, ice cream, eggs, vegetables, fish and sodas I think. But I never had allergies on these foods before. My sister told me not to eat anything oily so as as a precaution I only had spam for this day. Spam for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But so far my face is still swollen.

It took 18 months before I could eat things with milk products in them again but I was already feeling much better after three months of not eating any milk products at all. The swelling, itching and other things that I had gradually disappeared. Spam? There's a heck of a lot of 'rubbish' goes into that. I would stick to something more natural rather than preconfectioned food. Rice for example.
