Which do you prefer? I love & do both but I would have to say that I prefer crocheting overall as it's alot faster than knitting.

I was taught how to knit by my mom when I was in primary school then about 5 years ago, I found a pull out from a magazine & re-taught myself from the instructions...If you like, I could copy the pages & post them to you or when I get the scanner set up, I could email them to you...the intructions are easy to follow.

I don't know how to crochet, but I like knitting. I am knitting a blanket at the moment, it is big project, but I like it. I have knitted many other things in the past. I would like to learn to crochet, I have tried it many years ago, but I never got the hang of it, and I decided to stick to knitting. My mother keeps saying that crocheting isn't as hard as knitting and that I should be able to learn it as I can already knit, I don't know, maybe I just need some more practice.

Have you finished this project yet? I'd love to see a picture if you have one.

well knitting is better for me though I must say I love the intricate lacey designs of crochet. But crochet being too intricate, I get a headache everytime I have attempted it. I have poor eyesight and so knitting is the best bet.

I can understand where you're coming from...my friend actually taught me how to crochet & she's legally blind but I think she learned how to crochet before she lost her sight. I just think for me, crocheting is faster & I can produce more things in a shorter time.

I prefer crocheting because I only know how to crochet. I would love to learn how to knit, but it looks so complicated, and I see myself getting my needles and my yarns all tangled up. I think knitted designs are so beautiful, though. I do mostly thread crochet. I haven't worked with yarn in ages. I find crocheting with thread is easier for me than trying to crochet with yarn.

knitting isn't as complicated as it looks - I have a little book that has step by step instructions for both knitting & crocheting...maybe you could check your local library, they may have something if you still want to learn

I got taught how to knit fist when I was a kid so I guess that's why it doesn't elude me too much.

I only know how to crochet but really I think it would be less boring than knitting appears to me. Too you can pull the stitches out if you make a mistake easier with crochet. TO me crocheting seems to have alot more variety in appearance than knitting.

I totally agree - I mean, I do love knitting too but knitting can be more intricate & does have alot more variety.

I am not an expert at either, but I prefer knittting. About the only thing that I can knit are scarves, and squares for baby blankets. I never got the hang of crocheting, beyond the first row. LOL I can do the first row, but then I am absolutely stuck. LOL

I was the same until I sat down with a friend who showed me how to read a pattern. I also have a little book which shows you the basics for both knitting & crocheting..if you like, I can photocopy it & post it to you or try to scan & email it to you..

I enjoy both but it depends on what I am actually making. For clothing I prefer knitting because you get a much smoother fabric (if you work in stocking stitch) and the cables look nicer in knit than crochet in my opinion. But when I am designing toys I like to crochet. I have been knitting for over 20 years and crocheting for about 10 years. I have a knit and crochet blog if anyone is interested in having a look. http://jedopi3bagswool.blogspot.com. Stop by and leave me a comment.

I am having a look at your blog now & it's great - I'd love to have some of the patterns for your toys!! I'd also like to know how to design crochet patterns as well...my mum taught me how to knit about 20 years ago & a friend taught me how to crochet about 6 years ago...I agree with the alot of the stuff you said about knitting & crocheting.

I enjoy doing both. But it use to take me forever to knit balls for the kids. Then I found out about loom knitting. I now make afghans in a couple of weeks doing it with a loom. I also can make a ball in 30 minutes or less instead of hours. So I would have to say that knitting is my favorite now.

Loom knitting...I wonder if that's what I call french knitting...is it the one where you have the shapes with the pegs on top & you have the stitches coming down from the inside? If so, I'm actually looking for patterns for my french knitting set :P

Yes but it is much bigger in fact some are straight and some are circular. You can even buy some really big ones and make sweaters from them. You can make, gloves, socks, mittens, all kinds of stuff with the looms. I really enjoy it. Look up provo craft looms, and you may find some great patterns.
