Maybe we should issue warnings about long posts?

I posted a rather (rather, okay to be honest a darned long ) rant. I checked the post this morning and found this post to the discussion: "Your discussion is too long. If you want my opiion about this then first explain your point in short so that I can give my precious time to your discussion." I apologize for the length of my post, which can be viewed at: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1970025.aspx?p=1#1_11174711 Or find it as it is titled "This is a RANT alert...If you're weak of heart don't read" Maybe there should be sub categories for short and longer posts, so those people who want to make "fast" money don't have to read so much and those of us who do myLot for enjoyment can read the longer ones. In my defense, if you realize the fact that I was extremely upset and even more furious. I was about to go to bed after a high speed day with a lot of stops and a lot of stress. Add on to that the fact that I am in severe pain and am seeing my second doctor in 24 hours... Then to have someone who had received $3500 in school grants and loans ask to borrow money to buy a spiral sliced ham...after she pissed the money away on crap. UHH, wouldn't you be ranting and raving too? If I hadn't dumped my anger and frustration in that rant, I wouldn't have been able to sleep last night. So, if you're going to do a long post, maybe you should mark it "This is a long post, don't read it if you're too important, busy, or lazy to read through it all".

Aren't we encouraged to do detailed, which would mean long, posts here at myLot? I haven't visited your previous thread but I don't think there's a need to issue such warning. They are noticeable even just by looking from the lists of discussions. AS for the one who posted such nice retort, maybe he/she was pissed off just like you and brought out whatever he/she is feeling by picking on anyone else. If one has no time to read long posts, then he/she is free to ignore such posts. If he/she wanted quick money, then he can do more by responding point by point which could mean higher payment.

I don't see anything wrong with your rant--you even broke it up into paragraphs which made it easier to read. I saw your rant in my digest this morning and I was appalled at how your "friend" spends money. I wouldn't give her a cent! You work hard and you're responsible with your money, she has no right to ask you for money and you shouldn't feel obligated to give her any. She sounds like a real leech and you need to get rid of her. You need positive people in your life, not moochers. I hope you feel better soon, mentally and physically.

Well I do not mind the long ones but I must say sometimes if it is not broken up I have trouble reading it and understanding what the person is trying to say. I myself try to make my discussion pretty short and to the point but I also can see where someone might need to explain them selfs well. Too bad it got deleted, take care and happy mylotting to you.

No questions that that discussion was pretty long but I think if people doesn't want to read, they have their choice, no need to say things like that. Some people just want to drop few words and move on to the next discussion to make "fast" money as what you said. I don't blame them but say something like that is disrespect more than anything while you really want to share your story with us! Don't woory! Lots of people out there appreciate your work! :-)

hi, loverbear! i thought it was a long discussion, but really nothing for me to complain about. I believe length should not be criticized in a website where discussions with substance are given due payment. ^_^ also, we are here to talk about anything and everything... if we have something long to say, then it should be okay. but i hate to tell you this... it's actually written in the guidelines that we are not allowed to post a discussion that will point attention to another post in another thread. perhaps we can go around this rule by not posting the exact link to the other thread (because thar directly pointed to another discussion). don't worry, i'm not about to report this as abuse... ^_^ i thought it would be nice for sincere people on mylot like you to know, so that in the future, it won't happen again. (and you won't risk having your discussions erased- and your earnings deducted!) don't sweat someone saying the post is too long. obviously, they had nothing productive to contribute. i suggest you not answer to their posts either, as it merely makes them think they hit a nerve. if they think your long post is not worth their time, then you should also think their comment is not worth your time as well. hehe ^_^ and you (or anyone else) don't need to warn people about long and shorts posts... most people welcome great discussions, whether long or short. if they don't like what they read, they should just move on, right? there's nothing bad about long posts that it should warrant a warning. ^_^ so if you want to rant again, you should. because, most importantly, nowhere in the guidelines does it say it's not allowed to post long rants. people who flame others, on the other hand (like if someone says your post is too long in a manner that is obviously meant to flame/ anger you) are breaking the rules because it clearly says in the guidelines that we are not allowed to post comments that are meant to specifically anger someone. (hint: you can report responses that you think were posted out of spite.) nice meeting you! happy mylotting!

Ok Mylot is freedom of expression and if you chose to write a long post then oh well. Instead of them responding in that negative way they should have just kept it moving. The point of Mylot is to enjoy posting and responding to people's post. To impact people's life's in a positive way not negative. I completely understand if they thought the post was to long but all they had to do was find another post. I do not think that you should have to put a warning label on short or long post. I am glad that you were able to vent and get it out in the open. It is not a good thing to keep these things bottled up. I hope you got a good night's sleep. It is just that some people have a short attention span and can not pay attention that long. I support all post and everyone should try that.

You're right (LOL). But at least I am feeling much better now! I had to drive 100 miles one way to my neurologist. He gave me four (Yep, FOUR) shots at the base of my skull...two on each side right at the base and next to the spine. The pain is finally dissipating and I'm feeling human again. I'm not good at one line discussions...but I think I'm going to try a couple in the near future.

Oh, loverbear, you are so lovely with your last sentence. We all have our preferences and choices. It is up to the individual to read, respond or skip the discussion. Do not take it too personally. Perhaps that person just needs to put in some words to make a cent. Personally, I do read long discussions if they are well structured. I do understand a short one can end up becoming long when one tries to provide details and hence is able to accomodate long discussions.

It is a very long post, but hay if a person doesn't want to respond just because it long then I wouldn't worry about it.

They can see it is long when they open it. If that is not what they want to read, they should skip it. There is no need to be rude. I am like you, I do not post on MyLot for the money...I do it because I enjoy the discussions. I pick the ones that interest me. Keep posting what you like and try not to worry about that one ugly response.

There are 167 306 members in Mylot. I am sure some delight in reading long rants and long discussions. I doubt very much though if someone in Africa, India, Asia, Bosnia or Denmark would be interested in whether or not you would fork out the money to a friend to buy a spiral ham. Some people have to worry whether or not there is anything to eat at all. There is private messaging which we can use to vent with our friends on Mylot. I think the idea of a general discussion forum is to discuss stuff that is of interest to a wide variety of people. Thus the idea that we should engage in quality discussions. I grant you though that the idea of quality is a subjective one. To get to your question though. Should we issue a"warning" regarding long posts? Absolutely not. If people want to read them they will, others won't, some will make a comment which you received about your long discussion. Everybody can voice their opinion about any subject here on mylot as long as it is done in a respectful manner. At least that has been my experience as long as I have enjoyed the discussions on Mylot.

That was totally rude. No one has to read any of the posts here unless they want to. If it was too long for the person just don't read it is all. If I come across posts that are very long I just don't read them. I don't comment on how long the post was. Of course I do have to say if there is a long post and it catchs my interest I will read a long post. Only if it catchs my interest. The main thing is you were able to get what was bothering you off your chest and that is a good thing.

I think that the fact that some people just see Mylot as a money making machine, they would post to any discussion and say anything just so that they cna get some of the daily cash sharing. So sometimes it is best to just ignore such posters and keep it moving

i think the person who made that post to yer discussion is extremely rude. all ya hafta do is LOOK at the post to see if its lengthy or not, there neednt be a warning to say its long.. and if looking at too many words on the screen is just toooo taxing on yer little brainpan.. just dont read it!

I read your post but didn't respond ,but I will to this one .For people to comment one has to have a good understanding of how and to what they give a reply and sometimes a short post won't do that.So to get all the information needed to give an appropiate answer a lengthy post is needed. If people don't wish to read long posts it is their choice weither they read and answer or move on. Hope you feel better for having gotten it of your chest ? Cheers.

I don't think that discussions need to be marked that they are long or short in content. If you are here on myLot, I am assuming you can see to read what is on the page, and if you can see, then you can simply scroll down a bit and see just how long the discussion is Before you begin to read it, that's what I do, and if they are too long then I usually do not have the time to read them as I am only able to be here a short time when I come...if you can't see then if probably doesn't matter how long it is.
