MyLot reputation star question

United States

Hey everyone, I recently reached 100 points (horray!), and now have the reputation star by my name. I was excited about reaching this MyLot milestone, but dismayed at the fact that my star is only at 4, with a reputation of 37/100! I'm curious if you start out low and then increase, or maybe people just haven't been liking my posts, haha. Also, is the star system based on what people rate your posts (using the plus and minus buttons) only? Sorry if these are redundant questions, and thanks in advance for your help. :)

yeah people have been voting you negative dont worry its not a popularity contest, just say what you think people will respect you more for it. Thats what this site is about, theres far too many people who gived replies just to try and get good ratings. Be true to yourself and shoot from the heart so to speak.

I wouldn't worry about it too much; it's just a little star next to your name. I'm not worrying about it, it'll probably be quite a while before I'll have to worry about it, I can't find an awful lot of discussions to post on. Oh, and by the way, just because I'm feeling kind, I rated your discussion up. Although, to be honest, I would probably quite enjoy having a star next to my name.

Yes, It's arrived at by the + or - buttons. Don't worry about it though. It does not affect your earnings.

Ah, thanks for your response. I knew it wouldn't affect my earnings, but it was unsettling because I kept trying to remember if I wrote a really controversial post somewhere, haha.

In the FAQs it tells you more about the Discussion Rating Suystem including this: 'The DRS is factored into our proprietary earnings algorithm, so this will help us properly reward valuable contributions to the myLot community.' http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx

Well, it took me awhile before I got my star. You just have to give the best answer that you can give to the person that posted the discussion. Soon enough your reputation will increase.

I just gave you a plus. Do not worry, newbies are always low. I was disappointed too when I got a star because my posts were good. I am funny, smart and intelligent and have been told so, well at least as much as everyone else, nothing that needs to be downrated. There was only one lady who really snapped at my answer so I figured it might have been her that downrated my posts. Just stay away from the religion crazees and the politicos. I think they tend to negative you if you do not agree with them. The rating system is supposed to be to rate participation but is used to punish.

Thanks for your response! Now that you mentioned it, I just remembered that I responded to a post about Fox News... *that* could have been what drove my rating down so much!!
