A polar bear attacked a woman at Berlin Zoo

Apparently she climbed a fence and jumped into its habitat during feeding time. "One adult polar bit her several times after she plunged into the moat, police said. Zoo workers tossed rescue rings toward the woman to hoist her out and distract polar bears swimming nearby." Well DUH! What did she expect was going to happen? http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/04/11/polar.bear.attack/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

I just got that news on my cell right now. I don't think the women was sane. Who would climb a fence and go into a polar bear's habitat? Especially during feeding time?

My sentiments exactly. We are seeing these stories more often. These people should know better. The animals are in the zoo but they are still wild. There is a limit to how close a picture you can get . Nuts!

Wouldn't it be funny to go to a zoo that had all different sorts of humans in it? I think that a lot of people forget that humans are animals as well as anything else. I personally don't believe that animals belong in captivity for our entertainment. Granted some of them may have been rescued and what not but still it's just kind of weird to make another animal spend it's life in a cage where other animals can look at it and be entertained.

That was a bad news. Maybe the guide didn't give good service to polar. Take care of animal is necessary to avoid that accident.

She probably watched too much Disney when she was young or she watched the Coke Commercials. That would do it. Maybe she watched the wrong movies and should have watched the dangerous animal encounters. Or she could have been one of those who believe that people are evil and animals will not harm you. So did she think that the polar bear was going to play with her, and let her pet him or her? I mean they probably thought she was going to be desert or to steal their food. Some people do not have the sense they were born with.

Hahaha.. Well, she asked for it. Why would a sane adult person jump into the habitat of a bear?! Thanks for sharing.

Hello estherlou. It is so terrible for the woman to climb the fence as to have caused such an accident to her with the polar bear attacking her. I have no idea why some people don't obey the zoo rules not to what is forbidden for them to do. If only everyone were careful and followed the rule! Anyway I wish the woman to be ok from the attack. Thank you for the link and I am going to read about it.

It seems that we hear a story like this at least one or two times a year. I don't know what goes through a person's mind when they are climbing protective barriers to get closer to a wild animal...hello!!! Do people think that those barriers are there to protect the bear? This kind of thing just leaves me speechless.

In the article that I did read, she wanted to play with the bears. She was so silly for what she had done. They have enclosures for the animals for a reason.

It was her fault, she jumped into the polar bears zone and that to during feeding time. I guess she was lucky she did not die
