What motivates you to keep on living?

We all have our shares of failures and tragedies in our lives, it's part of living and we have to accept that. Other people deal with it lightly, while some do the worst things possible. There was this news article I read about a single mother poisoning her 13 year old son to death, then committing suicide herself, all because she lost her job ,the bills are mounting, and she can't get a decent job fast enough to pay for all of those bills. It's easy for me to say "I would never do that", but I have yet to face a situation so dire I would even think of harming anyone, much less myself and my loved ones. My wife and the thought of raising a family with her is what's keeping me motivated through all the difficulties I'm facing right now. I'm not gonna give the details of what problems I'm facing, suffice to say I'm losing a lot of money. My wife is by my side, I still have my job, I can start all over, I think I just might make it thru all this in a couple of years. What about you, what keeps you going in life? I would appreciate all your stories. Cheers!

My life has shifted to some degree. A year ago, or more like three years ago my life was governed by my kids. That being my daughter and her two children. Now this has shifted. I have moved away from my kids and I am embarking on a life with a man I met in March. He is my focus now. Life is a series of changes and choices. We need to make good on both.

Hi celticeagle. I agree, life is indeed a series of changes and choices, but most of the times we do make mistakes on both. Goodluck on your new life focus, cheers!

Hi brady2moss! Money can lead to a lot of stress and in these times it's hard on everyone. It makes you wonder what pushes someone over the edge like that. I think the thing that keeps me going is mainly my children..and another day. I think that if we look at days like new chances it helps. I've been through some really really tough times and I'm here. I'm ok now. You have to keep remembering that life is full of chances and reasons. One door may close..but another one opens. A couple of years is really nothing more than the blink of an eye once their over and if you are better then than what you are now or was before...then maybe it will all be worth it. Heads up...your going to be ok.

You've got a very timely question there. I am currently in the brink of giving up. In the past few days, I was depressed, sad and very lonesome. I always think why these things are happening. I get to lose my face in front of my friends but I kept on going, doing my everyday life. What kept me moving on, I'm no religious person but my faith with God and my faith to myself had kept me moving on. I always had this thought that God will never give me something I cannot overcome. When I got tired of fighting my own war I just find myself surrendering to God everything. Especially during the lenten season, I really had a time reflecting on my deeds and for the first time in my life I did pray wholeheartedly. It may sound as cliche, but it was my faith that kept me moving on. Faith that God will not forsake me and faith that I'll be able to overcome these problems. :-

Hang in there blueangel, it's great that you still believe in God despite everything you've been thru. Yes you will overcome this problem, it's not gonna be easy but you will pull thru. Just keep the faith, and keep on fighting.

Very much absorbing read. Yes, people are doing anything weird out of frustration and tuning with you I too add that I have not yet faced identical situation to dare such step so far. As I too have my job intact, the thing that motivates me most now to keep on kicking is the future of my son who is just 7.1 years old. What I wanted to be and what little goal I had set for myself has been realized and the rest is insured for him and for the happiness of my wife and a little wish to do something worthwhile for the falling apart society I am a part of. And nothing more.

Hi, brady2moss! That is very sad about about what the mother did to her son. It just shows that life is so bad now. We are losing too many of each other day by day. I could never harm or kill my babies because I am so stressed out. There is just no way. I believe that my kids are what is motivating me to keep on living. I could not just give up now, I have come to far too turn back now. And because of knowing that God loves me and that he has a particular purpose for me, I know that I can't just lose it. I have to stay strong for myself and for my kids. They are looking at me now. I am their role model.

Yeah it was very sad indeed, I wish it never happens again. You are right we must stay strong no matter what happens, specially in front of our kids, so that one day when it's their urn to face the world, they will be strong just like their parents. Cheers!

What's motivating me is the fact that I'm only 24, my lovely fiance and our home, the projects I got going on right now, and the thought of retiring very very early.

Hi, ya, I have also faced failures in my life where I feel like giving up but I am still here. Hence, i believe that time is what we need to heal the pain in our heart. We have to have goals all the time to keep us living. To me, I think what is keeping me going is that I want to earn more money in life. Although money is not everything, it can solves a lot of problems be it my own problem or the people around me. When I have money, I can contribute to the society and people around me can have a better quality of life.

Hey there ionsquare. Strangely enough the cliche "Money is not everything, it's the only thing" is ringing loud and clear in this recession the world is facing. Oddly enough I don't believe money is everything, but I do agree with you that it solves a LOT of problems. Cheers.

I have lost my job, I have a lot of debts, I've been a bad daughter, sister and person...but despite of all these God's love is my motivation to live, He never repay according to my sins for His love never fails for He gives me the grace to forgive. I am moving on with my life...I still have a big God who has a lot of promises in store for me.(^_^)

My personal motivation would be that I haven't accomplished everything that I want.I'm still young and I have a lot to look forward to.Even if you live through a bad experience, even if you reach rock bottom it's still not a good enough reason to wish you weren't alive.Life is a gift and no one has the right to take it away from us except for God. Motivation can be found everywhere, like a beautiful day,a person you love,a new job and pretty much everything good that happens to us

Hi brady2moss.. I guess you are right in there, its easier to say when you are not in his or her situation and when you experience it then you will realize that its not far off to possible. It never crossed my mind though to give up on life even if sometimes I felt like everything turn out different from what I expected. My family, boyfriend and most especially myself motivate me to live life once more, to pause if I get tired and continue the never ending story of life. You should not give up, those are just material things that can be replace of. Be thankful you have your wife with you and yourself to go on the battle of life. Goodluck my friend.

What keeps me motivated. Remember the story about he hare and the tortoise? You probably remember hearing about it from ur childhood. Well that story is what keeps me motivated. Even though the tortoise may not have been the fastest in the race, he won in the end b/c he just kept right on moving. Like you said we all face tough challenges in life. But often I wonder what life would be like without the challenges, probably a bore. Anyhow no matter what I'm doing. I like to think that I'm making a difference even if I only do one thing a day to make my life or the life of my loved ones better. Also I have faith in God that anything is possible as long as I keep believing. BTW, I never did set out in life to have it all......but my mission was to help show my family members that If I could achieve something then so can they. So far I have achieved at almost everything that I've ever set out to do all accept for one thing. Now that is the the challenge for me to pass a certain exam......... The exam is very hard and its not ur normal everyday stuff but I do believe that one day I will pass it, no matter how many times I have to take it.........the moral of this story is not to ever give up.....Be thankful for the small things in life. Also try to take life one day at a time. I have found this way ideas will just begin to come to you one by one as you face ur challenges. Be blessed. E.

Hi ,friend I would like to say that what makes me keep on living in the world simply is to live better than before . Since I was born I lived a poor life but now I am living a better life with hope and dreams. You know there are so many things that are unknown by people . I would like to discovery unknown fields that makes me feel excited and happy . I know I am an unique girl in the space so I treasure my life with working hard to make life better and better.

The onething that makes me keep on living is my family. Problems might come and go... luxuries might take you up and down. But the love and affection I get from my family and the love and affection that I show towards my family is a constant one. I will not give the pain to my family members by losing me.

The answer is love to all. The gift of giving love and helping loved ones we know we can't just decide one day that these re things we want. If only this were the case! God has made it a little more real for us. Let's get real! And in this sense, there is a certain element of Divine humor. We live to rediscover what we are and have always been. Sometimes we find that our motivation has changed because of circumstances, and we are forced into situations we dislike; like a job we dislike, or a partner we do not really love, even a place we do not like living in. Finding a way to solve these problems could lead to success, simply because perhaps a change in career could motivate you to become a success, or even a change in the area we live in.
