Some people live in a country that has a national healthcare system and I think it is a good thing. However in other countries, the US in particular, there is great opposition to it. What are your views?

The problem with nationalized healthcare in America is the working class can't afford it. It's not free. NOthing is free. 0bama plans on implimenting this by raising taxes to nearly 40 or 50% of our earnings. I guess he feels the $40 a month I pay for my healthcare is worth half of my income to pay for yours. I pay enough for everyone else. I'm not wanting to have half my income vanish to pay for some welfare mom to take her 8 kids to the doctor. Plus any time the government takes over anything, they screw it up.

Here in Denmark we have a national healthcare system and I am very happy about that. If I need to see a doctor or if I need to go hospital I never have to worry about paying the bills. Everything is "free" (paid through taxes) We have private hospitals, too and if you are able to/willing to pay for your own treatment you can skip the waitinglists. In my country it is possible to see a phychiatrist for years without paying for it, but you usually have to pay for seeing a psychologist. Dental care is not included in the system, so we have to pay for that.

I live in Canada, where we have nationalized health care, and I thank god for it ever time I go to the doctor. Is our system perfect, heck no, far from it, however if I get seriously ill I don't have to worry about how I am going to pay the doctor to help make me better.

I remember when I first found out that in America, healthcare wasn't paid for by taxes. and I was really shocked. it seems like the sort of thing that would only happen in a third world country. you don't ever imagine that in a developed country people might have to consider whether or not they can afford to go to the doctor when they are ill or not. when I am not well, I don't have to wonder if it's serious enough to justify the cost of a visit. my contraception is free. when my partner was in hospital, we didn't have to struggle to pay for his stay, which was months and months long. when he needed two visits from a nurse at home daily for several weeks, a friend who works for the NHS told us each of these visits costs the NHS in the region of £50. we could never have found £100 every day for that to happen. when my face was bitten by my dog, I needed stitches, and then some cosmetic repair work. if I'd had to pay for that I'd have just had to settle for life with obvious facial scarring instead of the small scratchmarks that few people notice. in a civilised country, individuals shouldn't have to wonder if they can afford to have something treated or not.

I so wish we had nationalized health care in India :( We do have government hospitals which offer subsidized or even free health care to some sects of the society , but their effectiveness and service is way too poor . The private hospitals , which are very efficient with all latest technology , are extremely expensive , way beyond the budget of the ordinary man .. We do have health insurance , but that's all full of crap , and the insurance company always manages to find a way to avoid paying for medical claims. I have heard that the health system of France is the best in the world , followed by UK , where , the best medical facilities are provided by the government . I wish we have such a system here in India , will help save a lot of lives . Cheers :)
