As many of you already know, my son had a spinal fusion done the 19th of March. It went very well and we came home the 25th. The first we were admitted again due to an infection. They went in on the 2nd and washed out the wound and found the infection to be around the cathater to his baclofen pump. The baclofen pump is used to take away his tone, as he has too much muscle tone. On the 3rd we had another surgery to remove the baclofen pump and to again wash out the wound. For 3 days he was in great pain, he was having constant charlie horses in his legs due to taking out the pump. They can give him the oral medicine, but we will not get the results we do from the pump. We were released the 11th, and are still having issues with fevers. His fevers just go up and down quite frequently. Please keep praying that this is not another set back for him. I am glad to be home but a very scared mom at this point.

Hi Thoroughrob~I'm so sorry to hear that you have been having all this trouble. I know that sometimes these things do happen with surgeries so don't get too discouraged. I just feel badly for your son. He has been through so much! I will keep praying for him that he will be better soon and you get good news about the surgery results. I know that you are worried, but you just have to continue to be patient. We are all pulling for him! Hang in there. He is in my thoughts and prayers and so are you! Hugs, Opal/Leslie

Thanks so much! It has been so discouraging and nerve racking. I am at this point having a problem seeing the up side to this. I just look at him and wonder if we should have just let him be. Hopefully we start seeing the upside to this soon.

How awful for you both. and of course prayers and energies come to you both so you can get through this. Back operations are bad as it is then to get an infection to awaful. With my sons operation he has stayed in pain and the docs cant find out why. Sent him back to work and now work has let him go.

Your son and your family are in my prayers. Bless his heart, I will be praying that once the baclofen pump is put back in that he won't get any more infections. Can they give him the oral medication while they are waiting for the infection to heal up? So he won't be in any pain, especially with charlie horses. Fevers are no fun walk in the park, I will be praying that his temp. returns to normal and stays that way. Please keep us all at Mylot updated on how things are going.

They are giving him oral meds. We are not sure if we will have the pump put back in. It is probable that we would run into the same problem, something to do with the hardware going in the same place. Thanks for the prayers.

If he's doing good on the oral meds and he's not in any more pain, maybe the pump can wait til he gets stronger. I understand you said the oral meds are slow, but maybe with prayer and faith it will go much faster and he can be healthier. No need for the thanks for prayers, that is what fellow my lot family members are for. Not all of us might be religious, but we have one thing in common. We want your little boy to be healthy again. So he will be in our thoughts and prayers until you say we can stop praying and thinking of him.

His temp is going up and down like a yo yo. It has been as high as 101.5 and goes down to normal fairly fast. They said it could be a reaction to the shock is body is going through. I just hope they are right. We go to the doctor tomorrow.

Any catheter is a potential source for infection. I know that the pump was really a great boon, but I also know how worrisome it can be to be constantly battling infections.

I can imagine how hard this must be for you, Thoroughrob, and rest assured that I will continue in prayer for your son. I went through a similar ordeal when I broke my ankle many years ago. Because I was allergic to codeine my surgeon told me that all of the best pain medicine was not available for me, so I had to settle. On the bright side, your son is young, and that gives him an edge when it comes to healing. Glad you're back home.

I've had you and your son on my mind so heavily lately that I was really getting worried because we haven't heard from you but hey, I do understand though. Having been through a traumatic year last year with my mom, as you remember, so I do understand. I will keep praying for a quick healing and that the pain subsides soon. Bless your hearts! You all have really been put through the wringer!

I haven't had much time to catch up on here or the computer in general. The only reason I am now, is I am trying to stay awake to give him his Antibiotics through an IV at midnight. I usually try to nap in the afternoon, as I have to get up and give him another at 5:30. I will try to get caught up a little soon.
