I love clothes. But i like simple straight forward dresses with not much frill ..I normally wear salwar kameez or trousers with long tops for everyday wear or cotton Sarees now during summer, but like to dress up for special occasions.Though I love evening gowns a lot and feel that they look gorgeous on women, i have worn it only once. I feel that when a person has the figure and the right attitude to carry it off , there is nothing like it. My daughters wear it for special occasions and it looks lovely. I stick to a Sarees for special occasion with some jewelery..
How about you all ? what is your choice in dressing for everyday wear and special occasions?

I have a passion for sarees and I used to buy them like crazy.Only now, wisdom is dawning on me thatI have to reduce this because of lack of space.Let me see how far I would be able to keep the resolve.Though I buy sarees I am seen in a housecoat when noone else is around --my husband calls it a big ungainly sack but when it is summer I do it; In Mumbai I do it during monsoon also ;and because this time the winter was also not cold I did it.
If there is some visitor I would immediately rush and change into a saree.[earlier this big sack was meant only for the night but now it is getting hotter and hotter and I tend to sweat much more than usual. So, what can I do?
If I have to step out of the house I wear only a saree.I bought myself one chudithar when I ahd been on a trip to the mountains becasue htis would enable me walk better but now it is lying untouched in the cupboard. So much for my story.[sorry I just get on to storytelling !

But normally I have a good eye for sarees and my purchases have been extolled by a connoisseur[an old lady /mil's sister who is a stunner and who wears gorgeous sarees]

Hi kala, thanks a lot for an interesting post- guess what i am the same when it comes to housecoats. If i am not going out for the day, i carry on wearing my housecoat all day, feel most comfortable wearing it.I love sarees and i too buy sarees whenever i come across it. I love crisp well starched Cottons and silks, esp Khadi silks and raw silks. Whenever there is an exhibition of handloom sarees i never miss it, go and buy one or two sarees. But nowadays I have cut down on buying sarees frequently, because I am wearing more of salwar kameez , since i am walking everywhere, even for making daily purchases, and saree becomes a little too cumbersome ..But i never miss a chance to wear a saree

Hi! Kiran!
I feel that your discussion is directed towards women and you wish to know what they like to wear and why
yet I am intruding in the discussion. I appreciate your choice of wearing Sari for special occasion and I understand that there is no substitute of Sari. It looks so elegant and graceful and it can make look a thin person healthy and its vice versa. My better half mostly wear salwar kameez, as she is slim and she feel convenient wearing it, specially when going to her office.

Hey Deepak! Kiran has directed this to all. There is a variety in men's clothes too--you can wear trousers, kurta pyjama, bermuda, dhoti [there are different varieties in this too namely there is one pundit like dhoti [I don't know how to say it in English] worn by people during special rituals and there is an informal way of wearing dhoti. And you can also write what would be your choice for weddings and special occasions--like a safari suit or that sherwani [??--I don't know what this is--these actors and CNBC personalities wear these on Muhurat trading days! etc;;,]
So, Kiran is not partial to women here !

Hey Kala!
Thanks for the encouragement (it appears that you have some secret deal with Kiran and you can comment on her behalf.......
). Yes, you are right trousers and kurta payjama are my favourites at home. LOL! I do not wear punditji like Dhoti (I do not know how to tie the same). Formals are worn in office and for the special occasions there are Safari suits and warm suits for the winter with a tie. I have not tried Sherwani, because I am not vey tall.
Kala! Do you think that on special occasions, others notice about our attire, I believe they donot, everyone is busy in himself and wants to show his dress to others.

Hi Kiran,
I prefer to wear salwar/churidhar kameez regularly. Everyday I am in a hurry to reach office so it is easy to wear. I love to wear sari but due to lack of time I am not wearing the same at office. But on special occasions I prefer to wear sari. I am good in sari (as others told me, lol). I like simple dress.

Hi Srrekala, yes i agree wearing a sari and then managing it takes a bit of effort, and that is the reason i too wear dresses mostly while i have to go out for work, and walks. But as you say nothing to beat a saree for special occasions- Hi sreekala why not u/l a pic of you in a saree, thats if you dont mind

I prefer wearing jeans and comfortable tops everyday - I don't mind blouse or polo shirts or short sleeved polo going to work. Then for special occasions, I prefer wearing a dress if I could :) I think it's good to wear dresses once in a while because it's very different from what I normally wear.
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I am quite boyish so I mostly go for simple shirt and jeans. And I HATE special occasions, by the way!

Oh yeah, but on those special occasions, I don't have to dress up. It's actually the dressing-up part that I hate.

I love to have a good wardrobe.I wear jeans, with a suitable tops, while I am at work or in college.I prefer simple clothes over there. In wedding parties,I prefer wearing Lehengas or gorgeous Salwar suits, with suitable ornaments. I love gowns!! I still now I never get a suitable occasion to wear it.

Hi tuyakiki, thanks a lot for your response. i think gowns are nice to be worn for a New year party or some party that you attend with your friends. salwar kameez is lovely when it is done up in a lot of embroidery and bead work, so also lehengas ..

U know where I live it's only warm or hot throughout the year,so it's a Jeans and a Duke shirt/jersy most of the time,,kurta etc for prayers,

You know , your birthday or even an outing with the family or a close friend can be a special occasion. I too think that jeans and shirt look cool..
