Is it OK if there are occasional water splashes on your microwave oven?

Microwave oven - Is a little water spillage ok?

My microwave oven has a sink and tap a few feet away. So occasionally a few droplets of water splash onto it. Its not much though. Will this damage my microwave oven? Is it dangerous? There is no danger of electrical shocks etc as the water droplets are very few, but I'm just thinking about the microwave function in specific - is it OK?

I think you are okay, just remember to wipe up the spills. Also when I clean the outside of the microwave, I will use a damp cloth and the cleaners I use also contain a little water. It is if it is open that you have to worry, and in any case, the motor of microwave turns off when it is open so really there is no problem.

Hi, pitstop! It is not that bad about it being only a few droplets of water. But just for safety precautions, it is best to move it to an area or section that water can't touch your microwave. I know that my microwave had holes in it near the heating area. It is better to move it to another location where water is not too near.

i donot think a few waterdroplets donot cause any harm but to be on the safer side,i would unplug it,after finishing be sure to wipe the droplets off ,so that it wont cause a rust.

It's not brilliant to get electrical goods wet, but most kitchen appliances are pretty waterproof. Getting it on the plug would be a bad idea though. Probably your biggest problem will be if the microwave is in a steel casing, as it will increase the chance of rust.

The rust aspect is definitely true - I'll cover it when not using it then!

If your Microwave just sits on the counter top, i would unplug it when it is not being used, so if you do get water on it while doing the dishes or whatever in the sink it won't be damaged. You don't want to go out and have to purchase a new one, but i don't think a few water drops on it is going to hurt it a lot but you never know when you just might spill something on it and then it might become damaged so i would just unplug it all the time and anyways your saving on your electric bill.
