If You Were Homeless????

What if something happen and you had to be homeless. Besides warm clothes, food and shelter what else would you want, what is the one thing that you knew you could not live without. I am talking about a "THING" not a person. The one thing that I know I cannot live without is a toothbrush. We went camping a few years back, and me of all people who is very organize and does not forget things I forgot my toothbrush. My husband said I could use his, but even though we share bodily fluids all the time I was not ready to use his toothbrush. The next morning when I woke up not only did I have a bad taste in my mouth, and morning breath I had this coat of film on my teeth, and it felt nasty. I trired to brush with my finger and that got rid of my bad tastes with the toothpaste, but I could not stand it any more, so I got in the truck and drove 61 miles to the nearest town and bought me a toothbrush, and the first gas station I saw. When we camp we camp out in the middle of no-where for many miles away from stores, people, etc. So what about you, what is that ONE THING that you could not live without if you were homeless?

I am in a really bad financial situation at the moment, and the thought of being homeless is always on my mind. To answer your question, I think the use of a bathroom would be the worse for me. I do not eat much, so the lack of food would not be too big of an issue, hopefully it would be during the summer, so the weather would be warm. I need a decent bathroom to do my business and to clean myself up.

Would I sound shallow if I said I would miss my computer? When I went camping for 5 weeks and lived rough back in 2006 I went without my computer for five weeks and I was bored witless! I missed my online friends, I missed making a bit of money and I missed getting emails, stupid isn't it. Just shows how much I take the computer and the internet for granted. It does make you truly appreciate what you do have when suddenly you lose everything. Most of us I guess are guilty of taking everything we have, our home comforts etc for granted.

My laptop without a doubt. With that I can communicate with friends wherever I am and since all of my banking is now online, I have to have Internet access to manage that. It would have to be the laptop, because if I was homeless, I'd not have the PC to get online with.

Sure, if you had a good internet business, you could live in hotels and move around at will and paying no taxes to anyone - a sort of Perpetual Tourist. A new twist on the "homeless" theme.

Ya i'd opt for the toothbrush too but most importantly i would like my cell phone with me. Ya i'm addicted to my cell phone. Not only does it make calls but it connects to the internet too. And if i'd still need something else then i'd take some money with me too so that i can buy that thing the same way you bought your toothbrush.

Since I have asthma, the one thing I probably could not live without is my Inhaler. :)

Me, my husband and our four children lived in a homeless shelter for almost a year. I will say that that was the hardest thing that I have ever went through in my life. The one thing I had to have was paper. Due to the regulations in the shelter where I stayed my husband and I could not live on the same floor, women were separated from the men and women had to be off of the men's floor by 9 every night. We kept a notebook to write back and forth to each other every night just to know what the other was thinking. I also used to write letters to God and poetry. Now that we are out of that situation I sometimes read the letters that we wrote to each other then and it makes me cry.

I am so sorry that you had to experince that and I thankful that you and your family survived and are in a better place now. The paper thing is a great idea, and keeping them and reading them makes you not forget and makes you and your family closer and thankful what you have now. We all need to take a lesson from you and other that have been homeless and be thankful for the things we have and not grip about the things we do not have. Thank you so much for sharing and God Bless!!

If I were homeless : I can imagine all the things that i will have to go through after that. First thing is survival... food, water, shelter. Oh then I get one simple solution, what are friends for? Stay until I get some job and go back to a cheaper place until i make things right

I think that I would have to say the one thing I couldn't live without is water. I know that that is really a necessity anyway but I think that I would really want something like that to quench my thirst and it also helps relieve hunger sometimes.

After a week of not shaving, I don't even feel human anymore, so I'd definitly need to be sure I shaved on a regular basis somehow. Also, I'd want something to save me from being bored... like maybe a library card so I could read books everyday. If it's a really good book, I might finish it in a day, so I'd need a new, interesting book each day.

Oh, at first you I thought you are talking about me loosing my home. I think you are talking about me going out for an outing or some camping. Then it would be a similer situation of being homeless. Never thought like that so, I can't think of one thing I would like to have with me if I am out of my house.

Well, if I will be homeless I would choose to have my laptop with me. My life has been so dependent with this gadget so much. I can't imagine myself losing it. It is quite crazy but it is so true. Haha! A homeless girl has a laptop. Since I am a homeless one I think I need to move on and find a way to survive so I don't have any choice but to sale the thing I wanted most. If I had my money already I can buy the things the I will be needed now. Quite a different scenario.

Homeless is not so horrific if all your loved relatives still around you .for something I think I can live without anything but water.

u think toothbrush is the most important because u have all the other things. Though toothbrush is important but the most important thing i would say it is the bathroom tissue.

The first thing I'd do if I was homeless would be find a place to sleep. Preferably some place secluded where no one could disturb me. I'm thinking of a forest type setting with running water by a creek or river. You could always find drinking water and maybe some fish. You would have to watch yourself and not eat too much fish. You might be able to only eat one a month. You never know how much toxins are in the water. You can always find junk anywhere. You could easily find a pan to heat the water and kill all the bacteria. Combs and lighters are easy to steal. However. I'm sure they are easily bought because they are cheap items. Ramen noodles are very cheap. You could find wild berries in the spring and summer. I know what I'm looking for. Some people might not know what to look for. You could find coins by looking down at the McDonalds drive-thru. People are constantly dropping coins there. However, I doubt I'd want to live like that and a job could easily be found where I could at least feed myself. Being homeless should not even be possible in America. People just need to know how to spend their money. You can find clothes like t-shirt for $9 at K-mart or even cheaper clothes at Goodwill. Finding an apartment would be my main goal.. I would not worry about anything else. Clothing, food, and everything else can easily be obtained with proper money management. People that are homeless need to move. You can't stay in a place in Chicago and expect to make it. Find enough money to get out and find a place where things are less expensive.
