For me, yes.
On the day of a friend's funeral, afterwards I stayed moping about the house. At one point I heard this funny little meow at the back door and found a stray tabby kitten that was too young to have been weaned and really too small to gain access to the dumpster feast that was available... so I fed the little critter. My friend was an animal lover and the cat's fur was a similar color to her hair. Several hours later as a thunderstorm was rolling in I heard the same little "Mew" at the back stoop. I had been left feeling lonely since my friend had passed. I took it as a sign, went outside, scooped up the little fuzzball and gave him a home :)

I used to live in a ground floor apartment and on occasion I would be a little to lazy to take a bag of garbage all the way to the dumpster so I would set it on the balcony until I went out. There was a really ugly little stray digging around in it one day and I shooed it away. It kept coming back and I started to feel really bad for it so I let her in and fed her some cold cuts. After I fed her she got the cutest big round belly and was so affectionate and grateful I decided to keep her. I went and bought all the necessary cat stuff and named her 'Scunge' because she was, well, kinda scungy looking. After a few days her cute little full belly was still very round and we realized that she wasn't so much full as she was heavily pregnant! She had her kittens a few weeks later and I gave two away and kept one.

I have two dogs. Both were "rescued" from the streets. We got our first dog, Athena, when we were driving home. We decided to stop at this road-side watermelon stand. Here came running what looked like a black rat! Ugly!!! So very ugly! The guy who owned the watermelon stand said, "Take her if you want. She's going to be a small dog." (Famous last words!) She really did look like a chihuahua and we didn't think she'd get too big. Well.....it was the simple fact that she was so malnutritioned and wasn't growing. Just a week or so after we brought her home, she began growing...and growing...and growing. She's 9 now and the size of a lab! She's one of the most loving, affectionate, beautiful dogs I've ever had. Our other puppy is just at 10 months old now. I was walking to a shopping center and there was the typical box of puppies sitting outside. There wasn't a single human around! They just left this box of puppies sitting there! I chose our little Solaris because she was the only one of the litter who wasn't moving around or making noise. We took her to the vet right away. Found out she was just a little over 2 wks old and sooooo sick. Poor thing. She's healthy now and growing by leaps and bounds! She's already bigger than Athena and not even a year old yet!

Well you know I have a kinda of weird story how I got my cat. First I recycle cans to make a little extra money every month. I know some people do not like to do this but I say it is worth it. Anyway so I was taking my usually 4 to 5 bags of cans to the junkyard to cash them in. I was waiting for the owner to come to pay me when this little kitten with boogers in his eyes kept walking up to me. Now every since I was young I have always liked or should I say loved animals. Now I picked him up and petted him and did not think much of it.
Well I was still waiting for the owner to pay me and the little guy comes up to me again. I had my mom with me also and I said to her I think this cat is picking me! She said I dont know maybe you should take him. I said well I am not sure this would be a great idea since we live on a budget and all so I put him back down again. Well the owner finally came into the garage and paid me what he owed me for the cans. AS he was paying me the kitten came up to me again! I asked him can I have this kitten he said Sure we have a bunch of them. I took him home and I have had him ever since. He is the most pretty cat and I love him so much.
He reminds me of a cat that I had when I was young and I have taken very good care of him as well. His name is Mocus which is booger in spanish and he is a big part of my family. I loved this discussion and sorry for the long response but I had to share my story.
