The smell of short ribs in barbeque sauce woke me up

Last noght I seasones a large packet of short ribs and then quickly browned them before putting them in my largest slow cooker. I threw in onions and a store bought barbeque sauce and turned it on low before going to bed. The smell woke me up and it was a wonderful smell. I wanted dinner done as my DIL leaves tomorrow and she has a busy day with her twins and saying goodbye to her relatives etc. The ribs were falling off the bone and I tasted a little piece - so good that I ate a whole one right there at the stove. Do you use a slow cooker much and when last did you have short ribs in a barbeque sauce?

I don't use one ever and I have never been much for ribs (I have a dislike of messiness on my fingers) but it sounds delicious!

I've used a crock pot for over thirty years. I love it. The crock pot that is - and the rib that I tasted was delicious. Thanks for responding

Set in my ways, I guess. My mom never used a crock pot so I never got into the idea either!

I have a slow cooker, but I really do not use it all that often. I just never think to use it. I have not been cooking things that would go too well in the crock pot much lately either though. Your short ribs sound really good. I have been looking at ribs the last few times I have been at the store, but I have not gotten any just yet. I might have to know because you are making me want some. Sorry your daughter in law has to leave again already. It must be hard on her having to be away all the time like that. I hope the children don't take her leaving too hard.

I bet you are going to miss them, but it is a very good opportunity for them. I did go out and buy some rib tips this morning when I went to the store. I have had them in the crock pot for about 4 hours now with some BBQ sauce on them. I know I am going to enjoy dinner tonight. Thanks for the idea.

You must try it with the short ribs. Delicious. Re DIL - the twins are with her mothe today which is the norm as I work and she will be leaving this afternoon. They kept saying that she would beback for Ester and she came. Now she told them that she has to go back to work but will be home in simmer (2 months) so they are understanding more now. I don't expect that they will miss her as much as last time when she seemed ot have 'disappeared'. anyway, she will take them back with her when she returns to dubai in th summer. My son wil go for a few weeks to settle them in but will not stay. If you are not employed then a male cannot stay for more than 2 weeks. The reason being, apart from the fact that they should be with their Mommy is that her employers will pay full fees for the twins at the same Intenational school where my DIL works. That is US$50,0000 per year. This will give them a good start in education. I know that they should be with their mother but guess who will be crying?

Oh yes, it helped me too when I had the children home. I still use it a lot. I have two- a small one and a very large one so I just choose the more appropriate one when cooking. I especially like cooking roast pork in it. I then add the potatoes and carrots and onions and apples. I brown the pork first though

oh yes that is so good i cant remember when was the last time i had them like that cooked in slow cooker all night, but your discussion has reminded me that it was one of my late hubby's favorite ways to have them cooked. So sad you dil has to work so far away or whatever causes her to have to leave you all.

she works in dubai so that she could finish her Master's degree and earn US dollars. she will finish next monh so when she comes in tyhe summer she will take them back with her and they will go to Kindergarted, She will not have to pay - she doesn't pay for her apartment or utilities. It all comes in her pay package. It is a matter of money with the economy so bad everywhere. The twins have been with me for over a year - I cn't bear to think that they will leave but I know that it is better for kids to be with their Mommy. she misses them so much and talks to them several times a day - she doesn't have to pay for phone calls either!

I hardly ever use a slow cooker and I don't know why as I love food cooked in one and of course it is very easy to cook food that way. To tell you the truth I can't remember the last time I had short ribs but I can tell you that I absolutely adore them...good idea, I'm going to remember it and make some soon!

I use to use one a lot when I was working. Now I use the oven for many things. It was last summer I believe when I had ribs in bb sauce for the grill but I've had them several times cooked in the oven since then.

I have not had short ribs in barbeque sauce. I have made chili in my slow cooker and also made chicken soup in it. I made stew in it as well, but my husband likes his stew done in the fry pan. He says that his sister could cut up the meat very fine and have it ready in an hour, but for me i have to have the meat falling apart so I would have to have it simmering for three hours or if I had to go someplace, would put it in the slow cooker. The trouble is then there were not that many slow cooker recipes and I have gotten a cookbook but it is for those with a lot of money and lots of ingredients to chose from.

I have not had chilli in years. That would be a good thing for me to try next. I love my slow cooker and also use it for soups etc. I don't like stew ne in a frying pan - I am like you - like it falling apart with tenderness. Go online as ther are lots of cheaper slow cooker recipes now. If I remember the name then I will pm you with it.

Oh my, that sounds very good. You are making me hungry. I have not done either in a long time. The last time I had spare ribs was at Santa Monica College. They were like two dollars and seven cent a piece.

That must have tasted good! I don't cook yet as I only know how to cook a few things, don't have a slowcooker of my own either so that's another reason I don't... lol although maybe not a good one. I haven't had ribs in awhile, they aren't my favorite.

I use my crock pot (slow cooker) about 2-4 times a month! I love it! At this actual moment, I am cooking ham and bean soup with a ham bone simmering in it! I love doing ribs in it too. My favorite thing lately is Pork loin (my personal favorite cut of pork). I got a fabulous deal on one recently that I divided and froze. I brown it on the stove top in a little margarine with a sprinkle of a package of dry onion soup mix, and tranfer it to the crock pot, where I add the rest of the packet. I add some chicken bouillon cubes or stock and a little water (if using cubes)and it turns out delicious! Sometimes I add a can of a cream soup (mushroom or chicken) which makes gravy. very tender. In the oven, I can sometimes overcook pork loin. The crock pot has been fool-proof thus far! yum!

Nice to see you back. You have been away far too long. What a joy! I love pork loin too however I add a little dried or fresh ginger and garlic to the pork. Just stuff it in and the taste is amazing.Use it with the onion soup not the chicken and mushroom one. I use mine to make soup too and had planned on putting in the ham bone this evening! I have two crock pots - different sizes and I regularly use them both. Blessings
