Is Climate Change Partly Man-Made? What Should We/Can We Do About It?

All the talk about greening the economy includes moves toward carbon taxes and fighting greenhouse gasses. That is a lot of political change in a short time on the assumption man-made pollutants cause greenhouse gases and global warming. What do YOU think? Are there policies we need to reverse the trend? Or is this all "hot air" and no proven science at all? Personally I am against the carbon tax but for movement toward alternative sources, avoiding oil drilling in sensitive areas and conservation tax incentives. Your turn, what do you think?

If you look at the worlds history you'll find that the earth has had several climatic shifts. There have been numerous warmer periods & ice ages all ready with temperate periods in between. The earth is just going through her normal cycle. However because of our involvement we're speeding up the ending of the latest temperate period. We should try to lessen our impact but going to extremes to do so isn't good either. Moderation is usually the best option.

I think that we need to do more to save the environment. First we need to start at where we live and do more to not use as much energy etc, also we need to eliminate things that go into landfills, and recycle more. We also need to do more to repair buildings etc instead of building newer ones to replace the older ones. I think that if we were to be taxed it might make people more aware of what they are doing and more frugal and environmentally friendly. I hope that I have answered your question, though I must admit I was a little confused at first.

Whilst it is of course true that the climate shifts periodically the evidence that this particular climate change is, at least, partly man made is overwhelming and accepted by the majority of scientists world-wide. Much supposedly green moves are hokum, hybrid cars for instance, since they require more energy to make are environmentally bad. all the best urban

Climate on earth is cyclical. The question is more whether we have accelerated a warming phase. That can't really be proven. However, in my opinion, no matter whether greenhouse gases and other stuff facilitate climate change or not, we have created a rather poisonous environment for ourselves. It's not healthy to live in and likely is at the root of many diseases we are suffering from. If something can be done to simply create a healthier environment to live in, I'm for it. However, I do realize things like that shouldn't be pushed on people over night. Things like that are costly. I wish government would have focused spending on developing clean energy efficient alternatives decades ago. Like when we had the first oil crisis. We probably would already have affordable energy alternatives in place and other healthier things. Now they want to push it. And our already empty pockets can't quite take it.

While I do believe that the climate is changing and getting warmer, I do not belileve that man is totally responsible for it. As stated above, the earth does go through climate cycles and we are in the midst of a warming cycle. However, I do think it is good stewardship to try to limit greenhouse gas emissions, trying to find alternative energy sources, especially renewable ones, and preventing oil drilling in ecologically sensitive areas. But carbon taxes and "carbon credits" are laughable and rediculous.
