DEPRESSION IS AN ATTITUDE AND PROLONGED DEPRESSION BECOMES A HABIT..PEOPLE THEMSELVES EMBRACE IT AND GIVE ENTRY TO IT RATHER THAN TO EMBARRASE IT AND REJECT IT..THERE IS POWER IN EVERY SPOKEN WORD....JUST ASK GOD IN THE NAME OF LORD JESUS CHRIST.IF U DEELY ROOTED IN DEPRESSION..HE WILL LIBERATE U... HE WORE THE CROWN OF THORNS FOR U ON THE CROSS....HE TOOK THIS PROBLEM ON THE CROSS 2000 YEARS AGO TO UNDERSTAND U AND ME...HE LOVES U THAT IS WHY HE DIED FOR U...HE IS KNOCKING AT THE DOOR OF UR HEART...CALL HIM AND HE WILL REDEEM U,DELIVER U,HEAL U.. HE WILL SEND U ANOTHER HELPER i.e. HOLY SPIRIT TO HELP U... HE PERFECTLY UNDERSTANDS UR PROBLEM

You obviously have not suffered from depression and I hope you never do, it can be debilitating. Depression is not a learned habit. It is a chemical imbalance and mental illness that has been proven by many medical professionals. Is schizophrenia a learned habit? No, it’s a mental illness. Some cases are worse than other. Some people need medications to cope; some people have less severe cases so they are able to just “get over it.” Everyone is different. May be you should ask God to allow you to understand such a sever and sometimes deadly disease before you or someone you love suffers from it.

I wonder if the person who posted this tells people with cancer to "snap out of it" because it's just a habit they haven't learned to kick?

Thank you! No one with severe depression can just "suck it up" and pretend like nothing's wrong.

DEPRESSION IS MORE THAN A LEARNED HABIT....... SOMETIMES....... SOMETIMES (more time than NOT)... IT IS A REAL MEDICAL PROBLEM...... IT IS A CHEMICAL IMBALANCE IN ONE'S BRAIN! NOT ALL DEPRESSION FALLS INTO YOUR CATEGORY OR WHAT YOU THINK DEPRESSION IS.

Actually the simple act of walking every day can help to alleviate some of the symptoms of depression if you really want to try and work through it without medication. This is because clinical depression is a chemical imbalance within the brain - it's NOT a learned habit. And a belief system in a fictional institution can't change how the brain produces chemicals. That's just ignorance. Taking a simple walk each day can help to increase endorphin levels and help to balance out that imbalance within the brain, thus reducing some of the more severe symptoms of depression.

How DARE you suggest that depression is a learned habit? How DARE you suggest that it's pretty much all in people's minds? Do you think people WANT this? Newsflash, Mandeep: Medicines might be the only way for people with major depression to get any relief. Yes, prayer is good--I'm Catholic, so I do a lot of that--but along with prayer, there is action. For you to suggest that depression is all someone's fault because they haven't embraced Jesus is not only irresponsible, but extremely ignorant as well.

God is there for you to help you, but you have to help yourself for him to meet you half way. Also God did not give you depression, and therefore he will not remove your depression. He gave us free will and gave us the intelligence to help heal each other through medicines, through therapy, and through ourselves. Certain types of depression is caused my brain malfunctions, not all your neurons, and serotonin levels are not right, they are born this way. Therefore they cannot just ask God to take it away. If that is so then why are there innocent babies, and children that suffer from horrific dieases and God does not take their pain and suffering away, and these babies and children are not old enough to ask for God to take it away, but we do as Chrtistians ask for God's guidence and he helps us seek the right path of treatment with medications and therapy to help us. That is how God helps, he helps you by guiding you the right way to help. There are some depressions that you can not ever get rid of but with help, medication, and therapy you can learn to live with it, learn to live a normal life. God does not let us suffer from anything that we cannot handle, and with his love and guidence you can surpass anything. In the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit they will guide you in all the right directtions if you ask, seek, and listen.

Yes, you are right depression lies in attitude. If we can improve our attitude then surely we can deal with depression more easily. It is just way of thinking towards particilar thing.

Mandeep- For starters, a subtle piece of advise, please do not write in all capital letters that denotes yelling. Secondly, though I very much believe in meditation, alternative medicines, and wholistic approaches I know that depression is very real. I'm for starting with the non-medication route, but I am a supporter of that being therapy if needed. Sometimes we just need someone "real" to speak with. I'm sorry, but in my years when I was a Christian Jesus never appeared before me to help me through the tough times or give me a real answer. For more serious clinical depressions I'm a supporter of medication. Medication doesn't even always mean lifetime, some people only need for a short period of time while they are going through a stressful time period so that their body can help itself. Stress does horrible things to the body, and sometimes it just needs the time to heal and medications offer that ability. Namaste-Anora

Whoa there buddy. Religion is good for some things, but depression is a mental illness. No amount of praying will cure a chemical imbalance. This is why I believe that science and religion do NOT mix! Depression sucks! I can speak from first hand experience. Maybe religion helps some people, but it is not anything that anyone would choose or "embrace" as you say. I absolutely, 100% disagree!

It is possible to take the problem of depression into your own hands. True a higher power helps to enable us. But for those who have not embraced a higher power, it is possible for them to pull themselves out of the depths of depression. Eating healthy, exercising, watching comedies, and reaching out to friends and family can be effective. There is also St. John's wart. Peace to all. And have a blessed day.
