Do you prefer using the elevator or taking the stairs when going one or two floors up or down? I realize that it's not a big deal to actually use the stairs instead if one is only going one floor up or one floor down. And I know that most of the time, it's only either that the person is lazy or he/she doesn't want to sweat so he/she would prefer the elevator instead. What do you do? Do you take the elevator, or the stairs?

Hey oyenkai! If I only have to go up a flight or two and I have a choice of using the stairs or and elevator you can be sure that I will choose the stairs! I hate using elevators to begin with! I do have a bad knee, but I still would much rather use the stairs. It is good exercise and I would prefer to get the extra walking if possible! To me there is no reason to go in an elevator for one or two flights!

In my previous job, our office was located in the third floor and in the morning, only the freight elevators are open and employees are not allowed to use it. I think this is just unfair and even stupid that they would force everybody to take the stairs -- I don't mind exercising, I just don't like it when people would tell me when and how to do it. Obviously, I prefer taking the elevator.

Hi oyenkai, I never use the elevator in my building. I live on the second floor and i am going out and coming back atleast 2 or 3 times a day sometimes carrying bagfuls of vegetables and groceries , but i never use the elevator unless i am carrying something very heavy and am unable to carry it all the way up...

If I am familiar with the building I will often take the stairs instead of the elevator. But, I have to know the building, because, some buildings do not allow you to access the floors from the stairwell. What I really don't want to do is climb up a few flights of stairs to have to run down them and catch the elevator, that's just annoying.

I prefer using the elevator even if when I go more than two floors up or down.Because I find myself fatter and fatter. I think going stairs is easy and effective way to burn energy.

I prefer taking the stairs because it's a very good exercise for our leg muscles. I don't think two or three flights of stairs is enough to break a sweat or burn calories; however, since most of us have a sedentary style of living these days any activity counts.

If i am not in a hurry i will used stairs as it is a good exercise. I always make that as a good habit but if i am in a hurry i will surely use the elevator. Most of the times i really used the stairs when its only two floors. I think elevator is only useful when your going to a high floor it makes you get there very fast but i believe it still good to use the stairs for exercise.

Usually, I take the stairs. I currently live in a 5-storey building and my unit is on the 4th floor. I used to go up and down from the 6th floor when I was in my grade school and university so I am used to it. Stair climbing is also a good form of exercise, its like brisk walking. My mother and sister always use the elevator and they are both fat.

Hi oyenkai I would prefer only the stairs. The reason is very simple. You are not wasting your time ,waiting for the lift. Secondly, you will be healthy if you walk. Specially people with overweight problems must use stairs. Happy mylotting

It depends on my mood. Most of the time I use stairs when I need to go down and use elevators when I need to go up. At times I think I should not use elevators when I need to go only one floor up. But when in office my office mets used to push me to the elevator for only one or two floors also!

use the stairs,it is not that far and hard to walk down or up the two floors,I'd prefer walking if it's only 4 floors or less,I even climbed a 14 floors up last year.

Oyenkai- If I am not with my husband I take the stairs, and we live on the third floor of our apartment. My husband is a disabled Vet so we often take the elevator when together because he just can't do the stairs anymore, though he does try to push himself to use them. Namaste-Anora

For me, I'd rather to use the stairs if going up or down of at least 2 floors. Sometimes we even use the stairs in going up to 4 floors especially when we are going to hospitals, the elevator is crowded so we use the stairs. (but when you are not feeling well or have some ankle problems or joint problems, better to use the elevators). Using stairs is a type of exercise and it can increase our metabolism and it is good for the heart. If there's nothing to hurry about just use the stairs.

I will normally use the stairs. To me it takes longer just waiting for the elevator to come down and what not than it is to climb a couple flights of stairs. Plus, its just an inconvience for anyone trying to get to a higher floor having to wait for you to get out and what not. But if I can't find the stairs (and someplaces they seem to hide them) then I'm just going to take the elevator - or if I have a ton of stuff with me.

i prefer using the stairs because i don't get to exercise often so using the stairs is helpful for me. if i have to walk a mile, then i will. i am doing a lot of sitting at work, and stretching those muscles will aid me from getting sick.

If it were just one or two floors, I'd take the steps. Sometimes, it faster to take the steps than wait for the elevator. It is also good for toning the muscles.

I use the elevator if I'm in a hurry and it's opened the moment I need it. However, I remember when I was in College, when I'm early in school I would prefer climbing to the 7th floor, for me it's exercise, which I barely do when I was studying. I don't sweat a lot though, cause I walk slower and breathe effectively. Elevators are still helpful especially for those with health problems. ^-^
