Would you ever get a tattoo?

As a tattoo is generally a symbol or image of some sort that remains on the body forever, would you get one done? I know some people get tattoo's of the name of their lover for example. What would happen if you break up and their name remains on your body?? I have heard they can be removed but is it worth the hassle and pain in the first place?

No I don't like this tattoo idea at all. No matter how beautiful or ugly is the tatto, I don't feel any attraction for them. It is a real waste of time and damaging of body. One can really achive something better for so much hassle and pain. Still I am not against it.....If young generations likes it....let them enjoy it.....

Seeing as you would never actually want one for yourself I think it is quite nice that you are open to other people getting one done. Thanks for responding.

Fair enough. Just thought it might invoke memories of a relationship which no longer exists.

Oh dear. I am guessing he really regrets having it done in the first place?

I have thought about getting a celtic symbol of some type or even a scorpion. I have also thought it would be cool to have a celtic knot bracelet. I have even thought of having some cool dapled tattooing on one of my temples. But, it all comes down to this: I am 57 years youngs. I have never had a tatoo. I have never felt like marking up my body and paying to do so was a good thing.

You are right. It is a very personal thing.

It's a very personal thing isn't it? If it something you want to do you should probably just go for it. As long as you have reasons which justify the action in your own mind and you are happy, then why not? You are not hurting anyone else after all.

from the look of the process of putting it on looks really painful!! but i dont mind the henna kind tattoo..i've tried that and i dont mind it heheh it looks cute but that's how far i can go..:)) no needles for me please. scared of it!

Henna tattoos are completely painless and do rub off after a set period of time (usually 2-4 weeks). In comparison I am sure (even though I have never had one) that a real tattoo is way more painful. Thanks for the response.

Well when I was a teen I gave myself a tattoo. So now I am stuck with something I did when I was a crazy teenager. I hate it and wish I could get it removed. Maybe one day I will.

even though i am a christian, i dont have a problem with people getting a tat. as for me, i wouldnt get one just because i like change too much. i change my style of clothing and jewellry all the time, a tat is so well, forever! also, i am so not a fan of pain! lol!!

Hey there cher913. Thanks a lot for sharing your opinion on this topic. I know what you mean about the 'forever' factor. That's what is most off-putting in my opinion!

Actually, when you go in to get a tatoo, most good tatoo places will try to talk you out of getting a tatoo with a "lover's" name. So so many live to regret that decision that seems so good at the time. A tatoo is permanent. It is currently very popular to get a tatoo that has your child's name in it or one that represents someone that has passed on. Me? No tatoos for me. I don't like pain or needles. I think some of them are cool tho. my girls all have small ones. I do advice that a woman especially .....get one in a discreet and easy to cover area. My oldest daughter got a very pretty one on her arm just above her wrist when she was 18 and working at a convenience store and going back to school after having dropped out. how could she have predicted the turn her life would take. Fast forward...she is now 32 and married with 2 children. She works in a high banking position. That tatoo on her arm has to be covered at all times. She has a collection of very wide bracelets for summer when she wears short sleeves. At 18, I would have laughed if anyone told me that this girl would be working such a professional job. You just never know.

True, and a very interesting story. I guess that is the most frightening thing about a tattoo, the fact that it is permanent. It is quite nice to know that when visiting a tattoist, they do give advice against having a lover's name done as I am sure there are many out there that would not think twice about having their partner's name when they are in the more lustful stages of their relationship with one another.

hi. i once had a henna tattoo just because i am curious but did not really enjoy it because it is not really my thing. somehow it makes me feel dirty. so i don't think i will ever get a permanent tatoo, it is even expensive and painful..don't see the point of having one really, just plain vanity perhaps.
@UK_Shree (3603)

Well I suppose it is a very individual thing to want to have a tattoo done. Some people do it because they want to have a symbol which represents something specific on their bodies and others may indeed be doing it for fashion.

Hi UK_Shree, You are right, the tattoo can be remove but it will be very very painful. Even more pain than you put the tattoo on. If i ever want to Tattoo on my body, i would like to have it on my foot. I would like to have a snake or a rose, that would be cool. But i don't think i will do that because i am so afraid of pain and i don't think my parents will be happy to see a snake tattoo on my foot. lol..

lol, yes I can imagine that most parents wouldn't be too pleased! I have heard having a tattoo is really painful...

I honestly do not like having a tattoo. I find it dirty, hough Visayans find it as very artistic. One thing that makes feel negative about it is the needle used in making tattoos. I think it is not safe to anyone. It may cause harm and will result to a certain illness.
@UK_Shree (3603)

Yes, anyone having a tattoo done should be certain to make sure that they get it done where the tattooist is very strict about performing tattooing in the most hygienic way possible.

I have a tattoo, and at first I was skeptical about it, but I had nature child birth so I was like. Hey I can do anything. It didnt hurt. I have one on my lower back. A few months back I thought about getting my husband's name on me with some graphics but then I thought what if something happen... So I changed my mind. Even though I want to be with him forever its not promising and you never know what tomorrow brings. I don't want to put something on me that I may have to get removed. Not cool and No I don't think it is worth it. I do however want to get something that represents my children. They are my inspiration :)

Thats lovely and thank you for sharing your experience. I have actually heard that women are much better than men at withstanding the pain of getting a tattoo, especially on the lower back as that is the most painful part of the body to get a tattoo. Good luck with picking something out to symbolise your children.

OW.. I would like to have one in my body.. but... I dont know the "rules" in my Religion, coz, Im moslem and its not good to get a tattoo in your body especialy in part of body that must be "watering" on Wudhu ritual such hand fingers till elbow, foot fingers tillankle... But i love to get My name tattoo on my back

I have heard that tattoos are forbidden in islam. But I suppose it depends on your own personal beliefs whether or not you decide to have one done.

Well, I honestly think I would never get a tattoo, just for the fact that I don't want to mess up the way my body originally looks, even though the tattoo can be removed but why go into all that process as you've said. Tattooing my girl friend's name on my body is pointless to be honest, if I really loved her that much, then I will be better off marrying her than just tattooing her name on my body. That's my opinion..thanks for a great subject. Bilal K.
@UK_Shree (3603)

Hi there bilalk, that is quite a strong opinion you have there. I do feel a similar way about getting another person's name on your body. I guess it depends on the reasons you are doing it in the first place.

I know some people get tattoo's of the name of their lover which in my opinion is probably THE dumbest thing a person could do..the ONLY names I'd EVER have tattooed on my body is the names of my kids and one of my nicknames... Would I get a tat? Yes and I have 2 small ones but am planning on getting several more done..do i think its for everyone though? No not by any means..Nor do I think its smart to get a tat just because your friends are getting them..but thats just my opinion...
@UK_Shree (3603)

I personally would need to think long and hard about tattooing someone's name onto my body. Yes it is a very personal choice whether or not to have a tattoo and I do not think that anyone is in a position to judge anyone else over it.

hi there, UK_Shree.. I would like to have a tattoo on my back.. I got this one-inch vertical scar on my back a couple of months ago and I've been considering a tattoo to have it fixed. I'm thinking of having just a simple Cross image on it. However, I'm still asking God if it is OK for me to get a tattoo. I actually have had my navel pierced a year ago, before I started being serious about my "spiritual life." But I've been learning that my body isn't my own -- it belongs to God and my life is really just on loan. So, I need to know clearly first if He would agree to having some "ornaments" on the skin that He lent me. happy myLotting!

Hi there dreamleaper17. It's interesting to hear your perspective on this and how your spiritual side dictates whether to have this done. I hope making a decision on this becomes clear to you. Thanks for responding and happy myLotting to you too.

I got mine when I was 19 (young and dumb LOL) and I started regreting it within a few months, but it least its in a place where its not seen unless I want it to be seen. As for putting someones name on your body, I think it's okay if its your kids or a loved one who has passed away, but I don't think I would ever put a lovers name on me because my husband would probably see it and not be too happy LOL.
@UK_Shree (3603)

Lol, thanks a lot for sharing your opinion madasp. I can see what you mean with perhaps putting the name of your child as that is the kind of love and bond that you will feel forever. You didn't give details of where you have your tattoo? I am quite curious

It is not my thing tattoo ,I don't like pain.I know woman do get them done,but what about if you get fed up withit or don't want that name anymore you are stuck with it,there is a woman of sixty who has so many tattoos on her body she will not go on the beach or wear short sleeved blouses ,or back less dresses she hides her self away because of all the tattoos she had when she was younger and really regrets having them done.To have your mans name tattoo on you then he leaves you how awful for your new man to see his name on your body,no not for me.xxx

Thanks for the response suzzy3. I agree with what you said about having someone's name tattooed on your body. How awkward would it be when you are with a new partner??

I don't think people shoud get tattoos I think you body should remain they way it is form the day you were born. You are natuarlly beautiful and why ruin that? You shouldn't have to put a symbol on your body to make a statement. The statement you make is in your heart. This is only my opinion.

First of all, I would never get a lover's name as a tattoo, relationships are unpredictable. But I would be interested in getting a symbol tattooed on me, you know, something that suits me and my personality best. For example, my birth sign is aquarius, if there is a symbol for aquarius, I think it would be pretty cool to have that.
@UK_Shree (3603)

That would probably be so much wiser than getting a lovers name tattooed. There have already been a handful of people that have responded saying that they regret having a lovers name tattooed on their body. Thanks a lot for responding and welcome to myLot!
