My teen daughter has an absolutely lovely singing voice, I could listen to her for hours and not grow weary of it... She has auditions coming up for a local musical, and thing is - she has never had singing lessons nor has she sung for anyone outside the immediate family. For those who have experience, or just knowledge can you give any advice for her? I have heard that she should not eat chocolate, and she should drink water. Any other tips for a clear good voice or tips for singing infront of others? thanks for sharing your experiences and suggestions.

well I'm in ABSOLUTELY no way a singer. but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy trying. here's a site I use and just have a lot of fun with it: http://www.singsnap.com/snap/watchandlisten/featuredrecordings your daughter could use it to build her confidence and get some constructive criticism from others. to get the most feedback from others, she should pick one of the "featured songs" to sing.......they change them every day. here's my song list...........if you're brave enough: http://www.singsnap.com/snap/watchandlisten/recordingsforuser/b3138c1e like I said, I'm not a singer, I'm a bass player. I wish your daughter all the luck.

thank you sconi! that should be fun for her - and like you said good to have an objective ear listening in and critiquing. I reckon I will have to scrounge up some $ for a microphone, hehe.

my daughter (she is 15) sings as well (she sings on our praise team at church and she takes vocals at school. she has been told not to drink milk before singing as it thickens your mucus (ice cream actually makes my asthma worse!). sing in front of the mirror to get over your nervousness. also, you and she should look into a local choir if you are not a member of a church.

thank you for the practical advice, I am sure it will help her. we are members of a Church but our congregation is very small and there is no choir - we just all sing from our pews. Will check to see if there are any local choirs about. :)

leah (our daughter) sings with the church's praise/worship team (we have no choir either).

Wishing your daughter the Best for this musical and hope she gets the part. I would think if she really is talented with singing in time she will be discovered and be able to use that God given talent for sure. I used to sing myself when I was younger, but don't do much of it anymore. I used to sing Solo's etc. and it can be quite nerve wracking for sure.

:) thank you for the encouraging words. The first auditions were tonight, actually, and I think she did really well with the singing - and alright with the acting. We'll see if she gets a call back next week.

If you want her heard and noticed, there's a perfect site for her. What you'd need to do is record 3 demo tracks and create an artist's profile, and she can have many people review her tracks. www.slicethepie.com, check it out, if she is successful, she could be financed by scouts who discover her talents.
