Does anyone here like Appaloosas?

Appaloosa Horse - This is a painting of one that I did a couple of years back.

I don't own one as I am pretty allergic, but I used to ride these types of horses when I was a teen. I think they've got a gentle nature and are very sturdy trail horses. My only complaint is that they are usually fairly small (about 15 hands high) and I am a tall person.

We had a couple of Appaloosas when I was younger. They are beautiful horses. I am not one to ride horses....I have a fear of riding.

Cool. I used to ride appys a lot when I was in high school and college, and almost bought one. But, I am allergic and didn't have a whole lot of money. I have to admit that I have a little fear of horses because I haven't dealt with them very much in the least several years. I feel awkward because what was once natural to me feels strange now. If I decided to get one of my own later on, I probably wouldn't be afraid any more.

I have 8, I am crossing them over with Thoroughbreds, to get bigger horses with the appaloosa temperament, and it is working well. Only thing is you do not always get the appaloosa colour, but I do keep ones asside wich I cross appaloosa with appaloosa only.

Wow, 8! That's great. I almost bought a couple of appys a long time ago. But, I'm glad I didn't as I didn't really have the time or money to care for them as well as my allergies being a problem. One was an appy that was all brown, but had some dark spots were visible under the brown coat. I think he also had some small white spots that were barely visible. Both his parents, though, were appys, I think. He was just a babe. Do the spots show up better as they age?
