on mayweather and the second round:

pardon the repetition: yes, this is about the latest 2-round pacquiao fight. i checked around but nobody had started the discussion i wanted to vent my feelings out in: about floyd mayweather. the only reference i found was aol saying "mayweather should have stayed retired." ricky hatton himself was friendly enough, in my opinion; looking at pacquiao with playful eyes during their promotions. it was floyd mayweather that had me wanting to watch this particular fight (the last pacquiao fight i saw was that of eric morales, where i cried out of pity), and for pacquiao to win this match. (yes, i was still horrified hatton's knock-downs). in fairview, it was freddie roach who had unknowingly sparked the psychological fight. in an interview during their promotions, he was asked--as an afterthought--"how many rounds" to which roach--nonchalantly--replied "three". his ego apparently hurt, mayweather had sentenced pacquiao with two rounds against his man hatton...fully aware that he was talking about the same man who knocked out his golden boy, de la hoya last december. what do you say--the man was actually right! someone should remind roach that he was wrong about the rounds. rejoice and celebrate, philippines! ^_^V p.s.: i just noticed pacquiao looked good (and menacing) in the ring. outside it, though...i could only keep in mind that he is an excellent fighter.

I am still waiting for the replay. I was not able to catch the fight as I have a class. Anyhow, we were not that late on the news as were updated on how the fight went on. My classmate even have a mobile TV, though it was tuned to the local channel. I have no negative comment on mayweather. It is only reasonable that he would root for his man Hatton. Well, regarding Hatton, I pity the guy. I think he may have underestimated Manny. People in the Philippines are accustomed to the hard realities of life. We Filipinos fight to survive. This motivates us. It gives us determination. Even if Pacman has more money than he can ever spend in his lifetime, the same determination still burns in his veins. Add an excellent coach and rigid training to the equation, and you have a lethal combination.

i think hatton is fine. i pity the guy, though, as i have pitied all other fighters that pacquiao knocked out. i am not an avid fan of the sport, too physical for me. but this one is just too funny to let go. heheh.

Did you get to see HBO's 24/7 on Pacquiao and Hatton? Though I'd like to think that Mayweather was just doing some trashtalking to pump up the match, I found him rather boastful. But as a trainer, set aside his punctuality issues, I think he's good... Only Freddie Roach is better.

hahahah..better, that's true. he did come out as boastful. although i understand where he's coming from, i still think that one should boast when one is positive he could deliver. mayweather...well, he dint deliver.

That's the sad reality... Mayweather Sr. didn't deliver. Hey, I was thinking... Maybe... Just maybe, Floyd isn't to be blamed entirely. Ricky Hatton was way too open during the match that's why Manny was able to land that big one on him. In HBO's 24/7, Floyd kept reminding Hatton to, "Raise that arm. Raise that arm!".

yeah, he was surprisingly weak, don't you think? for a boxer with an impressive record, he was way too open and weak for pacquiao. that was almost a mismatch.

Trainers tend to act boastful just to create more tension among fighters... and also for publicity... nobody wants to watch a boring press conference... i must agree that Mayweather was correct in that two round but it was in favor of Pacquiao rather than Hatton... I think they both underestimated the genius in Freddie Roach and the power and determination of Pacquiao to win... Mayweather is indeed a good coach... but he was blindsided about the fact that Hatton never lost a single match before as oppose to the 3 losses of Pacquiao in the past...

man, that was a very embarassing knock out. i guess mayweather was just upset that de la hoya lost to pacquiao. but he was too confident that hatton only lost once. now he lost twice. knocked out twice. and he tends to take his losses seriously. tsktsk.

Mabuhay! Pacquiao made made us proud to be a Filipino. Mayweather Sr. had been very arrogant during the press conferences making uncalled for comment for both Roach and Pacman. But now he has to eat his words and not insult anybody. But even the loss I admired Hatton - even thanking Filipinos before the fight of being a good sport. Just a pity he did not even make a fight and lost early in the second round.

Well it's all part of the promotion and i think the fighters are very much aware of it that's why they're leaving the job to the trainers because they know there's nothing personal about it. Ricky is a cool guy. Why not? He's a stand up comedian. Yeah, i was clapping when he was knocked out in round 2 but i didn't know that he was unconscious. I don't think he should retire since fans love him and he has only two lost. It's still a pretty impressive record. On Mayweather, which one are you talking about, the junior or the senior? Well both of them are loudmouth but the junior has nothing to prove because he's one of the best in boxing. The senior, well he could have slowed down a bit and now people are looking for him to say something. I was wrong about the round too, i was 3 rounds ahead/ ..or late.

The reference about "Mayweather should stay retired" means he shouldn't have arranged a fight against Juan Manual Marquez because he's going to lose to Manny Pacquiao or he won't fight Manny Pacquiao because some say that he has a reputation for choosing a safer fight.

Yeah but he must hurdle a very resilient Juan Manuel Marquez first. It should be a convincing win or else Marquez will whine over a loss. lol! Ricky's a stand up comedian in his place i think.

hey! i didnt know hatton was a stand up comedian...hmn. i understand the publicity part. again, it's just too funny a though, to watch his face when someone brings this up. http://www.fanhouse.com/news/fighting/manny-pacuiao-knocks-out-ricky-hatton/460070?icid=wbml-aim|dl4|link3|http%3A2F%2Fwww.fanhouse.com%2Fnews%2Ffighting%2Fmanny-pacquiao-knocks-out-ricky-hatton%2F460070 p.s.: there had also been talk that mayweather jr was gonna fight pacquiao.

I think a fight by Pacman with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not going to happen this year. Bob Arum will surely milk all possible $$$ he could from Manny before a mega fight with Floyd could take place. Miguel Cotto is a more probable opponent for Pacman later this year (if he wins over Joshua Clottey this June). Both Cotto and Pacman are under Arum's Top Rank promotion, so it makes sense.

I'm really anxious to see Pacquiao shut Floyd Mayweather Jr's mouth. I was struck when Mayweather Jr took Pacquiao for an amateur. I just couldn't imagine the fear coursing through his veins when he said that. It's time someone humbles that proud fighter, and that one would be Manny Pacquiao. I really can't wait.

Well i hope it'll be Marquez when he is 36 years old. lol! I don't think Manny can beat Mayweather at this time because he has a tremendous defensive skill.

Same here. Mayweather Jr has a fight July this year against Juan Manuel Marquez. I'm not sure, but I think Manny will be going against the winner of this bout. Can't wait for MP's next match.

I was not bothered coz Mayweather needs to do it to add spice or hype to the fight. Pacquiao and Roach are not trash talkers, they do their actions into the ring and that's not really the right way to promote a big fight. One of the biggest factors why Floyd Mayweather, Jr and Oscar dela Hoya's fight sells the most PPV is Floyd Jr's mouth and Oscar's reply. It's more of a marketing strategy than reality..

Well, first, congrats to Pacman for making all of as proud once more. I can't say a thing against Roach. As compared to MayWeather Sr, Roach is refined, and even deliver his speeches without bragging. Unlike the former, he was sooooooooooooooo boastful. Have you noticed that Mayweather Sr had a no-show after the fight? Then he comes on interviews telling that Hatton did not follow his instructions. Duh!!! Well, yes, I do pity Hatton, specially when I saw his eyes.

I love Pacquiao and Mayweather. They are both real good fighters. Mayweather's cockiness may get on others nerves, but they have to understand he earned his title and most of the time backed up what he said. I really hate I missed that fight. I had to work but my husband told me all about it and it will come on again within the next two weeks. I am really looking forward to seeing it.

I was actually neutral in this boxing competition. I could not predict who will win. Ricky was a worthy foe, I thought to myself, for he was the world's no.two greatest in boxing, as most people said. Pacquiao was also very competitive and driven. I was shocked to learn that Pacquio had knocked out Ricky in just two rounds. I still cannot believe it. The world's no.2 was knocked out in just two measly rounds which lasted for a few minutes only?!Maybe Pacquiao is ready to fight Mayweather Jr. already.

yeah, i wanted pacquiao to win, but i wasn't sure about it. with hatton's record, it does well not to underestimate him. his weakness was surprising (yes, he even looks very weak during the fight. i was stressed with the blows he had to go through, and i pity him. but i am more happy because he was knocked out and, by extension, mayweather sr too. hahahah

Boasting runs in Mayweather's blood. Even his son Floyd Mayweather Jr went on to say he is still the pound per pound king. He even announced that he is out of retirement and would fight Marquez on July on the morning Manny would fight Ricky Hatton. Coach Roach said later on that he thinks Floyd Mayweather Jr. is afraid of Manny because all he had to do is wait for one day but instead chose to fight Marquez. The bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez is even entitled as Number one/Numero Uno (mostly because of golden boy promotions ego too) Well if the Mayweather's are not that type boxing can be a little dull to. So let them talk and bring on the Hype but of course in the end skills and talent always prevail. I hope Floyd Mayweather Jr. would not avoid the fight with Manny PAcquiao and be a fight worth watching.

As they say, "a tin can is noisy when its empty"... We'll see if he's telling the truth. I do feel nervous every time Pacquiao fights, I have great faith that he always do his best, Freddie knows so much that we don't, sometimes I do fear Manny's beginning to become a pawn in this game. I just pray he retire before his strength begins to fail him but not until he shows the same fate to that mayweather.
