They say reading book while laying on bed is harmful to our eyes its causes strain to our eyes, i do not care for it, i am habituated to it most often i do read books while going to sleep on bed. I read different types of books like spiritual, inspirational and biography of great man but i do not like to read comic story etc. I do not know how many of us follow this restrict themselves from reading while they really want to read. Do you read books following doctors guidelines or who care just does what you like.

Wow bed is my favorite place to read. There is nothing better than piling up a million pillows and getting snug as a bug and then pulling out a good book.

well , it really is a bed habit , you should correct it , for your health and eyes , you could choose read on the desk or under the lamp , or sometimes you could oudsite to read , but avoid under the sunshine , because that's to danger for your eyes . to dazzle , oh terrible , protect your eyes and health , that's more important .

Reading a book while sleeping? I wish that was possible. When I was at university I often put a required textbook under my pillow but the contents did not transfer themselves into my brain. Hehehe. Seriously though I often read in bed. I think that it is an old wives tale that it causes strain to the eyes. Sometimes I fall asleep while reading and wake up later only to find my book or my glasses have falleen to the floor or gotten lost. I read all sorts of books too. Biographies, history, nature, crime and mystery novels.

Hello netmoney24, I think reading while laying on the bed is the most comfortable act. I love to do that too. When I was younger, I used to read book while laying until I fell asleep - that's the worst thing that I tried to avoid when I start reading; to fall asleep . I don't know that it will cause harm and thanks for the info.

This may be true but I've also read that your brain can absorb and process the information that you just read better when you read right before you go to sleep. Something along those lines but I also enjoy reading before I go to sleep it helps me to get sleepier and I just love to read so I like to fit in some reading whenever I can.

I used to read while laying down in my bed quite a lot. But with age I grew to need reading glasses. I wear transition lenses and now I no longer enjoy reading while laying down. My head/eyes need to be angled at the page just right or most of the words appear blurry. Now I prefer to prop myself up to a sitting position in order to hold the book right in front of me.

Wow, I've never heard of that one before. But I have heard that if you read with dim or little light that it can be harmful for your eyes. I do read in bed but I always have a bright lamp right above me as I read . I think as long as we read with a good light source we should be ok.I also sometimes use the small book lights when my husband is sleeping next to me. I can't stop reading in bed just because some doctor says it's bad. I know many people who read in bed and they are alright and not suffering anything bad physically or have eye problems because of reading in bed.

My mom used to tell me that I should not be reading while lying on bed. But not for eye-care reason. Back then in the province, we use kerosene lamps for lights and reading while lying in bed can cause fire accidents. When we finally had the electricity though, they can't stop me from reading in bed. I don't see any reason why it will hurt my eyes if I have sufficient light. I am comfortable and can read more while slugging in bed. And I purposely do such to lull myself to sleep.

The posture in which we read that important, the best posture for reading is sitting straight but while we read books on bed that may be comfortable for us but not for our eyes.

Well I am one of those people that almost always, read before I go to bed. I also love reading on my bed when there is no one home, I find that it is one of the most relaxing things that I can do. I have never heard that this causes harm to your eyes, although I have heard that reading without proper lighting can cause problems. I find that a small bedside lamp provides more than enough light so I think that you should be fine. If this is something that really troubles you, you might want to ask for your doctors advice. I hope that you are able to continue reading your books, happy mylotting.

I guess I am doing it all wrong then! I have it set up so that my coffee pot is next to my bed so that in the mornings, I just prop myself up and grab my coffee and read! It's been my habit of many years to read in the mornings, although I did not usually read in the bed! I also like to finish my day with a good read also. It is a way for me to unwind and begin the resting process. It slows my body down and soon my mind follows. (or that's the plan at least!) So yes, I do read in bed!

I think i believe on that, because even on textbooks, it is also not advisable to read while lying. But i can really help myself to disobey that rule. Reading while lying is somewhat relaxing, you cannot feel any back pains at all or any neck hassles. The truth is, people really do love to do what is harmful, since all bad things are pretty nice to do. That's why we intend to disobey rather than obey.

Hi netmoney, I have no idea whether that is bad for the eyes. I can't imagine why reading in certain postures will spoil your eyesight (assuming you have sufficient lighting). But when lying on the bed, sometimes we might hurt our back and arms and wrists for instance if we get careless. Reading on the bed is what I normally do... I haven't found any IDEAL posture though... I need to change any posture after a while as it will get uncomfortable after too long - and I usually read more than a few pages at a single stretch. I have no idea about doctors' guidelines so I just do it "my way".

Whenever my aunt caught me reading while lying in bed,she would immediately approach me with an angry tone. She always reminds us that we should sit properly with good lights while reading. We shouldn't do the opposite because it is harmful in the eye.She also scare us that we will be using eye glasses in an early age. At that time,we follow her and now,non of us has to wear an eye glasses. Anyways,My aunt is a school principal, but before that she was a science teacher.

That saying may be true and i've seen it somewhere, it does really have scientific proof for it. After knowing it, i stopped myself from reading while laying on bed. We have to take good care of our eyes, as it's not recoverable once hurt. I felt so lucky that i do not need to wear specs until now, compared to many of my friends around. By the way, i do agree that reading while laying on bed is a really nice and relaxing thing to do, though it's not good for health, haha.
