There are so many movies released every year around the world. And for people like us there are options of languages galore. Movies from our local languages, our national languages and English. This case is valid for so many people around the world. With so much of choice made available to you what and how do you choose the movie you want see. Do you decide by the cast. Or wait till you get to know the story or at least its outline. Or go for the movie based on its promos? Or is it something else. Books maybe. You have read and liked the books on which the movie may have been based. What affects your choice.

my first choice is the story itself~~~well, if there is my favourite actors or actress in the cast that will be more attractive!

Usually the promo but I will wait to hear what others say, people who have the same tastes as me. If they like it, I will go to see it, otherwise, I will wait until it is on tv.

I just choose my the movies on it's cast.I never miss movies of actors like MelGibson,Denzel Washington,Jene Hackman and Tommy Lees Jones to name a few few. These giants have never disappointed me.Secondly I go on the themes. If it is a murder mystery or court room drama then it is my cup of tea.I just never miss the movies based on the good books I have read too.

Yes.one example is The God father.Never a movie has done such a great justice to the book on which it is based upon.Watching the Godfather is as good as reading the book. These kind of experiences seldom comes.

I agree. But Harry potter is the worst adaptation of the book. Though the casting is very perfect.

It is always the story. I can like a star but if they are in a film with a plot that I don't like, I won't see it.I will hope many others do so the star I like gets a good rating but it isn't for me, Usually it is the "romantic" comedies. i hate them so if a star I like was in one i wouldn't see it.But if I see a film with a great plot and it is casted with All un knowns, I will watch it.Life is too short to see a film you are not interested in.

I totally agree. It is a complete waste of time to watch a movie where you come out of cinema hall feeling Why did I see the movie.

Many years ago I would see two film critiques who would say this phrase when they saw a really bad film." Two hours , gone I'll never get them back."

Ah a very famous phrase. Well I am not sure of the waste of time but badly made movies are a torture to the brain.

I would say cast. I normally be more motivated to watch my favourite actor and actresses and usually I will go to their movies as I am impressed with their acting the movie before. I like actors like Leonardo Dicaprio, Russell Crowe, Keanu Reeves and Edward Norton and Matt Damon. Their acting is always real and they always make you forget that they are actually rich people. I love the way they potray their characters and the intensity in their acting is what I look for in their movies.

Maybe. These people are great actors. But every actor has a bad day or a bad movie. Isnt it.

Yes but I will still go for the cast rather than the promos or movie itself. because I love meaningful movies rather than the usual ones.

It is true in some cases but just because the promo is good doesn't mean the movie is good too!

Good question! For me, I guess it's primarily the cast. I trust certain actors to do good work and only mess with the best of movie. Also, I guesss id it has an intriguing plot or something that looks like it won't bore me then I want to see it. I am very persuaded by previews I will admit. Certain types of movies I prefer more and catch my interest more like action and comedy. Scifi, chick flics, dramas, are less likely to get my attention. I just get too bored during movies too easily. Book based movies actually repel me; I am very anti movies that were books. I think it ruins the idea I created in my mind about the book and it's world in my mind. Very rarely does a movie do a book justice.

That is very true..I have missed out on a lot of good movies too by prejudging the cast and wasted my time on others.

At times It happens that the cast makes a bad choice and a disgusting movie is made. Sometimes there is this image of an actor. This makes a disaster of a good story. Cast a good one at it adds to the good story, doesnt make one.

All of the things you listed can and have affected my choices of what movies to see but I'd say more often than not it's the cast. Sometimes a movie with an unknown cast will appeal to me based on the storyline but there are some actors whose movies are always "must see" for me. Annie

Hi there anuraa32! I would definitely watch a movie because of the story. I would definitely be willing to pay extra for a beautiful story. The actors and/or actresses are secondary. I have seen movies that star my favorite actors and actresses and yet was not really satisfied. I saw some movies that I just wanted to compare with the book version. An example of this is DaVinci Code.

the one thing that draws me to watch a movie is its plot and storyline i get bored if the storyline has no meaning and therefore i dont want to watch it. back the I really didn't pay attention to this stuff but now I'm very picky bout the movies i watch now. I had an experience of watching a movie I had no idea about i just saw a poster and thought it might be something like jaws it turned out to be the worst movie i've ever watched it rarely had a dialog and they got eaten by sharks the videocam was always shaky it was like an amateur i had no idea why they had it shown in a theatre.

In the first instance, the story would attract me, followed by the genre, then the cast. I have my favourite actors, but if the story didn't appeal or it was in a genre I didn't like, I'd miss that movie. For instance, I like Meryl Streep, but I wouldn't watch her in a horror or science fiction movie, because they don't float my boat. If a movie comes out of a book I've read and enjoyed, I'll always watch it, although I usually end up preferring the book. And I look out for new Shakespeare adaptations, as they always appeal. My favourite genres are comedy, thriller and detective, although I try to approach all movies in the spirit of 'I wonder if I'd like that?' as opposed to 'I'm sure I wouldn't like that.'

I think I'm more likely to pay attention to a movie based on the story and not necesarily the actor. I watch the promos first to see if its wortwhile or a waste of time and my money. Recently good actors are really making awful films at the minute so I much prefer the lesser known actors as they tend to make the story more interesting..

You have a point with the lesser known actors making the movie better. At times a really well known actor can spoil the ambience of the movie with his fame.

usually the caste and the promos, cuz u cant tell the story till u actually watch it or ur friend tell u the story, but then your friend would also tell you how good or bad the moviee was

I usually dont go to see it first day first show so I come to know the story through reviews. And there are many movies which have a site dedicated to them and they give brief info on the cast, story, music etc.

What draws me to a movie is the cast, story line. Mainly the story line. I love a good story line. My favorite type of movie is drama. I also like adventure, and action-packed

I am active in forum movies. Usually I'll look on the response of the person in forum after they watch the movie, how they rated it and how they reviewed it. After many person says good, then I'll go watch the movie, If many says bad, then just leave the movie.

The movie trailer is what initially draws me into a movie. If the trailer is good it piques my interest enough for me to keep an eye out for news about the movie. And if the star of the movie is one of my favorites, the odds are higher I will see the movie. Usually not in the movie theater, but I would most likely rent it.

For me, it has to be the promotion. Without the promotion, I would not have know there is a movie out there. It is only after watching the movie that I decide if the movie is worth watching. At times, the cast, story or reviews does help in my deciding to watch a movie.

I like to watch the famous director's movie, in China, such as Yimou Zhang, Kaige Chen, Jin Xie, Jiawei Wang and so on. I think the famous directors produced many classical movies. Some movies are acted by many fanous actors and actresses and directed by famous directors. I am also attracted by these movies. When a movie wins the Academy Award, I will watch it soon. All of above factors affect my choice to watch movies.
