I live near a Nature Center. About 3/4 mile away from my front door. The walk there is okay for me and other adults but not my grandkids or other kids. It is on a major County Highway with speeds of 50MPH and no walkway. So the Nature Center got the funds and is building a mile long boardwalk for pedestrians to walk and or bike on. It should be done in July or sooner. See attatched photo of part of the trail. Do you have a Nature Center very near you?

Don't get me started on the city. It is nopt the city building it. It is the Nature Center. They got the funds from donations and a grant from the DNR. The trail goes to the train tracks very near my house. Now the city is rrespopnsible to build the trail from the tracks up 3 blocks to the main road but they were not given any funds and won't be dooing this anytime soon dang it. I've called and voiced my opinion many times along this issue.

That is some boardwalk! About 5 times the width that anyone here in the UK would consider building for pedestrians.
I can see from your photo that the road is not safe to walk on (even with a speed limit of 50 mph). These days motorists have no consideration for pedestrians or cyclists. Im my day, we would think nothing of walking or cycling on a road like that (we were taught to always walk facing the traffic and, of course, to cycle on the correct side - which would be on the right for you). Nowadays, I take my life in my hands cycling on the road with the traffic, even though we have cycle lanes which are clearly marked in red tarmac.

Look at the photo in the response below yours that I added in my comment. This is going to be awesome. The wooded areas deep in the Nature center are the same type over wetlands and ponds and creeks as well. The law here states to walk and or bike with traffic. Meaning you go the same directions and lanes etc as the traffic goes.

We have a couple of nature centers around here. I have been to one of them. We also have two caves close by also that you can visit.

I so wish we did have a Nature Center but we dont. The closest that we have is a place about an hour away and it isnt really a nature center but it does have walk-ways and such.
I would love to have something like you guys are getting so that I could take my kids and family and just walk around.

That is incredible that they are building that boardwalk! Such a great idea. This way people can get to the nature center without have to use cars that harm it!
There arent any nature centers near me. But there are tons and tons of parks. There are many old railroad beds in the area. Many of them have been turned into recreation trails. Parks have popped up in various places along the trails over the years. I used to live close enough to walk to the trail. That is the only thing I miss about living in that apartment!
Enjoy your boardwalk when it is finished!

That sounds really cool. The closest nature park to me is about a 40 minute drive away. I used to go there at least once a year on a class trip, from grades 3rd through 10th. It really is beautiful. Creeks, trails...it was a wonderful spot, but I haven't been in years.

The Bruce Trail runs through town, as does the Niagara Escarpment, and there's the Royal Botanical Gardens not too far away. Of course, there's the lake. And Hamilton IS known as the city of waterfalls... there are 125 of 'em! They even have their own website: http://www.cityofwaterfalls.ca/
Nature's all around us.

I have a bog near near me, about 3 miles away. I've never been there, I associate bogs with mosquitoes and snakes (I love snakes) and poison ivy so I haven't had much interest in it. Otherwise, there are no organized nature centers but the cemetery here is a wonderful arboretum with all kinds of trees and flowers.

The boardwalk sounds lovely, GB. I'm not sure what a Nature Centre is, but we have National Parks, which have lovely bushwalks and wilderness areas - maybe it's the same sort of thing. Some of the National Parks have information centres where you can buy wildlife souvenirs, etc. The bushwalks are really lovely, and have special markers along the tracks to follow, and signs giving information about the various trees and animals you encounter along the way.

Hi GRANDPA BOB,
Where we live we are in the country and just 20 minutes walk we can be in the nature walk and in the thick of the wood, on the roads going toward the woods, we have cycle path and walk ways for pedestrians so it is quite safe for cyclist and pedestrains.
