Sick when starting creche?

Hi there, A few weeks ago my daughter started going to creche a few afternoons a week so that she can socialize and play with other kids (she's an only child). She's normally relatively healthy - she does get the odd cold or flu but nothing major. But since she's started she's had almost constant infections - just one after another. I've heard that this is very common when children start creche or nursery. Has anyone else experienced this?

I think it is quite normal also. they are in a new area and are susceptible to alot of new things.

A friend of mine, her son had the problem when he started going to daycare. She returned to work a few hours a day and only 3 days a week. She did it so he could go to daycare and interact with other children around his age. He was so sick for the first 2 months. It was because he hadn't been exposed to all the germs that go along with daycare. My son was an only child and I had consisted daycare but I got into a relationship with a man who has 2 other boys. They are a bit older but it is still social interaction of some form. Once my son and I started staying over at my boyfriends house a few nights a week my son got sick a bit even when the older boys weren't but it only last for about two weeks. Now we all live together so my son gets sick just as much as the older boys but not more then them. It is hard to watch your child be so sick and you feel bad for them because you know you were doing the right thing by putting them in the nursery or daycare. But it is hard for parents to sit by and continue to let their kids go knowing for the first part their baby is going to be sick and feel awful.

Thanks kassdaw for your response. Yes it is so hard to watch them ill all the time, even though you know it's good for them to interact and play with other kids. I'm glad to hear it does get better eventually! Thanks for the reassurance!

I put my son in playgroup almost an year ago. He used to fall ill for about 2 months with cold week after week on weekends. So after a few episodes, doctor told me that he want to put him on antibiotics. I refused. I walked back home and thought about Vit C immunity booster. Then on, he became fine. Always cook food fresh for your child and this will help your child to fight best aginst infections.

Very common, I used to work in childrens nurserys before having my own and I suffered a lot when I first started! Both my girls have gone through it aswell when starting preschool constant colds or illnesses it does get better though my eldest is 5 now and at full time school and she hardly even gets sick now they do get immune to it in the end.
