In the modern fast paced world people dont find time to go take a dictionary and the to look up the word that they dont know. It is very few who are driven by the penchant to expand their vocabulary who end up looking the word in the dictionary. So how many of you out there refer a dictionary and how often do you refer a dictionary ?

For the different roles we play in modern world we use different dictionaries. Like most people, an english-chinese dictionary is indispensable to me. I use it so many times one day that i can't remember the times. Otherwise, i use three kinds of english-chinese dictionaries. Traditional dictionary, e-dictionary and web-dictionary.

I don't even have a dictionary. I didn't buy one for college and instead rely on sites like dictionary.com. I do have a French-English dictionary and a German-English dictionary from studying foreign languages, but that's it. Most of the reading I do now is news and novels, which are easy enough that I don't need to look up any words.

I have many dictionaries in my home, because I like languages very much. My favourite dictinary is Oxford advanced learner's dictionary and I use it to look up words that I don't know. I don't use my English/Danish dictionary very often, but sometimes I need the Danish/English dictionary. My brother usually laugh at me when he sees my dictionaries, he doesn't understand why I don't throw they away and use the online dictionaries instead. I do use online dictionaries sometimes, but I like to use the oldfashioned dictionaries, too. I like to play word games on the computer and I enjoy expanding my vocabulary through the games.

I do. well, especially when i'm reading, i make sure that my pocket dictionary is with me. it's hard to move on if you don't understand a certain word. and poets before use profound words. or if i don't get the word i read again the sentence. plus it's not only that, by looking words that you don't know n the dictionary, you're able to expand you're vocabulary. waa! merry Lotting everyone. :)

I am very poor in english and I joined a communication improved course at a centre but I unable to speak anything there so I started refering dictionary, where I found a lot many words and I started creating sentence by using that words and now I am fluently speaking english just because of this dictionary and also it helps me to understand the sentence so I suggest every body to refer dictionary

Yes, it does, am not a know it all you know. it's very important to have one because my work sometimes deals with teaming up with either Americans or English people to finish the Job. and most of the time i would bring two types ,those with American and English Pronunciation dictionaries.

i refer dictionary when i do not understand the meaning of a word when i am reading my engineering books. Mostly i refer the meanings of words online .Till high school , i was using dictionary , but later on i left that habit. Rarely , once in a week , i refer my dictionary . My dictionary just stays on the table.

All the damn time. Maybe I'm a freak, but I love words. It IS necessary though as I like to think of myself as a writer. I can't see a word I don't know without looking it up. And sometimes I literally read the dictionary. Good times.
