Making an effort to print digital photos

I have around a gazillion photos which are in digital format and have only ever printed out a handful. Do you make an effort to print out your digital pics or do you have too many 'locked' up in electrical land too?

I do have a lot locked up in "electrical land" (I have never heard it put that way, but I like it!). I only print out photos that I plan to frame..some for my desk at work and others for home. I would say that I have about 95% in electrical land. I resorted to online albums. I have most of them on Picassa and some on Webshots and Flickr. For the ones I have on Picassa, I have a public gallery and my private one. I will invite certain people to view albums in my public gallery. Recently I took many photos of my new nephew. I uploaded the best ones to the public online gallery and invited some of my family to view them. Plus they can download the ones they want. So to save money I don't print out most of my photos. I do have a photo printer at home so if I decide to print out a photo I can do it right away. I could print out more on my printer but then I would be buying new ink cartridges often!

Thats a really great idea to have them on an online album. Know what you mean about the printer drinking ink when you want it to print a handful of photos!

Yes 'drinking ink' is my own phrase as my printer will go through cartridges very quickly if I am printing high quality photos.

I don't see that I used the phrase "drinking ink". However that is a good way to put it. My printer does not go through that many cartridges but I know some do. Anyway, I highly recommend Picassa. You can download a program to your computer that will allow you to organize your photos and then easily upload them to your Picassa account online. You get one megabyte of space for free. Unfortunately I have almost used this up and I still have more to upload.

I almost never print my photos. I'm working on printing more to give to family and hang in the apartment. If I need to print a large batch that I plan to put in an album, I use an online service like Snapfish.com so they just get delivered to the house for me.

Actually it's really cheap. Snapfish is 9 cents for a 4x6 print, and shipping is $2. Their other photo products are really reasonable too. There is a lot of competition for online printers right now, so you can find a good deal.

Thanks for the info. I did check out the UK website for snapfish and they do seem reasonable!

That is a good idea getting it printed using an online service. I assume that they are fairly expensive though?

I used to spend a lot of time editing and printing photos, but anymore, I take my digital media to Wal Mart and do it, it is much faster. I would like to get back into doing it at home, as well, because my daughter e mails me photos of my granddaughter.

If I could find somewhere less expensive than printing at home I would do it, especially if it was much quicker. Thanks for the response.

This is a good question and coming to think of it, I do not think I have recently!! Digital camera is an wonderful invention but we are losing the beauty of having hard copies. My sister has a digital photo printer and she makes sure to print out the good shots and preserves them with utmost care. I am very bad it though.

I do also love my digital camera as it means I am endlessly taking valuable pictures whenever I want and not having to worry about the cost of doing so.

I was printing out my own pictures, but I have recently started using Walgreens, since you can get 50 prints for $5. It's cheaper than buying the ink and paper. I normally print out that many every few weeks. I am an avid scrapbooker, so I print them out for that, I also have had several photos printed in 8 x 10 and framed. And some I send to family and to my fiance since we are apart at the moment, and although we email pics, he likes having them in printed form so he doesn't always have to go on his computer to look at them. All the other pics are stored on flash drives, I have 6 which hold around 700 to 800 pics each and they are all full, and that's only a little over a years worth of pics!!

I have several of my pictures printed. I have a scrap book that I am (very, very slowly) working on. So any pictures I want to put in there get printed. I get some printed to give to people. I have even had a few printed in 8x10 to hang on my walls. Other than that, I just leave them as digital copies. What is the purpose of getting them printed if I dont have a specific plan for them? It seems like a waste of money. And then I have to find somewhere to put them! I do make sure I have more than 1 digital copy, though. That way if something happens, I still have my pictures!

One thing I do like a lot about digital pics is that you can have sooooo many taken and then select just the most special ones to get printed. Good luck with the scrap book!

Digital has definitely saved my butt on several occasions! I have taken a few not-so-good pictures before I got the one I wanted! I am so glad the days of hoping your picture will turn out are gone! When I was younger, I remember getting my prints and being really disappointed with some of them!

I know what you mean, I used to be so excited when collecting pictures and then a little deflated when seeing them!

I print the ones I want to give people or for my wife to put in her scrapbooks. I am thinking of getting a digital picture frame to display my personal photos. I am waiting for them to get larger and clearer color. Then I will play them on a slide show. I have noticed that people watch them on my computer when it is in the screen saver mode.

A digital photo frame would be great, but they are so expensive! Thanks for the response.

I don't print them because it's too costly to use my printer. I have a few that I'd like to take to a photo place and have printed but I have a lot of other priorities more pressing than spending my money on photos. I'll keep them on CD for awhile!

I keep meaning to try and find somewhere that can offer me a good deal to get printed, but never seem to get round to it. I usually just print a small selection which are particularly special, but yes it is very expensive.

I don't do a lot of printing. I mostly take photographs so that I can share them online. Currently the only time I print my photos is to enter them in a photo contest or exhibition. Eventually I would like to print out and frame a bunch of my photos and hang them on my walls. Currently I'm living in an apartment and I know I won't be here for very long. Since moving is an absolute pain, I haven't done a lot of decorating because it's just more stuff to move! I plan on getting a house soon, and when I do I will definitely be printing out a lot of my photos to decorate the place with!

Photos certainly can make a place feel much more like a home. Thanks for the response.

Same as you my friend I have countless of photos in digital format and maybe printed 10-20pcs. Those I printed out are the ones I put in frames. One day for the next three years or so, I will spend my day just to printed out those photos. And one week after that, compile them in an album. How i wish I have the time to do such tasks.

Lol, it sure does sound like you have a huge collection of pictures. I think with the advent of the digital cameras most of us take more pics than we have time to look at or sort out.
