this morning because I've been in some serious pain since Saturday night due to my new dentures. I had done everything he told me to do, leave them in for 24 hours which I made it through about 36 hours however, I've rinsed them out and my mouth Saturday morning as told and then wore them all day and Saturday night I knew there was pain when I took them out to be rinsed out and to rinse my mouth out again with warm water and salt but couldn't get the dentures back in. Every time I tried, it brought tears instantly to my eyes and I cringe from the pain and finally had to give up. I was so deg gone frustrated! Angry at myself but then I told myself to calm down because this was expected so I slept most of the early part of the day yesterday (Sunday) just to get my mind off of the pain. Tried to get them in again last night and just couldn't. So hubby called the dentist this morning and they told him to bring me right in in which hubby woke me up and I basically sleepy eyed zoomed to get ready. My dentist saw right away where it was causing me pain so it must've left a pretty good mark for him to see it even though I haven't had the dentures in since Saturday night. He grinded them down quite a bit and now they feel better but I have to leave them out for today and possibly tomorrow till it heals. Then he said that I may have more at time goes by because my gums are shrinking due to the teeth being pulled so to not get frustrated to call them and he'll tell us what to do, whether to come in or order some meds for me.... which ever is needed.
So to all you denture wearers! Have any of you had this problem? How many times did you have to return till they fit right? Did you eventually have to have them relined after your gums finished shrinking? How long does it take before it's done doing that? I'm suppose to get implants in August which will hold the denture in place and not be so loose like it is now and frankly, I can't wait till then because I'll be that much closer to the "finish line" and can eat like normal again.

That sounds terrible! I am glad that your husband is so caring and was helping you out.
I am still young and thankfully have all of my teeth. I have never been super worried about dental hygiene. I do brush my teeth and try to take care of them. But I have never been very worried if something happens. Cavities happen and it is just a part of life, right? Well after reading this, I think I might have to try a little bit harder! That sounds like something I want to put off as long as possible.
I hope your gums quit shrinking soon so that the dentures fit better. I hope that the implants go well so that you can eat all of the foods you love again!

That is so nice of you to say!! Thank you!! I did care for my teeth while I had them but being hereditary, I was already doomed to have bad teeth but at least I got to keep them as long as I did from caring for them and seeing the dentist often. I hope that's what you're doing too because it's the one sure way of knowing how you're doing and keeping the fillings in tact or replaced as they're needed. I did all of that but because mine kept breaking because they were so brittle, it's why I lost most of mine. I only have 8 left on the top and that's it. I'm sure I'll have to get dentures for the top as well soon but hopefully not too soon. I go back on Thursday to get the 15 to 20 stitches out and hopefully then it'll be even better.

15-20 stitches? I cant even imagine!
I am thankful that I have good genetics when it comes to my teeth! Many people seem to think that it is only because of how you take care of them that people lose their teeth. I have a friend who takes better care of her teeth than I do, but she has a lot of problems. I cant even begin to imagine what that is like.
I hope the teeth you have left stay healthy for a long time!

Indeed count your lucky stars sweetie! lol I'm sitting here eating ice cream which was suppose to be a milk shake but my blender blew up on hubby.... those things never do last long, do they? Cost a small fortune but don't last very long. Anyway, I'm eating it to numb my gums, not that I want it but to numb the pain in my gums because I don't want to take a pain killer this early in the evening or I won't sleep tonight. Frustrating sometimes but I do what I can do and gripe about it along the way. lol

I wish I could take your pain away! I'm sorry that you're having such a rough time. I don't have dentures (yet) but I've got a few bridges where I've gotten bad infections that had to be surgically removed (apico) and eventually they took a couple of teeth where the infections kept happening. Some folks are just prone to dental problems, and some of us end up suffering when we don't have the means to get dental care until it's a dire emergency - and even then some of can't go!
My mom has dentures and doesn't seem to have any trouble - I believe they are partials, I don't know if that makes a difference.
I hope some of our compassionate mylotters show up to encourage you and I hope you'll be feeling better soon.

Sweetie, even if you could take the pain from me, I wouldn't give it to you!! No way!! I couldn't do that to my friends! Besides, I'll manage somehow someway. I just rinsed with warm salt water in hopes to boost the healing process and will be doing that a lot throughout the days till Thursday when I go back in to get the stitches removed. Hopefully by then I'll feel some real relief. Come on Thursday!!
lol I had partials too for a few years and now it's full dentures for the bottoms. I'm sure I'll have to get the tops too eventually but I'm holding off for as long as I can. Partials aren't a full set where the ones I have now is but still basically the same thing. My partials did give me trouble at first till my dentist got them to fit right then it was fine after that till another tooth broke and the partials wouldn't sit still anymore.
Isn't life grand?! lol Now I know what you mean when it comes to some who don't have any insurance or the funds to pay. I was one of them at one time and had terrible pain! I went to my dentist, at the time, and he was so generous in helping me but his receptionist and I got into it hot and heavy! She started screaming at me and I looked at her like she had two heads! But I would not back down! I told her I would have to pay in payments and some of it the dentist said he'd not charge me so you had better get with him to see just EXACTLY how I owe! She started in on me again and I just let her have it!! I had been going to him since I was a child and this hoe was new there and she thought she's going to talk to me that way?! HA! She got fooled in a hurry!! lol I told her loud and clear how it was going to be and until then, she need NOT talk to me! I turned and walked right out the door! I had to go back a few more times after that and she was just as nice as she could be but I wouldn't have it. No way!! Because she was being nice only because the dentist had a stern talk with her so she HAD to be nice or else lose her job. I know she was gritting her teeth but damn her! Who the hell did she think she was? King Kong? Damn!
As for everybody on mylot, so far it was just that one and it seems she got it as good as she gave and then some because of some other discussion that she had done, a few had put her @ss in her place in a hurry!! Her words came back to haunt her!! LMBO!! Then her discussion was deleted but she got the message to cool her tracks before she speaks.

You know, that mylotter that you're speaking of, she used to be so nice and all but all of the sudden she switched like a light switch which threw me for a loop! I had to do a double take on her name AND her picture to see if she was the same person and sure enough, she was! I don't know what happened to her. Maybe something snapped inside her head, I don't know but it's strange how one can be this way for a while and then suddenly change without notice but I do know this, I ain't taking her sh!t!!

Good for you standing up for yourself to that fool receptionist!
That obnoxious mylotter also harassed another friend of mine, NOT A GOOD IDEA! Those trolling comments from her were deleted as well. She would do well to learn that you can't just go around insulting and harassing people you know nothing about! If she won't learn it on her own, I will be more than happy to take her to school!

My sister in law went through the same thing with her dentures and my mom can't stand her dentures she says they gag her to much. My sister in law had to have her grinded down twice and my mom once but it wasn't enough so she just leaves them out except for on rare occasions she will suffer through wearing them. Well, I hope all goes well and that you will be eating normal again soon. I haven't heard of implants though to hold dentures in place. Better then having them slide around though.. that happened to my mom when she was trying ot eat at a restaurant once.. she never ate with them again.

She also says they are to long for her since when she moved her mouth back and forth it made the mold to long she still should get them fixed. She looks 10 years younger with them and alot better in my opinion.

Ohhhh your mom shouldn't give up! After all, she paid a pretty penny for them. She really should go back and have them grinded down some more so they won't hurt. They're not suppose to hurt and the dentist can fix that if she'll take the time to go back. Or she could get some sand paper and do it herself since she knows exactly where they're bothering her. I've had to do that with my partials and it does work. Now the implants are best for the bottoms because the they're the ones that don't hold very well. Top ones are really good at holding in place because of the roof of our mouths have a suction type of thing which holds them in place. The bottoms are hell to keep in place so it's why I'm getting the implants. It costs a small fortune ($5200.) but it's well worth it when chances are at my age, I have another half of my life to live, God willing.
Now to tell you something else, a dentist in Arkansas was learning about implants and I was his test pig so to speak and he gave me two implants on top and the only thing that hurt is it going through the gums but it did not hurt one bit when it went into the bone. Strange how that is but it's the truth. I love them and wish I could afford to have that done throughout my mouth but they cost about 5 thousand dollars a tooth!! I got them for free because he was learning how to do it. I needed them because I don't have any back teeth on top. They all broke off over time and had to be removed.

Her dentist can trim it down for her or she could do it herself with sand paper but it would take some scrubbing so I'd tell her to take them to a dentist and they can and will trim them down for her. Dentures cost an arm and a leg so why not get some use out of them but first she'll have to take them to her dentist to have them trimmed down to her liking. Good luck!!

Oh Cats darlin, My heart breaks for you. I am so happy that you have your hubby. I miss mine so much. Its a wonderful feeling that you have someone to protect you and take care of you. I miss that so much. I would probably get brave if he was still here and get some work done. I did manage to go to the dentist last year, they just gave me a script for antibiotics. My hubby had dentures too, he had them since he was in his early 20's, his saliva rotted his teeth. He kept his in all the time, day and night. He wouldn't let me see him wihout his teeth, and we were together for almost 27 yrs.
I have a cute story for you. I think I told you that it was too late to get my cats fixed. One of the cats had her babies yesturday. Then today the other one decided to have her babies. Now both cats are together with their babies in a box under my desk. They have 8 babies together. Its so cute, hopefully in a couple of days I will get some pics of them. I don't want to disturb them too much yet. I don't want them moving them.

Last time somebody counted there were 10 babies. I have been around cats and babies all my life, I was leaving them alone. Others had to peak at them, sure enough the mommas moved them into the closet. they will be fine back in the corner. Its just hard to get to them back there. My cats all think the Christmas tree is their own personal playground. I don't really mind, I just don't put my good stuff on it, I have lots of Christmas stuff that is packed away and only have been using the indestructable stuff. I had read some of the newer comments from that other person, it makes you stop and think. She jumped to conclusions about you without knowing the full story. Now we hear some of her story and what she is going thru. As to my household, I can't wait till they move out, I love them dearly but don't want to live with them. I could tell you stories to where with your temper you would want to come and help clean house, (of people), hehe. My latest story to hopefully help them move along is My mom might have to move in with me, actually that mighht end up being true. We hope not but it might have to happen. I hope you are feeling better.

Oh Polly! Don't worry about me! I'll be ok. Really, I will. I just need to gripe about it sometimes which helps me to deal with it or else I'll explode! lol I don't wanna do that!! lol The sore is doing a lot better tonight and maybe tomorrow it'll be gone! I've been rinsing my mouth out with warm salt water quite often in hopes to get rid of it and it seems to be working.
I'm so sorry about your loss! I can not imagine going through that. They say only the strong survive that kind of thing and sometimes I wonder.
My hubby wears top dentures and will be getting lower ones soon enough. He wants to do the same thing I'm doing which is costly but hey, it keeps them in place when it comes to the bottoms. He never took his top ones out at night till I finally talked him into it because the gums needs air and blood to circulate freely. Now he does it every night, thank God.
I can't wait to see those kitties!! I bet they're adorable!! You're going to have a blast once they start growing a little bit then they'll be into everything and anything and make you laugh! Kittens are so curious and so much fun to watch!! I have a picture of my cat Music on top of my very big window when we lived in Arkansas. It's not the best picture in the world but I was in a hurry to get the shot. Just think, you'll have that to contend with in the next few weeks and months! lmbo

Oh! I'm so sorry to hear about your mouth pain.
I have been in pain before and had oral surgery.
It was no fun. I hope you are back to feeling better
now. I'm sure things will right themselves soon.

Thanks beautyqueen.... I'm still having some pain in my gums but hopefully it'll go away. I'm not sure if it's an infection still lingering or not because I told my dentist that amoxicilin isn't strong enough for me anymore but that I need something stronger and he would not listen. He will come Monday when I see him again. I think I know my body a bit more than HE does! I've been in it a little longer!!

I do understand! I seriously do understand! I'm a big time coward when it comes to dentists but I had no choice but to go because of the pain I've been having and breaking so many of them. Once I get past all of this, TRIAL, thing then it'll all be over and done with and I'll finally have teeth that won't cause me any more pain. Just getting there is the hard part.

I cannot help on this one as far as having that experience. I just wanted you to know that I am glad that you got them ground down as it is miserable when dentures do not fit right. Are your gums shrinking more than usual? More than he expected?

LOL That's ok GG, just being there for me when I need to cry or vent is enough for me!
No my gums are shrinking at a normal rate and my dentist seems to be really happy with what he saw. He said he can tell that I've been doing exactly what I've been told and is very pleased. I on the other hand was soooo happy that he saw EXACTLY where my dentures were bothering me with out having to put them back in. Whew! I would have cried a bucket had he had to put them in! He knew just where to grind them and how much. Now hopefully tomorrow I can put them in again for the blister is healing quite fast with the warm salt water rinse. I've been doing it more often than he says to and it's working!

Actually, the implants don't hurt all that much, it goes into the bone. The gums are what hurts but once it heals, it's all healed. It seems horrible to go through but really and truly, they're not. I say that because I was a "project for one dentist in Arkansas and he gave me two implants on the top of my mouth in the back and they worked out great!
I wish I could say I'm better now but I'm not. My dentist wouldn't listen to me when I told him that amoxicillin isn't strong enough for me but he will hear about it come Monday when I go see him again to get these stitches taken out. I couldn't get them out on Thursday like I was suppose to because I was so sick. He will listen to me this time or he won't treat me anymore.

Poor cats,
Like I told you, my last husband went through the same thing. The dentist had to do some grinding and readjustment. Try not to worry about what others have gone through, everybody is different. You may breeze through this now. You just never know. Hugssss

I sure hope so but some how I doubt it because my dentist says he'll have to reline them when I get the implants so I'll have this to go through yet again. UGH! I'm not looking forward to all the "rough" spots/periods that I'll have to go through but in the end, I know it'll all be worth it. Just GETTING there is the hard part.
