It all depends on WHAT Type of website you are planning to build. Wether it be a personal site, business site or a weblog .. First of all you will need someone to host your website. There are lots of frees site hosting offered all over the net and there are also paid hosting (they come in cheap packages as well). Free hosting usually offer pagebuilders that way you won't be too confused on what to do upon building your site. There are usually drag and drop widgets available too. I make websites myself here are mine www.jaylaine.vze.com (free server) and www.love-laine.org (paid) let me know if you need some more help! I'd be glad to help you out.

I have never built a website before. I do not have the skills to do so. I do not know to upkeep it either.

I don't think it's very difficult to make a website. Actually I started to make it since 1998. I have to say that it's easier than you expected. You don't need to use a lot of softwares. I think I use Frontpage, Photoshop, GIF Gear to make my personal homepage. Just have a try. I love China

Building a website requires sufficient amount of knowledge in html and if possible, css. If you're planning to code the whole website by yourself, then it will be really difficult to finish it unless you're really an expert in coding websites. There are a lot of tools that can help you build your site. An example of that is Dreamweaver. Another option is Wordpress. You'll just need a good host to provide you with that. You can also use Geocites, Angelfire, Xanga, Bravenet, etcetera. Me, my current website is built with the help of Wordpress. It really is a good blogging tool. Hope I helped you. Happy myLotting!

There are some good replies above. The tools only serve a medium to recreate our imagination and ideas. The important thing is to sketch those ideas and prepare a draft on how the website layout and structure would look. Other things to keep in mind is the theme of the website, audience, tone of the language, etc. It is not difficult to finish building the website. But it isn't finished yet, actually the development begins now. You have to maintain the website, keep it updated with latest information and such. So building the website is only half the job.
