We now have a manual lawn mower. I am talking about a push mower with the round blades no motor other than your own steam. "Uncle" saw it and of course rolled his eyes and said self propelled is the only way to go.

Yep they still make them. This one was about $100. No bag though. I have just had a baby boy. My daughter will be six very soon. No grand kids on the horizon just yet!

I think they are brilliant - save money on fuel or power and get fit at the same time because you have to put a little more efort into pushing them! A very green option. I haven't got one now as our garden is very up and down, so it would be very difficult to use, but if you have a fairly flat garden they are excellent - you do have to keep the blades sharp though.

Thanks for best response. I hope with people getting more environmentally conscious that those mowers make a big come-back!

You know I have been wanting one of those. I haven't used one though since I was about 8 but it was a fun way to mow the yard and now it would be considered the "green" thing to do to help save the planet from gas emissions and whatever else they talk about harming the eco system. I would really want one though. I think it would be a great way to get some good exercise since you have to roll it back and forth sometimes several times in one area to get all of it properly cut. Does anyone know where to get one?

LOL. We used to have one of those a long time ago. We now use a self propelled one. It is alot easier on me.

Don't have one. My grandparents had one when I was a kid. We thought is was great fun to push around the yard whether the grass needed cutting or not.

I personally am probably too lazy to use a manual lawnmower, but with the way gas prices were going up like crazy last few years I know they have grown in popularity.

We have a tiny yard, so those are perfect! My husband and I got one. You just have to make sure the blades are always sharp. That also means that you have to be careful so that kids arent around. You also have to be careful that the grass doesnt get really long - but that is true with any mower! It really is so much nicer than a gas mower! There is no buying gas or noise! It doesnt take any longer either. I never liked the electric mowers. I couldnt imagine dealing with an extension cord all of the time! A lot of people have the same response as your uncle. I think many people are just too lazy. When you actually try it, it isnt any extra work. But people love to have everything with a motor! It reminds me of 'Tim the Tool Man Taylor'!
